Are there any semi-auto rifles out there with the reliability and accuracy of a bolt-action Remington 700?

Yes there are semi-auto rifle that rival a Rem 700. Springfield Armory M1A, Knight SR-25, other AR-10 and AR-15 rifles. As mentioned the Browning BAR is nice.

What military rifles can you not buy? Other than the hassle of the Form 4 transfer.

Browning Automatic Rifles (really semi-automatic) are ultra reliable. Properly cleaned & lubed most semi-autos are extremely reliable however, any semi-auto is going to be less forgiving of poor maintenance than a bolt action.

Browning BAR hands down……….mine shoots as good as any bolt gun

That depends on what kind of groups you expect out a rem700. You can shoot corelocks and powerpoints out of a 700 and you may not be able to shoot any better than 2" groups at 100. Or do a few simple stock modifications and shoot premuim ammo and get under 1′.
So it’s hard to say if you’re going to be satisfied with what a semi-auto gives you in terms of accuracy.

The browning is probably the most reliable of the semi-auto group if you happen to neglect it a little. Accuracy…again it’s all over the place. It depends on the ammo you use. The cheap stuff should definatly get under 3" at 100 which is in reality more than plenty for most big game needs out to 200 yards.

Sure- It’s the Browning. The most dependable automatic that is mass produced in the world. It’s accuracy is comparable to any mass produced bolt action- It wont be a half inch difference in the groups at 100 yards- no deer in the world will ever notice the difference- but if you are talking bench rest target shooting accuracy, the bolts will edge them out.
