personal firearms in the military?

December 10th, 2009 by eranio

I plan on going into the army and was just thinking about what to do with my personal firearms? I dont have a house of my own and i cant leave them were I am now while im in the service. I heard that you can bring them with you and put them in the armoury were you are stationed. Is that true? and if it is true, is that a safe thing to do? Just saying, i have one pretty nice piece and i dont want to worry about people playing with it when no ones around…. thanks for the help =)

What you heard about storing your personal firearms in the post armory is correct. If you live in the dorms and own firearms, you cannot keep them in your room but must store them in the armory. If you are married and live in base housing then you can keep them in your house.

And don’t think that your weapons will be safe if you leave them in the armory. I’ve seen plenty of armorers playing around with the PWs in storage, and have seen more than one dropped and damaged because of it. My suggestion is when you check your weapons in for storage, make sure they’re in a LOCKED case when you do so. This will prevent anyone from putting their mitts on them and will protect them from damage.

Unless you can find an off post to store your weapon you will need to use the arms room in your unit. It should be OK, trust me weapons are closely accounted for!

If you live in base housing (married) you can keep them in your house.

If you live off base (house or apartment) you can keep them there also.

If you live in the barracks you can not keep them with you and you either have to find a friend that lives off base or in base housing to keep them for you or you have to put it in the Armory.
