Can the US launch nuclear weapons without the president? What if the "football" is destroyed are missing?

Also, if the president decides to launch all nuclear weapons just because he or she is having a bad day, does the military have to launch?

What Branch of the Military should I join, and what MOS?

November 30th, 2010 by eranio

I’m 16, and I want to join the military. I’m very competitive, have a high SAT (around 2000 on the 2400 scale), and am in pretty good shape. I’m in NJROTC at my high school, and scored a 269 (out of 300) on my first PFT of the year, though that score is probably a bit off b/c I had mono at the time. I’m on my unit’s PT Team, Orienteering Team, and Air Rifle Team. I want to be in a combat arms MOS, but whether I’m enlisted or a commissioned officer doesn’t really matter. Any thoughts?
My grades are decent, but not great. My current GPA is 3.29. Probably not good enought to get into a service academy, but you never no…it’s their job to say "no", not mine.
And I’m male…
In response to Jeff M, I mostly like to be outside. I love things like orienteering, camping, running, playing sports, and competing at just about anything. My number one goal on a PFT (or anything else like that) is to be better than everyone else, period.
As for the PFT requirements, I did 71 push-ups in two minutes, 78 sit-ups in two minutes, and ran the 1.5 mile run (short run, I know) in 12:03. At the time I had mono, so I wasn’t really exercising regularly, although I am now. I’ve got another one coming up in April. Hope that helps, and thanks for the advice.
And as for branches, I’m thinking Army or Marine Corps, no Navy or Air Force. I’m also thinking combat arms, if that’s specific enough.

Getting a waiver to return to the military?

November 30th, 2010 by eranio

I want to return to the military after I received my Bachelors degree. I plan to be an officer. I was enlisted in the Army, but now would like to go to Navy OCS or Coast Guard OCS. I was discharge because I had a condition that existed prior to service. I was not able to fully qualify on my rifle. I plan to go towards the Navy or Coast Guard because they are not much battle orientated. The only thing stopping me is the recruiter. For me to get back into the military, I would need to get a waiver. Unfortunately, recruiters are not willing to go through the effort to get a waiver for me since there are many other recruits out there that do not require a waiver. Does anybody have any suggestions or tips for me to get a recruiter to get off his ass and not be lazy to get a waiver? I thank you very much everyone who helps me out with this.

Was Clinton a 21st century version of Adolph Hitler?

November 30th, 2010 by eranio

Top 10 Reasons the Clinton Administration Wasn’t So Hot on Civil Liberties Issues
From Tom Head,
Your Guide to Civil Liberties.
FREE Newsletter. Sign Up Now!
Civil libertarians concerned about the Bush administration sometimes pine for the Clinton years. What usually gets lost in the shuffle is the fact that the Clinton administration was almost as oppressive–and that was during peacetime.
1. Clintonus Rex
Everyone likes to talk about the Bush administration’s executive power grab under the auspices of the unitary executive theory, but not too many people remember President Clinton’s own attempt to increase the power of the presidency at the expense of civil liberties safeguards.
2. Big Bubba is Watching
When President Bush admitted to violating the Federal Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) of 1978 with his secret wiretapping program, critics suggested that it was a blatant and unprecedented act of executive gall. Blatant, yes. Unprecedented, no. The Clinton administration violated FISA during its warrantless search of accused spy Aldrich Ames, and (in the pre-Bush years) was described by ACLU legislative director Laura Murphy as "the most wiretap-friendly administration in history."
3. Torture to Go
Civil libertarians are up in arms over the Bush administration’s practice of extraordinary rendition, in which the United States outsources its interrogation of international terrorism suspects to countries that practice torture. And we certainly should be–but it was the Clinton administration that pioneered this despicable practice.
4. BATF in the Belfry
No domestic law enforcement group inspired more civil liberties concerns during the 1990s than the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (BATF), aka the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATFE), which sometimes dealt with domestic terrorism on a "shoot first, ask questions later" basis. Although the group has since been reformed, it still strikes fear in the hearts of gun rights activists everywhere–and its power, and abuses of power, peaked during the Clinton years.
5. Bowdlerizing the Internet
You think the FCC’s anti-indecency crusade is bad? Well, if Janet Jackson had flashed her nipple jewelry online, it could have meant a two-year prison sentence. Such was life under the Communications Decency Act, which promised to make the Internet G-rated at all costs. Democrats blame it all on the Republican Congress, but it was the president who chose to defend the awful anti-indecency provisions all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court (which mercifully struck them down).
6. "Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell"
Lesbian and gay activists didn’t ask much from President Clinton when they voted for him in November 1992. They knew better than to expect marriage rights, or even a civil unions policy. But what President Clinton promised was one thing he could do without asking Congress: Strike down the ban on gays in the military. He changed his mind after the election–choosing to restrict the way gay soldiers are investigated, but leave the ban intact. It remains in place to this day.
7. Uncle Sam’s Offering Plate
Church-state separationists are understandably concerned about the White House Office for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, which has put billions into the pockets of religious organizations–in open defiance of the First Amendment’s establishment clause. But who signed the legislation that created the faith-based initiative program in the first place? President Bill Clinton, as part of the 1996 welfare reform bill.
8. Throwing the Book at Immigrants
President Reagan granted amnesty to 3 million undocumented immigrants (so-called "illegal aliens"). President George W. Bush said that mass deportation of immigrants is not a humane option. But President Clinton signed a 1996 bill making life more difficult for undocumented immigrants, while at the same time choosing to make it possible for millions more to enter the country and face horrific exploitation at the hands of U.S. corporations.
9. Defending the Sanctity of Marriage, Between Cigars
It’s horrible how our conservative president has politicized the issue of same-sex marriage. Know what’s even more horrible? He’s only following his liberal predecessor’s example. When he happily signed the Defense of Marriage Act of 1996, President Clinton shattered the hopes of countless lesbian and gay couples who had been inspired by the possibility of marriage rights in Hawaii–and made gay marriage a viable "culture war" issue to be exploited by politicians for years to come.
10. The Prisoner’s Dilemma
The "tough on crime" stance of President Bill Clinton reinstated the federal death penalty, limited appeals (resulting in the execution of an untold number of innocent death row inmates), and made it possible for mentally handicapped 12-year-olds to face life in prison without parole. In this instance, as in so many others, it’s hard to imagine how a conservative Republican could have done any worse.
Clinton was responsible for the 3500 deaths of 9/11. If he wouldn’t have been preoccupied and taken care of business it never would have happened.

Basically if your ACR or SCAR runs out of ammo and you pull out the SPAS 12 its not camo. Why does the military have a dumb rule like that?

What do you think our government should do in this case?

November 29th, 2010 by eranio

Agent Held at Gunpoint by Mexican Military
8-3-08 A Tucson Sector Border Patrol agent was held at gunpoint by the Mexican military last night south of Ajo. Mexican military personnel crossed over the border and pointed rifles at him. Backup units arrived from the Ajo Border Patrol station, and the Mexican military personnel eventually returned to Mexico. Unfortunately, this sort of behavior by Mexican military personnel has been going on for years. They are never held accountable, and the United States government will undoubtedly brush this off as another case of "Oh well, they didn’t know they were in the United States."

Quasi military training camps for right wing teens & young adults?

November 28th, 2010 by eranio

My friend tells me such places exist where teens train with 22 rifles and pistols with high capacity magazines in combat drills and other things you might find in the Army’s basic training. As they get bigger and stronger, they "graduate" to more realistic training using combat rifles, etc.
They have no intention of joining the army. They plan to defend themselves against "liberals" and other threats to their freedom
Could this be at least partially why the news says ammo sales are way up with no end in sight. To me it sounds like they are becoming their own version of the Taliban.
Do such places exist? Are there just a few nuts? Is it bigger? Do you think the government is aware of what these people are up to? They claim to love America but all I can see is they are traveling down the road of armed insurgents.
What can we do to keep this sort of fringe in check?

What is the name of this law enforcement massacre?

November 28th, 2010 by eranio

A cop used his job title to enter peoples home and k*lled them with either grenade’s or firearms which they had collected.

I can’t think of the name of this killing spree and as I remember I did read that over wiki or something alike but I just can’t find the name of the massacre. Reason being I am collecting stories of massacres that the Military or any kind of law enforcement had part in .

I’m not mysteriously going to end up missing am i from asking this question?

Colt AR-15A2 that is marked 223 on the lower rec, barrel is marked 556 1 in 7 what is it chambered for?

November 28th, 2010 by eranio

This rifle is a law enforcement model so I’m now sure what it’s truely chambered for. I’m leaning toward 5.56 due to the barrel markings but would like to be sure as it’s not healthy to fire Military 5.56 in a .223 chambered weapon for any length of time.

what is the best sniper rifle to use in call of duty MW2?

November 27th, 2010 by eranio

my friend says if you’re a "skilled" player you use the Intervention because it’s bolt action and takes longer to reload, therefore giving you less time to make another shot. I say even if you are "skilled" you should use a better gun such as the WA2000 or the Barrett 50 cal.
