Most military engineering jobs are farmed out to private industry. The military only gets directly involved in field testing the new weapons systems once the private companies have done all the research and development.

If you really have an interest in this field, you need to go to college and get yourself an engineering degree. Then, if you can’t get hired by a company that’s doing the research you want to be involved in, at least you can come into the military as an Officer instead of a grunt.
