Military-style guns: buyback vs. ban vs.anti-crime law vs. do-nothing policy?
What should the federal government do about military-style firearms semiautomatic so-called assault weapons and 50-calibre rifles) in American society? 1)direct governmental ban? 2)national voluntary buyback program (owners are paid money to voluntarily turn in semiauto asssault weapons and 50-calibre rifles)? 3)an anti-crime law (especially in cases where the weapon and perepetrator go across state lines to commit a crime with military-style gun)? 4)simply adopt a hands-off do-nothing policy?

Only 1% of murders are committed using so-called assault weapons. Assault weapons are not a problem. You cannot conceal such firearms so it is difficult for criminals to use them without getting caught.

The 10 year ban on so-called "assault weapons" was a complete failure and expired. There is no desire in congress to renew it. Even the most anti-gun politicians have finally given up. Only 39% of Americans favor stricter gun control according to a recent CNN poll. People are catching on. Gun control does not work!

70 million more guns were sold in 2006. There are now well over 250 million firearms in private hands. Violent crime dropped 38% and continues to decline as more guns end up on the street. More guns = less crime. There are less victims and more people defending themselves.

So why doesn’t the federal government invest time into doing something that will actually make a difference rather than infringing on my consitutional rights?

there are few crimes committed with assault weapons. an assault weapon is just a rifle built to fulfill a military requirement. it is not necessarily any more dangerous than a shotgun or lever action rifle. .50 cal. weapons are usually crew served weapons that are unwieldy and very conspicuous. most gun crimes are committed with hand guns. you can pass all the antigun laws(we have over 20000) you want. how do you get guns away from gang bangers, criminals, and crazies? why would owners of weapons want to turn them in? they could just sell them at a gun store.

Semi-autos are NOT assault weapons. That’s just hoplophobic scare tactics used by dishonest agenda driven politicians.
Black color nor pistol grips do not make firearms "assault". More dishonesty.
Buy back programs have never reduced or solved any crime.
NO new law will do a thing to reduce crime, criminals don’t care, in fact they love gun control.
Stupid gun-fearing people should quit trying to restrict other peoples Constitutional rights.
