Best military surplus rifles for under $200? Cant be hard 2 find?
I want one that is accurate, reliable and easy to find at almost any gunshop. Must be under 0 because im on a low budget. It can be sporterized or in it’s original military configuration. And the ammo must be under for 20 rounds.

Take a look at a Mosin Nagant. They’re pretty common, typically run around $100 or so, and the ammo is fairly cheap if you get military surplus (which is almost always corrosively primed) or merely reasonable if you get commercial ammunition ($.65 for budget ammo). The only down side is they kick like a mule and at almost 9lbs they’re heavy.
The only other option I can think of would be a SKS. However depending on the make and model that might not be under $300.
First off, I wouldn’t buy anything without a good bore. Buy the best you can.
I can think of 3 you should be looking for
1. Mauser – either a model 48 or 24/47 both yugoslavian. I think the going rates for the 48 are $150. The model 24 goes for less than that.
And those prices are darn nice condition by the way.
2. British Enfields go for a little more money. There are a number of different models on them. They are a nice rifle. I have preference to the Mauser though but that’s my opinion.
3. The Swiss Model 31 is within your budget. Don’t let the stocks fool you (they sat the butt stocks in the snow they are pretty rough). They used non-corrosive ammo and they took their rifles home withthem for cleaning. They are typically the most accurate of the surplus rifles but the ammo is somewhat hard to find.
You can also look at the Russian Mosins for 100-130 dollars (saw one at Cabelas priced at $400 made me laugh so hard I about peed myself). I’d prefer the Mauser to that especially if you hunted. The Mosin safety is the biggest piece of junk there is.

Mosin safety? What? You mean the trigger? My mosin doesn’t have a safety. Its not the most accurate rifle I own, but its more than accurate at 100 yards to drop a deer where it stands. It could be me though, it was the Russian sniper rifle of WW2. That should say something about reliability and function. Last year I got mine and 80 rounds of SP for under $200.
I like the Yugo Mausers
They can be upgraded later fairly easily and ammo is not too expensive
Swiss ammo is way expensive but the guns are as accurate as you will find
Enfield 2As ban be easily found for less than $200 and are in easily found 7.62×51
And all Mosins have safeties
It’s that round knob at the back of the receiver
They are cheap and the ammo is inexpensive but they are not the best milsurp out there
Buy the 2A Ishapore Enfield. When Obama bans the imported ammo next year, the 308 will be the cheaper option.
