Do liberals generally feel that only police and military should have guns?
The police in my town aren’t that fast, not that they aren’t trying, but a lot can happen in ten minutes……….

Most people have no idea what freedom is, as to your question, I dare say they would be just as happy with no military at all. Since most of them believe that if we just hide back here at home, they will be nice and leave us alone.

No. I am a liberal and I don’t agree with that statement. I believe in responsible and enforced gun control, sensible regulation. Let’s not punish those that are responsible. Let’s keep in mind what the gun regulations are designed to do. Keep citizens safe.
The liberals even have problems with the police having guns … and as mentioned above, they really want to get rid of the military.

No, there are a few extremist gun banning groups on the right and left but after 911 and 8 years of corrupt government the gun issue is dead with the Democratic party and they will leave it up to the states.

Heck no. I’m liberal…the LAST people I would to ‘only’ posses firearms are the police. If the police have them, the people should too. I think you are making assumptions about liberals when you probably shouldn’t. Many of us own guns ourselves, you know.
I don’t understand the point you are trying to make. Are you pro or anti gun? Are you saying cops don’t know how to use their guns? I’d rather not watch a gory video but police should never ever shoot an unarmed man. Anyway, it’s more likely for a child to use their parents gun and accidently shoot themselves or their friend than for a gun in the home to ever be used for "protection".
Police and the military should only have certain types of firearms (like pistols and fully automatic rifles). As for hunting rifles, those are freely available to anyone and only the most liberal person would say you shouldn’t have it.
The average liberal would say that there should be restrictions on firearms for the protection of society and that those restrictions shouldn’t apply to police and the military because their need to protect the country as a whole. This doesn’t mean taking away your firearms, just the ones that are not hunting tools (show me a dear with a bullet proof vest and I will let you keep your armour piercing rounds).
Taking away guns just unevens the playing field. Criminals will aways be able to get guns.
My repsonse time with my 45. is about 5 seconds compared to police which takes about 15 minutes to get where I live.

That is a silly and false notion. I am a liberal. I am a avid hunter. I own several guns. Should we be required to register all of the guns we own? Yes. Should there be a criminal and mental health background check required prior to us taking possession of any guns that we buy? Yes. Should they be a 5 or 10 day waiting period for the background checks to be made? Yes. Should there be strict regulations as to civilian ownership of military weapons (automatic weapons, grenade launchers, C4 explosives, tanks, etc)? Yes.
Well, I’m a tree-hugging, pro-choice, social-program liberal, and here’s what I believe:
I believe all Americans have the right to own a gun for recreational and/or security purposes. That is, a rifle for hunting and/or a handgun for self defense.
I believe that no-one other than the police or the military has the right to own a fully-automatic assault rifle, or the right to stockpile an arsenal.
Is violence really the answer on any ones part? I think everyone should just get their head out of their asses, stop being selfish and stop hurting other people. Whether it be emotionally or physically.
Alas, we don’t live in that type of world, so I believe owning a gun for safety is not a bad thing. But do we really need one for every corner of the house? No. Do police need them? Sure, but use the damn tazer for God sakes!

I am a liberal, I have no problems with resposible gun ownership.
The biggest problem with guns in is the have a tenancy to land in untrained or unstable hands. These are people who allow their children access to weapons, don’t maintain them or couldn’t shoot straight if their life depend on it (which it may).
If I had my way I would make it mandatory that each person who buys a gun takes a training course on how to use, store and maintain that gun.
