So now the U.S. military is issuing guns with New Testament inscriptions on them?

January 25th, 2010 by eranio

It’s here in this ABC News story:

Violation of church & state anybody? There are a whole lot of people in the military who either aren’t religious or belong to a different religion, yet they put their lives on the line like everyone else. Supposedly, they are fighting for a country that doesn’t try to push any one religion on people and doesn’t persecute religious minorities.

The military did not know those were even there.

It was code that looked like it was part of the identification number.

Apparently the owner of the company that supplied the sights was a devout Christian and slipped it past the inspectors.

I think someone who has a problem with Bible scripture is the minority. The rest of us don’t mind it at all.

You are ignorant of the facts read the article
    They are scopes, not rifles

And yap ABC sure has blown the lid off this one.

oh please, they were provided by a private contractor…..How is that a violation of church and state?

  6. fittofight

They also print in god we trust on money and atheist still spend it. If they don’t like it let them run around without a weapon.

If you ever have to serve in combat, believe me your religious.

Sounds like you don’t know the meaning of separation of church and state. It’s separation of church and state NOT separation of church FROM state. Just because something religious is inscribed on something doesn’t mean the religion is being pushed onto you or that religion is the state supported religion.

No, it’s just Christians trying to spread the gospel.

jesus will be turning in his grave!

No it is not a violation of Church and State, an independent contractor is not "the State" and can put what ever serial number they choose on a piece of equipment. Don’t you just hate when your own policies come back to bite you in the rear?

What a waste of money by the military. Just more proof of how Christianity and war are tightly linked. How sad.

The military and the state are separate, enlisted soldiers and sailors as well as officers don’t even have constitutional right they follow the military code of justice

If I have to wield a weapon made by the enemies of my faith (I’m a Heathen), I guess I won’t enlist to defend the US even if it’s attacked.

Well, I would. But don’t my officers dare complain if I engrave a Valknut on each and every weapon I’m given.

hey, during WWII a copy of the new testament was standard issue with the appropriate branch insignia. I still have my dad’s marine copy. Our founders wanted a separation of church and state, not a full blown divorce.
I seem to remember a quote "there are no atheists in foxholes". When an enemy bullet explodes the face of the man next to you, even those that don’t believe say "oh my god".
personally, I’m more in favor of using refined pig fat as a bullet lubricant for fighting in the middle east and talking it up so the whole world knows. If we’re wanting to send them to hell then lets do it in a way that makes them believe we’re sincere.

Sort of reminds me of the holy hand grenade in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Oh Lord, bless this thy holy hand grenade, that with it I may blow thine enemies to tiny bits in thy mercy–

  17. SilverPhoenix

Well…. It seems some want a HOLY WAR. It shouldn’t bother them too much if the bullets coming from the other sides guns are being automatically blessed as they fire from them.

Its a plot by our enemies to keep the Muslims we’re trying to train to fight for themselves from using our weapons.
The people who are doing this and are supporting it are enemies of America.

Sorry to do this to you but one can tell that you are about as knowledgeable about the military as a pig is about saturday nights.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof……."
-Congress has made no such law and you and many others are interpreting to you’re own devices.

While it may be intentional or accidental they are just numbers and if you will read the first line you will see that it says nothing about this incident.
I’m sure this is not what you want to hear but there is nothing prohibiting anyones exercise of religion here as was the intent of the writers of the Constitution. They never meant to eliminate religion just guarantee the freedom to do so as one pleases, something which was denied and persecuted in their countries of origin.

When they start dragging Muslims, Buddhists and Baptists from their home in the middle of the night, let me know. I’ll stand with you and demand they stop.

Oh and this ‘news’ source/government entity that somehow connects the numbers on the rifles as a religious war are just plain idiots. The last I read Al Qaeda believes this is a religious war to begin with so their point is moot to begin with.

There are a whole lot more who are christian. The provider of the site mounts has been doing this for years… Free thinking people who are confident in their beliefs should be in no way threatened by seeing jn:3:16 on thier firearms. Only the insecure and the narrow minded would be offended by such a thing.

  22. Dan

I wish they would also dip the bullets in pig blood to give the muslins something to think about.

Violation of church & state, is a made up thing from people that hate America. It has nothing to do with the United States of America Constitution.
