is it illegal for a civilian to own and operate a full auto assault rifle?

January 2nd, 2010 by eranio

I live in SD and i was wondering if it was illegal to own and operate a fully automatic assault rifle
The reason im asking is because i was interested in buying a fully automatic Ak-47, not for shooting people, but for recreational purposes

It is legal in your state. The process is to find someone that has one for sale, come up with the purchase price, go get fingerprinted, get your local law to agree to let you have the gun, send all that into BATF with their $200 fee, wait a couple of months, and then have the gun shipped to a title 3 dealer in your state.

Here is one for sale at only $14,000.00

I wish you good luck, this is a bit of an expensive hobby. If it were me, I would just get one of the semi ones, and put my big bucks into a heaver machine gun, or something truly historical such as:

Full auto requires a permit from the Treasury Dept. AFT.

What the f you need one of those for? Shooting somebody with anything above a pistol is psycho overkill. Am I right?
