I’m leaving for basic soon, and I wanna purchase my first firearm after. Is this possible and if so what are the stipulations? Would I have to keep my firearm in their armory…etc?

Yes you can..However…there maybe certain procedures you will have to follow…Depending on the state…and if you live a military barrack or off-post…Regardless you have to follow the state laws and procedures for buying pistols, rifles, and shotguns…Normally, If you live in the barracks…You’ll have to store your weapon in your unit’s armory or arms room…If you live on post…Govt. Quarters or the barracks..You’ll first have to register the fire arm with the provost marshal’s office…If you go to them first..they will give you all the info …Off post…you go by the state laws…Overseas…It depends on the Country…Germany banned US soldiers from owning Semi-Auto rifles and pistols…In Japan, Shotguns were fine through a shooting club…But no pistols or semi autos…
ost posts have a Rod and Gun Club…They are help you on this…plus give you a place to shoot and hunt…..Take Care Good Luck
PS…Leave your weapon at home..Get it later…A work around for the Arms room…IF when you get to your permanent unit..If you trust one of your NCO’s…Ask them if you can keep your weapon at his house…but only if you trust the person…If you go over seas…Better to leave it at home..

Yes you can buy a gun, if you live on base/post you’ll have to keep it in the armory.

I bought many guns during my 23 year military career. As long as you are legally able to do so otherwise and meet the states requirement.
You would not be able to keep the weapon in military quarters. It would have to be secured in the Armory.

You will not be able to purchase your first weapon until you get to your first duty station after tech school and yes; you will have to register it on base and store in their armory if you are living in the barracks or dorms and check it out when wanting to take it somewhere and hunt or target shoot with it. You will also have to meet whatever state requirements there are for gun ownership that the base is in as well before registering your weapon on base. They randomly do shakedown inspections and besides looking for drugs they also look for weapons and confiscate them and the charges for a firearm in the dorm, unregistered are pretty severe.

Sure but why? The army are going to pay you to use their guns and those are far more fun than anything you can buy.
