Can you ever imagine not being able to Hunt, Shoot, or being able to Protect and Defend yourself or others?

March 30th, 2011 by eranio

Because some Leader of the Executive Branch signed an Executive Order to ban all Firearms except fo the ones that the Police, and the Military use by effectively doing away with the 2nd Amendment by issuing an Executive Order.*

Is legal to fire a gun on my property?

March 23rd, 2011 by eranio

I have a .410 shotgun and want to start shooting it without going to a range, but it has come to me that it might be illegal to do so, and I just want to be sure. I know differen’t counties have different rules on this and I can’t find the info for my county anywhere. I live in Sarasota county Florida, live outside the city limits, have 30 acres, know how to handle firearms safely (ex military). Is it ok for me to shoot on my property?

How should i fix this?

March 11th, 2011 by eranio

this is only a ROUGH draft. i know it needs a lot of help. does anyone have any good ideas on how to help me?
What is a strength of America? Everyone has their options on what they think is a strength or a weakness. In my point of view the military is one of the biggest strengths America has.
The military has been around for a tremendously long time. Before 1972 conscription (also known as drafting) was used during war and during the peace. After 1972 the military is made up of volunteers willing to fight for there country. All these volunteers make the American military one of the largest militaries in the world.
First, the military has the best technology. This includes all the firearms, artillery, ammunition, armor, ground vehicles, aircraft, robots, and communications. All these technologies make it easier, and safer for the volunteers fighting in the war to come back home safely. Second, the training for a military the size we have is superior. The service members are physically, technically and psychologically trained. Depending on which branch of the military the service member may have to go on for more training. Third, after a member of the military retires from the military this person can now go the college for free, they also now have health benefits. Our military is one of the best taken care of on and off the military bass.
Serving in the military is no longer a drafting thing its pure voluntary. Many of families have lost loved ones, but its nothing to grief over. Its an honorary dead. Think of all the men and women risking their lives to keep America free and safe.

How big are the world's militaries?

March 7th, 2011 by eranio

More specifically, how many small arms does each country have in its armories? I suppose that information would be protected for security, but the data must be recorded in some sort of database (can’t have lost firearms, now, can we?). If someone could find a link for me, that would absolutely fantastical. I’ve heard the UN say Europe has 16 million military small arms. They must have gotten that number from somewhere, right?
Jordan’s answer is wrong. This answer is correct, thanks to a link from Google Answers:

It’s EXACTLY what I was looking for. Thank you anyway for your concern.

Do conservatives really think owning a gun is going to stop a totalitarian government?

March 3rd, 2011 by eranio

Have as many high-powered firearms as you want. If a compliant military comes for you, you better believe there are going to send more than 1 guy to your front door. How effective is your AR15 against an Apache Helicopter? The key is what will the military do when an authoritarian government takes hold. Because, honestly, your pistols or semi-automatic rifles wouldn’t stop any military force for long. They don’t quit after you shoot one guy.
If every Jew in Germany answered the knock on door with a gun, the SS would have stopped knocking.

exactly, they wouldnt knowck, they would just shoot first. Its not Hitler would say "gosh, those Jews have some guns…ah forget it, lets just have American style freedom instead."

Is the the growing use of body armor in today's militaries a long-term threat to democracy and human liberty?

February 27th, 2011 by eranio

In an eerie parallel to developments in the seventh century A.D., we are seeing a proliferation of increasingly effective body armor among today’s military forces (as well as police forces.)
It is interesting to note that a thousand years of increasing social regimentation (Middle Ages,
knights owning serfs, state/church one and the same, divine right of kings ect.) only began to end with the introduction of gunpowder weapons making the heavily armored knights suddenly vulnerable to armed peasants.
Note that during the high point of the rise of democracy in the West (18th-19th centuries) body armor was practically non-existent. This was an era when armed civilians could engage professional military forces on nearly equal terms (think Lexington/Concord, ect.) As compared to other historical periods, the last 300 years has been an inconvenient time for tyrants, necessitating massive citizen disarmament to make it work as a general rule – and these regimes tend to be unstable in most cases (perhaps due to the infusion of modern, egalitarian attitudes over the last 300 years – "invincible god-king and his men" thinking is no longer to be found among civilian populations, no matter how compliant they appear to be?)
Armor is, and always has been, a friend of the elite. Firearms have tended to be their nemesis (consider the Samurai of Japan, they preferred armor and swords – which require a lifetime of training to use effectively, unlike guns – to dominate the common herd with. And dominate them they did!) AND notice how governments universally tend to hate and fear the idea of firearms in the hands of the general population… regulating who gets their hands on firearms has been an obsession of governments for 300 years now. (Gee, I wonder why..?)
Now we are in a time where increasingly effective body armor may make soldiers/police/private paramilitary goons impervious to small arms within the next 50 years. Once again, we will have a situation where governments (or petty crime bosses/private warlords with enough money to do so) will have armies of invincible enforcers – just as it was in the Middle Ages. And we can be sure that the weapons needed to defeat such armor (directed energy weapons, or heavy artillery/rockets maybe?) will be unavailable to the public not due to "gun control", but rather because only governments/paramilitary forces can afford them or have the resources to maintain them. And over time , I fear we might see a return of that "The King and His Men are God’s Ordained Proxies" mentality take hold among commoners – thus ending the West’s great experiment with liberty!
So – does the return of effective body armor threaten to push mankind into a new Dark Age? Based on history, I fear the answer is – Yes. What do you all think?

What do you think about the safety problems that come with the freedom of American firearm ownership?

February 27th, 2011 by eranio

Guns technically have not much other purpose than to hunt or to harm people (out of self-defense or out of intent to physically harm). But in reality its just a tool. Guns don’t kill people, people kill people. A knife and a car could do the same thing. It might be a really redundant tool since it has no actual real life (non-violent) application besides hunting. But I still believe that guns should be legalized. Definitely not military grade small arms such as assault rifles or explosives or incendiary rounds, that should be left to the military and law enforcement.

But however I think the American gun owning populace, should really tone down the fanaticism on the type or caliber of guns they own. They don’t need an automatic AK or 50. Cal Barrett or a Silenced UZI to go hunting deer or practice shooting or home defense. That’s absolutely absurd, that’s just the machismo of the American gun-owning man, proving they have the bigger gun.

Guns are tools, and their purpose is to even the playing field. Where a 50 (5ft) kg woman can be on even terms with a 140 (6’5ft) kg criminal. I’m saying that everyone should have guns, but everyone in the right mind should have the option to have one. It’s only the stupidity and violent people in a community that can make those who guns look bad.

I’m absolutely for banning explosives (unless it’s useful in a required field), fully automatic and silenced weapons to general public but I still think people should have rights to firearm ownership and reduce the firearms allowed to no more that 3 per person. I myself own a Sig Sauer P226 40. which I shoot and the range and clean regularly. But I will never understand the kind of person that owns a 100 round AK47 and goes around blowing up propane tanks or uses a Barrett 50. Cal to hunt deer. You don’t need a chainsaw to cut your sandwich or taking a taxi to get somewhere a block away. Thanks just irresponsible and simply overdoing it. Like I said, guns are merely a tool for defense or hunting (maybe competitive marksmanship, but that doesn’t have any real day to day life value).

Why is it when a politician wants to ban 1 kind of firearm, they try to sneak other kinds in with the ban?

February 24th, 2011 by eranio

For example, when the state of New Jersey wanted to ban the .50 BMG (pretty much a military caliber) to cut down on gun violence…also tried to slip in blackpowder muzzleloading firearms. NJ tried to ban them based on caliber size, when, in fact, blackpowder muzzleloading firearms of any caliber are not used to commit crimes. In addition, the .50 BMG had never been used in the state of New Jersey to commit any type of crime ? Honest mistake, or deliberate attempt to pull the wool over our eyes ?

I really want to know what you guys think of this situation, can it be done?

February 23rd, 2011 by eranio

I work as a gunsmith, and the commute to work is down right awful. The job isn’t paying me too well to commute, so i was wondering what else kind of jobs i can get into if i got gunsmith experience? Will i be able to work for an armory in the military even though i’m not in a branch of any kind? Can i work on firearms from law enforcement, even though i’m not an officer? What kind of jobs can i get into? gunsmith skills also require having knowledge on working with machines such as mills and lathes.

Obama banning firearms? 2nd Ammendment, now no ammenedment…right to bear arms…?

February 22nd, 2011 by eranio

I’m sure many people have been touchin on this subject as of late and recent times. But I still want to bring it up. I am against such law, I am from Texas of course, and I’ve always been able to go anywhere with my rifle for one, and my dad with his pistol and just shoot for fun. With a proper permit, we can carry a concealed handgun. I believe banning will not solve any issues, it will bing another civil war, and slowly Obama will pick our country apart by tearing out every ammendment that we have ever loved and cared about that has kept this country in tact since 1776. There is horrible crime don’t you doubt. But someone is going to get a hold of a weapon, or someone is going to murder in a different way…either way it’s not going to be any better if not worst. I am in the military as well, so I was always taught to "love" my weapon and never leave it, I sure as hell am not going to have someone pry it from my hands when I am home in Texas. How do you protect your family when ya really need too? Crap happens…and you can no longer protect your family…opinions anyone?

Do you think if any race is 'superior,' it's the Chinese?

February 20th, 2011 by eranio

China is the world’s oldest continuous civilization, in existence for more than four thousand years. In its golden age it discovered matches 700 years before Westerners, invented gunpowder, firearms, rockets, and grenades, developed the first paper from the bark of trees and the first form of wood block printing, sent ships to explore as far as South Africa…And the list goes on and on. Now it’s the world’s largest consumer with the world’s largest military (2 million), the first non-Western nuclear power, and the government wants to turn 100 universities into world class research centers, and the majority opinion is that it will be a superpower within our own lifetimes…What makes the Chinese so ahead of everyone else?
I’m not Chinese, I’m not racist…I’m just wondering.

Why do citizens do what the government won't.?

February 20th, 2011 by eranio

This is only the start.

The Cochise County Militia is planning another event starting Fourth of July weekend to monitor the U.S.-Mexico border for illegal immigrants.

Orientation will take place on July 3 starting at 1 p.m. The first day of work will be July 4. Operations will be held on a 24-hour day, seven days a week, for the month of July.
People can stay for a weekend, a week or a month,” Bill Davis, who founded the militia, told the Herald/Review during a recent interview. “Whatever they want.”

Efforts will be focused in Cochise County within 10 miles of the border. Each participant will work an eight-hour post with one other person. At least one person per team will have a handgun, a walkie-talkie and a cell phone.
“If there is a demand for it, I will go to Flagstaff. But right now we are concentrating close to the border. They’ve got to cross the border here so they can get to Oregon and Utah, where they welcome them with open arms,” Davis said.

Also, the group is forming a private military company, which can be considered paramilitary, but not vigilante or mercenary. It will not charge money for its work, but will accept donations.
“We do provide peace of mind for large-acreage border landowners, ranchers, retirees and vacationing ranchers, by maintaining security for their livestock, homes and possessions,” Davis states in a message to membership.
“We are not mercenaries, as we do not charge a fee for our services. We do not make up our own laws or hang people from Cottonwood trees, therefore, we are not vigilantes,” he adds.

The vast majority of members are either active or retired law enforcement, or active or retired military. The group has never had a firearms accident or fired a shot offensively in 10 years.

“While we prefer combat veterans, all are invited to fill all positions,” Davis stated in another e-mail to members. “There is no pay involved. In fact, we spend a lot out of our pockets to keep going in this immigration battle.”
The militia has been getting many new recruits as a result of recent coverage on television and radio, including an interview Davis did on the Alan Colmes talk show.

For more information about the Cochise County Militia, send an e-mail to bdavis@cochisecountymilitia.org.

Under what circumstances can you carry a firearm out into public?

February 19th, 2011 by eranio

The public display of firearms out in California are diminishing quickly, and I’ve come to notice that there still people (not police officers) who carry them in shoulder holsters under their jackets.

I’ve went to a local gun range and noticed that one of the employees (who are not firearm instructors) was holstering a Glock 19 on his hip. I was wondering if there is a specific license and permit that allows you to take your personal firearms wherever you go, and if so, what are the circumstances that you may carry one out? Note that none of these people are in any way, shape, or form affiliated with the military or law enforcement. Any answer is appreciated. Thanks!
