In the new movie "Invasion LA," the Marines are using rifles which I assume are M16 rifles. One the top, there is a scope, and at the end is a ^ shape which I guess is the "sight." Between the scope and the ‘sight’ there is a rectangular-shaped, grey-colored object, possibly metal, which when the camera is filming toward the gun barrel, has 2 holes on one side and one hole on the other side.
Any one know what that is for?
PS Absolutely incredible pro-Marine movie.

I was just wondering, what all do they do in the usmc? Also what is there main purpose and do they ever do infantry stuff, carry a rifle, etc? Also do you have to be very smart to do that stuff? I’m kinda interested in it, that and infantry. Thanks guys

K I like military type rifles especially ones that use 7.62 ammo (Ak-47, Sks, FN FAL mosin nagant etc.) I hunt deer and was wondering what rifle like this has large enough ammunition for deer. 7.62 would be alright except i need more range than most of these rifles offer. I read somewhere that the FAL comes in .308 but im not a big fan of .308. the wwii springfield rifle is 30-06 which some people i know like for deer. any suggestions would be awesome thanx.

Well, so me and a friend have been shooting high caliber scoped rifles since we were like 7. I’m almost out of HS, and I don’t have a good financial opportunity. I have really always wanted to be a sniper, for the challenge of long ranges of like a mile or two. I want to know EVERYTHING that I might need to know about becoming a sniper. Body (Eye sight, Hearing, physical fitness), Mind (right frame of mind) everything. I really would love to be one, but I need to know everything, please help

Recently, I have begun thinking about how Inefficient America is with its military. For example: A javelin missile costs 170,000 dollars for the missile and launcher. Rpg-7s cost about 00.
A single American Multi purpose patrol boat costs about ,000,000 dollars. My grandfather made Iranian patrol boats out of 2 pieces of metal welded together. They would put RPG squads in them and a fishing motor. Then, they would get in position in the middle of the night and use oars to get near the shore and destroy Iraqi bases (Iran-Iraq war,). This cost about 500-1500 dollars for the boat.
There is a young man who died in the Iraq-Iran war. He was in the army and most his squad mates were dead or injured. He was out of ammo (they sent most troops out without ammo to hold the line) and he witnessed families and helpless children dieing. The Iraqis were approaching with tanks and destroying the town he was in. He had some grenades so went under a tank and put a grenade in the fuel tank, causing the entire tank to explode. So by using a some cheap Iranian grenades he destroyed a British Chieftain tank, which costs about 25 million dollars. Al Quada is killing Americans with Remington rifles every day in Iraq. WTF…. I mean come on America, I know you have money to spent but really?

Please give me your honest recommendation… I’m looking for a high caliber, surplus field rifle that would also function as a big game hunting rifle. I’ve been considering the G3A3 (or HK41) but these are way too expensive for a 22 year old rural Coloradoan… Recommendations?
As a side-note, I’m cross-eye dominant, so I’m leaning towards a semi-automatic as opposed to a bolt-action.

Heres a picture of it: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/86/Socom16.JPG
I’m looking for a magazine-fed semiauto rifle to kill wolves that come onto my property, but I really want a more military designed one or synthetic stock. Anyone know of a good one that’s relatively inexpensive? I like the Socom 16 but it’s like ,000.

I am writing a fictional novel and would like to know if I could use the REAL names of any people, guns, or vehicles (such as JFK, the XM8 rifle, or RAH-66 Comanche) in it. I know it sounds kind of dumb but I just wanted to make sure.
Can I use the names of deceased people? Once again JFK.

My Navy husband’s been in jail for almost four months now. He shallowly cut my throat with a hunting knife and then shot himself through the cheek with a rifle. At the time of arrest, I didn’t press charges, but the state’s still prosecuting anyway.
Does the Navy move to discharge in cases like this?
He’s an E-2 Aircraft Mechanic, and we’ve been married for eight months.

So I was reading a military forum about the M4. And it said they had a survey to see how the soldiers like the M4 90% were happy and 80% were happy with the M16A4 in the marines. And the competitors are going up against the NEW M4A1. And with all of the money in the AR15 and it’s rounds. I dont see it being replaced.
Question:Do you think the M4 will be replaced by any of the rifles at the 2011 replacement competion?
Question:How many more years will we use the M4 and M16A4 as our primary rifles

And what do you think should be it’s replacement?
I think the M4 is okay, it’s automatic, it’s accurate, but it’s smaller and just as powerful as the M-16 which isn’t very powerful. I think that a modified M-14 needs to become the standard, that thing is a beast! It’s so accurate and powerful that it’s used as a medium range sniper rifle. If the military can find a way to make the M-14 lighter and automatic, I think the troops would be set.

I am a junior in high school and have always wanted to attend the US Military Academy, and I was wondering if someone could tell me if I even have a chance of getting in.
Right now the classes I am taking are: AP US History, JROTC, Hn PreCal, Hn English, Hn Physics, Newspaper, and AP Environmental Science
I have also already taken 2 years of Latin.
I have played both JV Soccer and JV Lacrosse for all 3 years. This year I am captain for the JV soccer team.
I have basically beaten all other cadets in PT, I did:
59 crunches per/min
21 pull-ups per/min
5 inch sit and reach
8.6 shuttle run
5.55 mile run
All through high school I have had decent grades. Freshman year I got all A’s and B’s. Sophomore year I got A’s, B’s, and I think 1 C. This year I am trying for all A’s and B’s but I think I might get a C.
Other things that might help me get in are: Eagle Scout, Life Guard, Crosby Scholars Program, and other clubs.
I am taking the SAT in December and I’m shooting for around a 1250 on just the reading and math.
I also think that I can get the political nominations because I know some politicians.
I just joined JROTC this year (my junior year) and I am the top shooter on the rifle team, and my instructor is running me for cadet of the year (or the semester, I can’t remember). It is supposed to be a high honor.
If you have any advise on how I can better my chances on getting in please respond or email me.
I think the class that I am going to get a C in is AP US History which is a college level class.

Preferably the Naval Academy.
I’m entering the 10th grade with a 3.66 unweighted GPA and hold a full-time summer job and part-time during the school year. I participated in baseball, track, and cross country, the latter two of which I was varsity (1600m=4:45).
The reason for my seemingly lackluster GPA was during Junior High my school offered me 4 high school credits. Needless to say, I dropped the ball on this opportunity and ended up with a 3.07 GPA. But, I regained focus and earned straight A’s the past year in all honors courses.
My job is with my District’s Technology Department, which was attained without nepotism. I have worked there for 2 Summers and a school year. When I illegally work overtime, I dedicate those hours to volunteering. And if my state’s (Illinois) budget holds, I will continue with this job throughout high school. In track I ran the 1600m and the 3200m, and on occasion the 4x800m. I am a proficient swimmer in open water environments and I am confident with rifles, pistols, etc..

I thought he was a lunatic for years but now I checked a site proving he may be right. Actually, I had to call the FBI on him once when he said the voices told him he had to get his assualt rifle and assassinate former President Bill Clinton when he was visiting our area. They fortuanately took him seriously and stopped him but although they confiscated his weapon (he was a former military weapons specialist) they never arrested him. They just stayed with him at his house until Clinton left town.
I want to know if anyone reading this also believes they had a chip implanted in their head that tells them to do things and hurts when they don’t after being hospitalized while in the military. Or, does anyone reading this know someone else who has told them this. I asked a similar question before here at Yahoo answers but everyone who answered said he was delusional. For those of you who thought it was impossible please google:

It may sound immature (i’m 14), but I’d like to join the USMC in a few years because it has more front line combat than other branches. I know officers get more pay, but do they shoot rifles and engage in combat just like normal enlisted members?
Try to answer my question rather than criticize my reason for considering the military.

I understand you have to be in the military for a number of years to be able to keep your weapons. So I’m asking how long you have to stay in the military and for other information about the question.
