How would one modify a sniper rifle’s weight?

Let’s say someone had a sniper rifle that weighed about 20 pounds. What could someone do to lower the weight of it?

A heavier rifle is more accurate to fire. Even if you could modify one, why would you want to?

It must have a heavy barrel. There are modern ones with composite material but I expect they are expensive. You could also use a lighter stock.

By the time you change such things you could just buy another rifle for the cost.

If it has a wooden stock, replace it with a plastic or composite one.

I’d say it must be a Barrett’s if it weights 20 lbs. Sniper rifles are weighty but that is because of the extras for accuracy. I’d leave it alone and learn to deal with it. Some here have recommended changing the stock and so forth but a sniper rifle generally has its stock made, floated and glassed for a specific fit and accuracy so leave that alone.

unless it already has a fiberglass or plastic composit stock theres not much to ligthen. the remainder of the weight would be mainly the barrel and necessary parts for the rifle, so cant do anything about that.
