is the m4 still the best all around assault rifle?

if not counting reliability, is it still the best because of its direct gas impingement related accuracy?

like others have said- it really depends on preference. some like the m4 others don’t. it has been a while since i fired an m16 but it does have great accuracy and you can carry more ammo than other rifles so it depends on your preferences.

honestly i never had a problem with the m-4, as long as you take care of it and your magazines it is very reliable. actually gas impingement is less accurate than gas piston once you’ve put some rounds through it (if comparing 2 weapons that are identical aside for gas operated vs gas-piston).

the military has tested rifles that were all around better than the m-4 (416, SCAR) but the cost wasnt worth increase in performance.

There is no such thing as "best" when it comes to weapons. It is all preference. Personally, I think the platform itself is the best out there. If you get a M4 with a piston upper… your good to go.

i personally hate the m16 and the m4. but asking a question like you just asked is simply personal preference…it is like dodge vs. ford. i am a fan of the HK416, and the guy next to me can be a fan of the ak74. its all personal preference. there is no "best" assault rifle.

I quite like the M4s, but the F88s and a ROK K2 seem nice as well. It’s all about personal preference. Personally I think a good old Bren gun s***s over the 3 but the guy next to me will say otherwise. Personally I quite like the Bren’s reliability, unique design and it’s accuracy (you can fire single shot and it practically becomes a sniper rifle,) as well as it’s historical significance. The M4 comes close with it’s accuracy and small size and weight, but I still prefer a Bren simply because the gun is sexy.
