They actually think they could save their house from being robbed. They hear the sound from downstairs, they wet the bed, they fiddle with the drawer where the gun is, they try to load the bullets with their trembling fingers, they get ready to get downstairs with it, and then, assuming they haven’t accidentally shot themselves already… well, you can’t outdraw a guy who’s already drawn his gun. They’re already dead. They actually think they can beat this.

The U.S. military is comprised of American citizens. I’d be hard-pressed to find a soldier who wouldn’t side w/ his fellow man when the Government has pushed them to the brink. That my friend is no longer representative of the U.S. — an ideal that U.S. soldiers won’t stand to compromise.

One problem with your assessment. I come from a gun owning family and while I am a loyal and dedicated Soldier I will refuse to obey any order that has me calling in airstrikes on my parents house.

I don’t see Obama ordering military strikes in our own country, and I don’t see our military carrying out any such orders.
If it came to a point where the citizens were taking up arms against our govt, I think our right-wing military would be on the people’s side, not on the side of a dictator. It is our duty as American Citizens to fight our leaders in our plight to uphold the Constitution.

Who says they would be going up against the military? If they become deemed a national threat, why couldn’t it be the government having to hold up against the militias AND most of the military together?
Look at.. which country was it recently? Honduras? In which the leader was forcibly ousted. FYI – the guy had election results data on his computer before the election even took place. It wasn’t a coup at all. It was the country’s military defending the country against a domestic enemy.

Gun rights however you want to interpret the second amendment as a way to protect against oppressive government is an outdated idea. In today’s world guns offer no protection from oppressive government

In the 1770s people were easier to convince. An uneducated populace is far more dangerous than an educated one. Uneducated persons can more easily be convinced to follow a cause, hence why most revolutions start with the lower class. In this day and age, two shooters in a single situation is a rarity outside of organized crime. If everyone is allowed to carry a gun that could change in a hurry.

I am in the military, and if it ever comes to a civil war, I fight on the same side as the Constitution. That could put me on the same side as the government, or the same side as those opposing it……it all comes down to which side is fighting to uphold the Constitution.
But you can believe a war like that wouldn’t have nearly as much to do with bombers and missiles as with rifles.

Owning a gun does not mean that you think you can stand any kind of fury that Uncle Sam is going to throw your way! I think that it is more of an adult security blanket than anything. If any type of civil war broke out again, after all the friends and family so many of our soldiers lost in the Oil war (excuse me) The war against terror, If enough of US Americans stood up and let out there inner soldier and just be all that they can be, Our government would have no choice but to HEAR out the people that they say they are desperately trying to protect! Right? Id put my money on the person who agrees that our soldiers are good people, humans putting their lives on the line for a just cause! Very admirable! And just think! Those supreme beings that you obviously think our military are, ARE our friends, family,co-workers, and neighbors! The only people that don’t think about our military troops or having feelings for their pain and/or sacrifices they make every time they are on the battlefield are all of those that are living on massive compounds they call estates where they cant even interact their neighbors or they just say they are too busy to even pop a Christmas card in their neighbors mailbox are the ones to blame for the lack of unity in this country! Yet all of those that fall in this category are ballsy enough to say that they are proud to be Americans! I surely know that if I saw someone suspiciously trying to enter my neighbors home while they are sleeping, I sure ass hell would not just watch! And if this ever happens to you government puppets, then you’d be wishing you had a neighbor like me or the man who is willing to use his gun to save your bureaucratic ass!
