Is the M16A4 assault rifle the most commonly used rifle in the U.S. Millitary?

Is the M16 the most commonly used assault rifle in the U.S. Millitary so far? Also the M4 is basically a shortened M16, right?

    The M16A2 is in the final stages of being replaced across the U.S. Army and Marines by the M4.

    The M16A4 is mostly commonly use by the marines the m4 is most common for the army, M4 is not a really a shortened version of the m16 but an m4 carbine is a shorter versions of the m4 all guns that are smaller version have the same name but are referred to as carbines
