Because of WWII, the Japanese military are not allowed to send their soldiers overseas to other countries. Are they allowed to arm their soldiers and police with real guns?

Yes. The policemen are just about the only people in Japan who can legally walk around with guns.

Most policemen don’t carry armed weapons, but some divisions in the police force do (narcotics, for example).

yes-but guns are completely illegal in japan and the jail sentences for them are really harsh. so i geuss the police dont need them as much as they do over here.

Of course they do. They even build their own fighters and frigates, and there’s talks about amending the Constitution to remove that limitation.

As I recall toy guns. But not dart guns only water pistols.
Actually I vaguely recall reading that the Japanese police are similar to the police in England. The majority do not carry a gun, certain select units do carry hand guns….such as homicide detectives and anti-terrorist agents and when authorized any number of policemen, detectives and other law enforcement officers can be authorized and issued pistols or automatic weapons. This is very rare, done on a limited basis and for a very limit time.
There isn’t any Japanese military as in the US. They, per their constitution, have the Japanese Defense Force to provide defense of their island nation .
That’s about all I can recall from the article I read.
