Do you think the police and the military are the only people who should have guns?
I read a lot of comments about "gun nuts" by liberals that basically imply that people who support the right to own a gun are a little bit crazy for doing so.
So do you think society would be better if the govt. confiscated all the weapons held by private citizens and only gave firearms to the police and the military??

Nope.
The entire reason the founding fathers penned the second amendment into the constitution was so that the people could own guns so that the government could not rule them as the King of England did in his day.

No.
Criminals will always have guns whether they’re banned or not. They come in handy when committing crimes.
Therefore people need to be an added deterrant to crime by having the right of protection and ownership of reasonable weapons to defend themselves.

You mean like it was in Nazi Germany? Remember, one of the first things Hitler did was to take away the guns from the people. Ever wonder why?
Also, just how likely is it that the criminals will turn in their guns. Should we all turn in ours and make things easier for them to prey upon us, steal our stuff, rape our women?

The Framers didn’t think that was a good idea. I can see their point.
November 24th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
No. I don’t think the Police should carry handguns.

Basically liberals think that anything that decreases the influence and freedom of the individual should be stifled in favor of anything that increases the power and influence of the state.
November 24th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
NO.
November 24th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
Good grief no I don’t think this. I am a gun owning liberal. And stand by my right to be so.
November 24th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
Not at all !!
When only those people own guns the citizens are at the mercy of the government.
November 24th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
no
some of them are criminals themselves
how is everyone else suppose to protect themselves?
November 24th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
ask the people of Australia and the UK …….crime is higher
so my answer is NO
November 24th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
Any law o biding citizen should be able to own a gun.
November 24th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
It works ok for England.
November 24th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
No I don’t.
Lets see, if private citizens don’t have guns but criminals do won’t we be at the mercy of criminals? How long does it usually take the cops to show up? By the time they get there it will be a body recovery.
November 24th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
Nope. We would stop being a democracy at that point.
Plus I need the gun for the Zombies.
November 24th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
No…
But I don’t see the reason that ANYONE should own assault rifles and automatic weaponry in this country, outside the military.

Break out the brown shirts with the SS insignias on them !!!
November 24th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
No, if the average citizens are not allowed to have guns then nobody should be allowed to carry one on American soil. If people no longer are allowed to carry guns there is no longer any reason for police to have them either. If you use the argument that criminals will still have guns then you understand the flaw in the argument to ban them. Why punish people who haven’t committed crimes when it won’t do anything to stop criminals?
November 24th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
Friggin’ A, man! NO!
We already have too much government control in our lives…why would anyone want more??
November 24th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
Without guns how are we going to fight tyranny?
November 24th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
Sure.
Then you can watch the 300% crime rate increase
Of course I can assure you,one of the things that will be at least attempted by Comrade Obama in the first 2 years will be some sort of far reaching gun laws.At first they will just try to find any excuse to take the right away from more people. Then heavy taxation, then bans of specific firearms, and then eventually they will go for at least a nearly total ban. They might leave folks a few single shot shotguns or something.

other countries allow it’s citizens to own guns, but only in america does this lead to a prevelance of gun deaths. Look at statistics of all the countries and guess who has more gun deaths than the rest of the world combined? Irresponsible gun owners are the ones who shouldn’t be allowed to own guns, whether they are republican, democrat or independent.
November 24th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
No way, Jose! When the police have all the guns, you have a police state!
November 24th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
No, hell no. I prefer not to live in a police state. Although I am quite sure that is where Obama and his fellow dems are headed. They would like nothing more
November 24th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
Here’s my liberal opinion. No.
I support the constitution and the bill of rights and don’t want to see it changed, no matter how much President Bush Jr. didn’t really seem to care what was in it. Wasn’t there something in there about right to a fair trial AND right to privacy?
November 24th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
Then only criminals would live in the population armed with guns.
Hitler and Stalin had the policy only police and military should be armed.
November 24th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
No, There was a reason the Constitution was created that way so the government could not seize control from the people. People putting all their trust in the government is fool hardy. Thats why we left England,
Thats how tyranny of government control began the decention among the colonist escaping one rule of power by giving it to the people. We have been degrading back to government control again. I see a new revolution rising!

It’s certainly our right to "bear arms," but the problem with it is, not enough people are properly trained in the use of firearms. Even police officers have to spend months justifying any gun use that happens in the line of duty, (and often fight to keep their jobs afterward.)
Of course there are too many guns out there, but if enough well intended people (even regular citizens) had them AND the proper training of usage and safety techniques, there could be less tragedy as a result.
Like most of our nation’s problems, it all just boils down to lack of proper education …
November 24th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
No, "I love my country but fear my government."
The Supreme Court finally addressed this constitutional issue.
November 24th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
So we now live in a world where we can trust the government and there is no crime of any kind?
November 24th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
After living in Bermuda for 18 months, I found that even with no guns other than the police and military, people were still killed but with machetes and knives. Had they had guns, the murder rate would be about the same since the urge to kill isn’t enhanced by guns, only fulfilled. The crime rate in the UK is no lower now that they have no public ownership of guns. The truth is, the only way to overthrow a faulty government is by force of arms and if you remove that option, the government can run roughshod over all of your rights. Power to the Sheeple
November 24th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
definetly not..I am a gun toting liberal w/ a CCW. all we need are sensible gun laws to prevent undesirables from having access to firearms. there has to be some type of system in place that would prevent those with mental health issues from buying guns, then we would not have incidents such as the shootings at Virginia Tech, etc.
