Anyone know of any good boarding or military schools that offer scholorships anywhere in the US?

February 20th, 2010 by eranio

I have a friend who has a 12 yr old son who in in 5th grade, has no respect for authority, and is failing his classes as of yesterday’s progress report. His parents nor teachers know what to do with him anymore so I’m thinking maybe he needs to be taken out of his environment where 14 are selling, drugs, toting guns & getting pregnant. Any info on a good boarding or military school would be great…Thanks

my gosh… I knew it could be rough in the US, but this sounds more like a war zone from a science fiction movie! Just two things:

    1) be careful of thinking of boarding school like this… he may see it as a form of punishment (which perhaps he needs but this should NOT be the focus)… as if its done like this it could make it worse!!! You will need to help her structure it to her son that… that he will be explained over and over, that he will be going for following POSITIVE reasons:

    - things like gaining independence, becoming more discipline, being challenged, getting organised, becoming more determined, becoming fit, taking part, being part of a team, making new friends, growing as a person, getting his studies going.

He will see still it as punishment… but you and her must continually say that is not this at all… but to focus on what he will GET from boarding.

    2) Second: yes – try these links…look for military schools… but also look for and check for local / state schools which have a more disciplined apprach:

Oh and please don’t mail me and say how we all look like Chocolate Bars in our brown and beige uniforms (athough we all normally quite sweet – ; ) … and NO its NOT a girls military school either… lol … athough we have tones of rules, and they are quite strict we get on fine… Chantal
