Anyone Recall during Katrina Aftermath, national guard wnet around demanding peoples personal firearms?

March 7th, 2010 by eranio

So much for the Right to Bear Arms, right?

What ever happened to this law, regulation, travesty is more the bets word to use.

In one single action, what politicians telling military to collect all personal registered weapons did was makethe area more unsafe for those that believe in the 2nd ammendment to protect their families..
And they gave the criminals the upper hand.

Anyone remember if this loophole was altered?

Or in the event of another major disaster, will the national guard go around again and demand personl weapons?
They will have toshoot me before I give up mine!
Just went to the NRA and found this article.

Interesting point. I love the Constitution too. But lets not be too hasty. Lets vote out the neocons who are eroding our constitution first. That would be an appropriate course of action.

    Nope, sure don’t

Yes, that’s right and as far as the loophole being closed, no. But, they still run around down there shooting each other up we just don’t hear alot about it unless it’s a cop shooting a civilian. At least someone is bearing arms.

  4. CARTER THE GREAT

it appears that some people were busy stealing firearms during the tradgedy.that is all the national guard wanted to confirm.

This was done by the New Orlean’s police superintendent, not the national guard.

Also in your article it would appear that the states have enacted these laws; which therefore are not controlled by the national guard.

Moreover, the article you posted includes in it, that 13 states have taken action against this. In fact, National the government took steps to end this, lead by republicans.

Evidently it was a loophole, that had never been tested and now it is being fixed. Your opposition appears to come a little late.

Ok For All Of You That Just Heard A Few Things On This Subject Mainly What The NrA Wanted To Tell Don’t Get Me Wrong I’m A Supporter But Here’s The Real Scoop! The State Asked Everyone Left In The City To Turn Them In Because Alot Of People Asking For Help Was Getting Shot And Killed! Plus There Was Also A Shooting At The SuperDome. The City Asked Not The Military And No One Was Told To Give Them Up! The First Plea Came From The States Gov. Hell I Ran Into More Problems From The Cops City Parish And Freakin railroad cops. more so city and railroad! again this was not a thing that the military was doing but the city and state!

At the time decent people most needed their guns to defend themselves the government, at the direction of liberal Democrats, took every gun they could find away from people who were trying to protect their homes and their lives. When you vote remember that Democrats do not respect your real rights and they go around blaming Bush for things Bush never did. If they come to my home and demand my guns they will find that I believe in my rights and will fight for them.

I would never hand over anything like that. But then little that I have is registered.

yes, get used to it ,they are taking your guns to keep you safe?
it was a national litmus test and we failed as a nation…..as far as the law, it is only valid if we as a country, validate it by using it….they are also trying to disarm veterans through physciatric diagnosis, the people that are coming back from iraq will probably not even be able to own a weapon, because of the high probability of real and imaginary mental conditions, diagnosed by governmeny doctors…get ready!
do your research, get involved , if not involved at least be able to have a discussion about what is happening to inform other people…

  10. Cookies, anyone?

    So much for Posse Comitatus:

NPSD 51 "…President Bush has signed a directive granting extraordinary powers to the office of the president in the event of a declared national emergency, apparently without congressional approval or oversight…
It was issued with the dual designation of NSPD-51, as a National Security Presidential Directive, and HSPD-20, as a Homeland Security Presidential Directive.

The directive establishes under the office of the president a new national continuity coordinator whose job is to make plans for "National Essential Functions" of all federal, state, local, territorial and tribal governments, as well as private sector organizations to continue functioning under the president’s directives in the event of a national emergency.

"Catastrophic emergency" is loosely defined as "any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government functions."
    ______________________________…

"……Section 1076 of the John Warner Defense Appropriation Act for Fiscal Year 2007 grants the president the right to commandeer federal troops or state National Guard to use them domestically. The language of that legislation allows the president to use federal troops or the National Guard in federal service in a wide range of emergencies, including natural disasters, epidemics or other public health emergencies, terrorist attacks, insurrections, or domestic violence, including conspiracies to commit domestic violence….."

NSPD-51 and HSPD-20 make no specific reference to the National Security Act under U.S.C. Title 50 or the requirement of that act that the president bring a declaration of a national emergency to Congress immediately and publish the declaration in the Federal Register.
