Military using airsoft guns to train???
I came accross this article the other day (posted below). It claims that the military has been using airsoft guns to train soldiers and Marines. I was just wondering if any of you current servicemen have ever trained with airsoft guns. I also came accross another article (also posted below) that shows Marines playing airsoft just for the hell of it. Do any of you current military personnell play airsoft? Any info would be great. Thanks.

I’m not sure about them actually using airsoft (as it’s played by civilians), but I do know they use actual (or modified) service rifles that fire bullets made from laundry detergent (sim rounds) which basically acts like a paintball marker with better flight characteristics.
The only situations where I’ve heard of service-members playing airsoft is for recreation…like a friend of mine stationed in Hawaii now.

I certainly used an A4 my entire time through training last year. I went through basic and infantry training.

That’s cool. But, I think a paintball gun would work better. They are more accurate, and you can put kits on them to make them look like M4s, Barrets, etc.

hah actully yes my unit has trained with airsoft before. We used them when doin room clearing stuff. it was actully pretty fun but not very realistic since the ones we used could shoot like 1000 a min. but anyways yup it is true
edit #1 We used M4 airsoft guns and they were a lot cheaper than paint ball guns and they are way easier to clean up once we were done

i’m not in yet, but i’ve seen them use both airsoft and paintball on t.v. and my marine and airforce friends have used them in training.

I play airsoft as a hobby but my unit does not use airsoft guns for training. We use sim. rounds which are more realistic, more powerful and more accurate than paintball and airsoft. Most airsoft guns are not design to replicate the real firearm (except expensive AEG’s that is fitted with a bolt that goes to the rear when ur out and gas pistols.) Airsoft does help me work on some forms firearm tactics though.

the majority of the time the military uses special paintball rounds fitted for actual guns like m4s and pistols and all sorts of stuff.
