I think that’s it’s simply odd – I don’t see any real point to it, unless the supplier is convinced that the secret Bible codes will give some weird blessing to our troops. I don’t really have an opinion on it. As long as the weapons are up to par, I don’t see any reason for the supplier to be prosecuted for inscribing messages on their weapons that no one even notices most of the time.

Disgusted, as it seems rather typical of hypocrites, but it doesn’t change much.

I guess that the war really is in the name of God (rolls eyes).
How pathetically sad they would do this. I suppose that killing is alright as long as it’s in the name of Jesus, eh? I just recently watched a youtube video from TheAmazingAtheist where he interviewed Shirley Phelps-Roper, and she was explaining how all other Christians are hypocrites for picking and choosing what to follow in the Bible. Seeing this story, I cannot help but agree with her here.

Like the mighty "Smoter" good one Yes I will star that

I wish the government would spend our money more wisely.

They’re produced by Trijicon, a company based in Michigan that won a bid to supply weapons to the military. Definitely a right wing company with a "join the NRA" logo on their site. The verse references are so small that the military may have even been unaware of it. Regardless, their contract needs to be ended ASAP.
Oh and by the way, I have to add … I can’t believe some of the comments to the story.
One person who commented on it wrote: "ACLU and the liberal attorneys like Weinstein have turned us into every other third world country without freedom. This country was founded on Christianity. I don’t recall reading about George Washington or any other of our founding fathers reading the Koran or kneeling on their prayer rugs." – Yes, I will definitely have to go in there and give them a dose of intelligence.

By declaring war on terrorist it gives them credibility. When you give something credibility, then you are basically allowing yourself to do whatever the hell you want with it because it disagrees with your ideologies and you have given them credibility be doing so.
War on terrorists = Holy war. Oil war. Stupidity war.
War on the United States? Please. Propaganda! But, from whom?!!? Or *gasp* both sides!
Oh, wait. I’m just stoned. My bad, man. My bad.

Good for them. Does not matter to me how or where the Word of God gets out as long as it does get out!
A glimpse of the article:
One of the citations on the gun sights, 2COR4:6, is an apparent reference to Second Corinthians 4:6 of the New Testament, which reads: "For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ."
Other references include citations from the books of Revelation, Matthew and John dealing with Jesus as "the light of the world." John 8:12, referred to on the gun sights as JN8:12, reads, "Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
Tom Munson, director of sales and marketing for Trijicon, which is based in Wixom, Michigan, said the inscriptions "have always been there" and said there was nothing wrong or illegal with adding them. Munson said the issue was being raised by a group that is "not Christian." The company has said the practice began under its founder, Glyn Bindon, a devout Christian from South Africa who was killed in a 2003 plane crash.
Praise God and God bless Glyn.

I personally have no problem with it, they are just taking God into battle with them…And the fact that the company can put what ever they want on the weapons they make, well , what ever…. Those soldiers are fighting on the order of their supreme commander in chief, so, I think they deserve to have the best of everything, and that includes God with them…… go in peace… God bless
January 18th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
Ironic, isn’t it? I can think of a few scriptures that could have been inscribed on those weapons; although they might make the operator of said weapon think twice before firing. Here’s your star…
January 18th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
The company should lose the contract, assuming that there is another one that can supply the weapons.
January 18th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
Further proof that the Crusades never ended.
January 18th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
It no longer surprises me when I hear about US Christian killing for Jesus.
Its a crying shame, but clearly a result of the faith.
January 18th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
I don’t know how the military soliders didn’t know, the way they have to take care of their rifles.
January 18th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
Wow. I’ve heard about this before and I thought it was so horrible that it must be an urban legend, but it looks like it’s actually true. This is wrong on so many levels.
January 18th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
Fundamentalist behavior to the core.
No star dude.
January 18th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
like the "john 3:16" coins that were given out to the people of Iraq a couple years ago. nothing new there… typical christian evangelizing tactic.
January 18th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
"We believe that America is great when its people are good," says the Web site. "This goodness has been based on Biblical standards throughout our history, and we will strive to follow those morals."
So much FAIL. No wonder people hate us.
January 18th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
How do we know it is not coincidence?
January 18th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
Well to call them "secret" or "codes" is rather misleading and sensational. This does not mean that it is rather weird that a arms manufacture would place scripture references on weapons and sights.
I would question if this violates separation of church and state as well as the appropriateness of it.
January 18th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
Proof that we need to keep all eyes constantly eyeballing the religious right who will stop at nothing to subvert the doctrine of separation of church and state.
January 18th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
I think it’s a good thing cause our guys need all the help they can get in this terrible horrible war!
January 18th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
That’s disgusting. A bible passage about Jesus the pacifist inscribed on a killing weapon…it’s absurd! Only Americans would be dumb enough to do this and not see the contradiction.
January 18th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
Yeah, Christianity is indeed the religion of peace.(sarcasm)
I really don’t care what they want to inscribe on their weapons but this is simply bizarre.
Hey, send me a dozen Voice of the Lord nuclear warheads will you?
January 18th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
Its amazing how many loonies there are out there. This company needs to have its contract canceled and be sued. The owners are obviously violating the terms of their military contract.
This is really sick in a lot of ways.
January 18th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
Nasty indeed. Very inappropriate.
It would, however, be appropriate if JN 8:12 actually read:
8:12 At greater than 50 cubits, forget thou not to lead thine sighting ahead of a moving target.
January 18th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
I am sure it won’t matter when they sell them to their future enemies. Why are Christians so into killing other people when there holy book expressly forbids them from doing so.
January 18th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
I’m surprised that so many people are surprised. Most fundamentalist Christians are strong supporters of any military action the U.S. undertakes. "My country right or wrong," goes hand in hand with "God is on our side."
January 18th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
Thanks for the link; I just posted it on my FB account. How could anyone give those that we are fighting the chance to say that they are righteous because we are engaging in a ‘holy war’! Let’s just recruit for the Taliban and Al-Qaeda this way! How stupid!
January 18th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
Sorry friend, I am far more upset and dismayed that our country is at war. That the best of our best young people are being killed and maimed on foreign soil. I can see no end nor victory. As I write this, one of my young cousins is stationed in Afghanistan.
Minute secret bible codes inscribed on military weapons is not an issue I will lose sleep over. I do think it is ridiculous. When I think of God and religion, I picture grace, love and understanding… not shooting people! Silly me.
One last rant. It seems to me everyone is so busy being mean and hateful…. atheists mocking religious folks, religious people condemning the nonbelievers……we are missing the overall picture. We are all together in this world. We should be loving and taking care of each other. Not blowing up innocent citizens with bombs or shooting men with rifles with biblical inscribed on the scopes. Yep, I am disgusted with it all!
January 18th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
How do I feel about this, darling?
I want the money back. All $100 million of it.
And I want them fined.
And I want the people in the military who didn’t bother to take action when this violation of the Constitution was pointed out to them fined.
And this company should be banned from doing business with the US government. Ever.
I think that’s about all.
They deliberately added these inscriptions (and we paid for the extra time and work it took, taxpayers), knowing that they were a violation of the First Amendment. Should our government be doing business with companies that treat the Constitution with such contempt?
And their spokesman dismisses the problem because the group complaining is "not Christian."
Unreal.
January 18th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
Please excuse my naivete, but I’d assumed America’s recruitment drive in aid of the Taliban and other terrorists had ended with the demise of George Bush. How wrong I was. This is sick! sick! sick!
January 18th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
What a Satan inspired evil Blasphemy.
As the saying goes "War Is Hell " not Heaven .
January 18th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
Do. Not. Care.
I really just don’t care what the heck people write on any guns at all. It’s not exactly prime advertising or anything.
Also: if you are holding a gun and using a rifle sight, you probably HAVE MUCH MORE IMPORTANT THINGS TO WORRY ABOUT THAN THOSE TINY LITTLE LETTERS ON THE GUN.
January 18th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
All down through history soldiers and their captains have used the force of God to back them when going to battle. I think it’s awesome!
January 18th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
What can we say, we just want US to win where ever they have to go. The rest is not important.
