Is it legal to own an assault rifle in New York?
Specifically an FN SCAR. I’ve always wanted one of those. I know the Rangers use them though… Are submachine guns legal?
Also, I picked hunting because I figured people who know about guns would be browsing questions here.
Okay. And yes, I do play CoD.
What exactly do you mean by detachable magazine? I can’t reload the gun?

if you want to own a full auto they are extremely expensive, require a $200 tax stamp and extensive background check, and there are states that dont allow you to own them, also the full auto gun has to have been manufactured before 1986
you can buy semi auto only copies of the fn scar, they are around $3000

Assault rifles are illegal in New York but you can legally own semi-auto rifles. The only probably is you’re limited on supposed evil features like pistol grip and detachable magazines etc. So it’s realy going to be hard to adapt a SCAR to comply with NY law. My advice is start voting out some of those idiots like Michael Bloomberg and Patterson.

Go back to your cod, and no fully automatic guns are illegal in Ny, and even if they were legal good luck finding a SCAR made before 1986

No. Well new york state but you’d have to get a neutered NY legal one.
Automatics are illegal in NY state. Your speaking of semi-auto sporterrs that look the same. You really need to understand your laws and terminology. I don’t expect everyone here to know all the laws but still if you would do a google search you could get a general idea, then come here and get the specifics.

Alot can depend on where you live in NYS. Inside NYC, there are lots and lot of "fobbidden" rifles. I lived in "upstate" NY till 2000 and had a colt Hbar in 223 with no lug but still had pistol grip, detachable mags including 30 rounders, and it had the evil flash suppressor. All legal. My advice..join/find a gun club with an active Hi power program and ask around. the NRA web pages can help you there. It also helps to be a active hi power shooter too. Traveling to and from a gun range if stopped by LE and searched, many will look the other way if your an NRA member/HI power shooter.

"What exactly do you mean by detachable magazine? I can’t reload the gun?"
I think that one sums up this whole question quite nicely.
