can civilian contractors buy or carry firearms in afghanistan?

im shortly to depart for the front line in afghanistan and as an ex military type, could i either carry or purchase (for protection) a personal weapon when i am in theatre?
by the way im ex-UK armed forces , I left less than one year ago…

    If you will be working in a military capacity as a mercenary for Blackwater / Xe or some similar mercenary outfit, and your job involves security or actually carrying out military duties as those outfits often do, it would certainly seem likely that you’ll be issued weapons.

    NO… you would need a D.O.D. permit (if working for the US Government as a security contractor); or an Afghan permit (that you wont get) if you have nothing to do with the US Army.
