Does anyone know any good books about guns?

Like something with the history, how it’s made, internal/take down view, ect… Just a bunch of information about rifles, pistols, machine guns, ect… I’m mostly interested about guns during the WWII time period, but something that had all guns (military especially) would be great.

No offense guys but if someone new to guns wants some information about books or guns then we should do our best to help them. It kind of bothers me when someone asks a legitimate question and everyone tells him to google it or to go to the library. The last thing I want to be is the uptight person that can’t help a person get a little information. If you don’t want to help then don’t answer the question…..

To answer your question, There is a great book called "Weapon a visual history of arms and armor" It details the weapons from 3000 bc to present time. It shows the dates that weapons were introduced as well as some interesting history of the weapons. It is published by "DK"
    ISBN# is 10: 0-7566-2210-7

I actually use this book a lot to help me answer some of the questions that people ask on Yahoo answers about guns.

It has pretty much every military weapon ever used. It details the intended use and shows great pictures.

If you can find this book, you’ll be happy for sure.

I could go to my bookshelf and start listing books and authors, but they have this really cool building in most cultures called a LIBRARY that employs someone called a LIBRARIAN who will lead you by the nose ring to the gun section and point out all the books with pictures and words and everything.

Encyclopedias have plenty of information about guns, when they were made, how they were made, the internal schematics, what guns were used in every modern war, Wikipedia has plenty of information about them and the best thing about it…it is free and at your disposal anytime of the day.

Most of these are out-of-print. You can probably find most of them second-hand on Amazon though.

General Books on Guns (types, how they work, cartridges, some internal diagrams of various styles of actions, history of those guns):
    (1. The Gunner’s Bible. Bill Riviere. Doubleday & Company, Garden City. 1965.
    (2. The Rifle Book. Jack O’Connor. Alfred A. Knoff, New York. 1964
    (3. Complete Book of Rifles and Shotguns. Jack O’Connor. Outdoor Life Harper & Row. New York. 1961.

Firearms History (including military firearms from the period you asked about):
    (1. The Story of the Gun. Ian V. Hogg. Boxtree Limited. London. 1996.

Illustrated Books (good for general synopsis)
    (1. The Illustrated Book of Guns. David Miller (editor). Thunder Bay Press. San Diego. 2000. (Take some of the stuff in this book with a grain of salt, the editor made mistakes).
