I know that I shouldn’t hold down fire and shoot like a maniac, but what is the best pattern?
Should I shoot like 5 bullets and then pause and do that over again? or should I shoot 1 bullet and pause for a short time?
I don’t know

Depends on the gun. If you have the FAMAS with Thermal Sight or ACOG, use it like a sniper.
If it’s a Low-Mid Range Rifle, like the M4, you need to shoot in bursts no more than 3, don’t pause for too long, maybe half a second; just enough for the recoil to settle or else your prey will escape…

depends on what your perception of long distance is, but definitely dont spray, controlled burst fire.
shoot 1-3 bullets at a time, and pause until your gun has regained accuracy. usually like half a second
finetune the method for each gun, some guns have better or worse accuracy, and faster or slower rate of fire
