Licensing a military firearm in Florida?

November 29th, 2009 by eranio

My relative (diseased) had a military issue colt pistol which he kept from WWII, is there any legal way to license it? It has no documentation.
Its a M1911 colt.

No, since there is no gun registration, permit or licensing in Florida.

They do issue a concealed handgun license but this licenses a person to carry handguns, not the guns they may carry.

It is a documented pistol if it was issued from a military branch, even back then. Although records might have been destroyed over the years, you can have the serial number checked and file for possesion permit, but to license it to carry wouldn’t be a great idea.
Many military Colts issued during the WWII era were the 1911 edition Colt 45 auto, which came two ways, either greenish color metal with wood grain handgrip, or crome with mother of pearl handgrip(officers edition) and the value of those guns can go over the 1500-2000 dollar range to collectors.
Not bad when you consider the military paid 15 dollars a piece for them back then.
