Does the U.S. possess the most powerful military on the planet?

May 31st, 2010 by eranio

I have been trying to conclude what country has the greatest military might and have found that many consider it to be the U.S. At the beginning I felt that the U.S. was a bit overrated until I really started looking into it. Not only do they spend the most on their military of any nation on earth, but they are in CONSTANT combat. Since WWI they have been fighting different people across the globe, its like a hobby for them. I have heard people say that Great Britain has the best trained army in the world, which I may agree with, but training does not count for much against experience. The United States military is battle hardened through constant warfare in a number of different arenas. Plus they have a base in just about every country across the world.

I dont even bring up the Nuclear arsenal because I feel that there is a balance of power there among other nations.

But another thing to consider in the United States, can you imagine trying to invade that place? They buy over half of the weapons produced in the world each year in that one Nation. Their citizenry and their love for firearms makes them the most heavily armed in the world. Maintaining any type of foreign occupation there would be nearly impossible (and they think Iraq is hard).

According to the U.S. dept of Health and Human services there are 80,000,000 yes 80 MILLION gun owners in the U.S. That is not their population that is GUN OWNERS ONLY. To put that into perspective that is more than the ENTIRE population of the United Kingdom (around 60 million).

I may be starting to agree with the notion of the United States being the most formidable military force to ever exist, can anyone dissuade me?

What weapons do the miltary have that police don't?

May 31st, 2010 by eranio

Aside from tanks, what weapons do military personel have access to that police department don’t?

By the way, nukes don’t count, because your regular soldier doesn’t have access to them, but the department of defense does, just as the chief operating department of law enforcement (department of justice) could gain access to them if needed.

As far as standard weapons go, what does the military have that police agencies (including federal agencies, such as the FBI, ATF, DEA, etc don’t have?

May 31st, 2010 by eranio

I know that one issue is ammo. Since the U.S. mass produces the 5.56, will it be hard for the military to switch to a larger bullet?

Are there any military jobs that require NO travel?

May 30th, 2010 by eranio

My soon-to-be husband is looking for a job possibly in the military somewhere, but we would like him to stay at home. He is a mechanic, and also is good with firearms, and I’m wondering if there is any line of work he could do in the Military, any specific branch, that he could sign up for where they wouldn’t send him out unless it was a huge war or something. Any suggestions? We are willing to move anywhere together in America for the most part, but we would like him to be able to come home every night (especially since it’s a new marriage) :) Thanks for your suggestions!

What markings are on the lower receiver of the military model? (Just curious)

Do Federal Agents have access to these weapons?

May 30th, 2010 by eranio

Seeing how the FBI fights terrorism in the country, do they have access to military weapons such as heavy machine guns like the M-60. Field artillery, hand grenades, grenade launchers, Apache guna, etc?

I would assume they have ACCESS to it if needed, but don’t use it on a regular basis due to putting innocent lives at risk.

Same question can be asked for other federal agencies, such as the DEA or ATF

What is your opinion about military fired brass ?

May 29th, 2010 by eranio

The Department of Defense has issued a directive that all expended military brass (fired cases) be shredded and sold for scrap material – -rather than resold by Government Liquidators LLC to the civilian market for remanufacture.

By stopping the resale of expended military ammunition to remanufacturers, they have put a stranglehold on the nation’s ammunition supply.

There is a severe shortage of ammunition available for sale to the public across the country, causing problems for shooters, hunters, and reloaders everywhere.

The use of remanufactured ammunition is a huge asset to law enforcement agencies across the country. With this market gone, law enforcement will no longer be able to purchase inexpensive reloaded ammunition.

One major supplier been practically put out of business by this directive that all expended military brass be shredded. His current contracts have been canceled – he is notifying his customers across the country, that he can no longer supply their ammunition needs.

In these harsh economic times – it seems cold and calculating – that the Obama administration has no compunction against ruining an industry that employs thousands of American citizens in the remanufacturing of sporting and military ammunition. This has not kept jobs – nor added jobs – but took MORE jobs away .. from an already failing economy.

This move made by the Obama administration is nothing but a back-door strike against firearms ownership in this country–if shooters can’t buy ammunition – the guns are little better than steel clubs–and this is obviously the intent.

Wouldn’t this be considered a serious attack against the Second Amendment rights of the American citizenry ?

Guns have been a way of life for many people – for many years. Our forefathers fought for so many of our rights .. and to me, it feels like our lives have been put in a vice that is getting tighter & tighter .. and more and more "rights" are being taken away from us. Some of these rights are being taken away right-before-our-eyes … and many other rights are silently taken away through-the-back-door without us even knowing.

What is your opinion. Only sensible comments .. please.
I’m from Texas .. and the big stores do not have a good supply of ammunition. All the selling clerks knows about this article. Some ammo is not found anywhere .. check out this link.

Why doesn't the US military ditch their assault rifles and pick up a donkey jawbone? Isn't it a better weapon?

May 29th, 2010 by eranio

Judges 15:15 And he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand, and took it, and slew a THOUSAND MEN therewith.

Samson managed to kill a thousand people in one battle with a single jawbone! Wouldn’t the US military be a far more effective killing machine if it followed the Bible and switched up their weapons for donkey jawbones?

Right Way of Selecting Firearm Holster

May 29th, 2010 by eranio

Holsters are generally designed to offer protection to the handgun, safe retention, and ready access. It is important to choose the right balance, commonly in the defensive weapon holster case, where failure to have a quick access of the weapon, or destroy or loss of the weapon due to inadequate retention or protection could result in the owners death or serious injury.
Holsters are generally attached to a person’s belt or waistband, or clipped to another item of clothing. Some holsters, such as ankle holsters, have included support. Other holsters may fit inside a pocket, to add stability and protection to the handgun, keeping it more reliably protected and accessible than if it were in the pocket alone.
When choosing a holster for a firearm like these ones http://www.zahal.org/groups/fobus-holsters or any other, these are aspects of interest:

Safety – a admirably created holster will gives protection to the weapon during insertion into or taking away from the holster or while being carried that will:  prevent accidental trigger movement; prevent unwanted disengagement of safety mechnism; stop the forward or backward hammer movement of the gun. The safety features of a holster extremely require that the holster be engineered and designed for each specific manufacture and model of handgun.
Retention – a holster created with custody in mind will help avoid a gun from being taken away from the holster by everyone other than the user. Current holsters for duty have several retention devices to this end. Frequently, retentive holsters are custom designed for a special model of gun.
Concealment – it is often desirable not to inform other person of one’s being armed. A cautiously designed and worn holster can make a gun virtually invisible. Almost all cover up holster are designed to be worn with a covering garment that is part of the user’s garment everyday.
Comfort – capacity to wear a gun for quite a period without too much unease.
Finish – a convincingly designed holster must not damage a pistol or excessively abrade its finish.
Draw ease – practical shooting holsters allow a gun to be presented quickly, but ease of drawing is mostly compromised in concealed carry
Durability – capability to survive abuse and long-term usage without equipment failure or impaired performance.
Ease of reholster – a stiffholster will allow a gun to be returned to it single handed, while a elastic one may collapse right after the drawing of the gun, requiring the use of both hands to reholster.
Adjustability – a holster that provides for the adjustment of gun can and position can aid in concealment and comfort at the same time.
Price – modern holsters for a $500 handgun can cost $20 to $200. Several wearers required several holster kinds per gun, while others may favor a generic holster for bearing of multiple types of gun
