surplus military rifle?
I need info about a rifle. Bolt action, non detatchable magazine, rear sight folds up with a sliding mechanism for distance adjustments. The only markings on it are M1831 on the receiver and 1831 on the bolt handle. The rear portion of the bolt has4110 stamped on it. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
48.5" overall length
straight bolt
no hole in stock, steel butt plate
magazine does not extend below stock
unable to post pics

The third pic looks identical. Can you tell me anything about it? Caliber, ammo type, country of origin, etc?

Sounds like a Turkish Mauser to me.

Go to surplusrifle.com and look at all the pictures till you find the same gun.

Sure it doesn’t say "1891"?
Much of what you are describing sounds a bit like a Mosin-Nagant M1891/30. There are a lot of these old rifles floating around. (Of course the "1831" part probably disqualifies that…)

Some of your description does sound like a Mosin-Nagant. Check out this site, see if it has your gun:

It could also be another design.
And it can’t say 1831. Are you sure? Because bolt action wasn’t invented yet.
That third picture was a Mauser. Gewehr 98 fits the bill then. Everybody used Mausers, they were the best. So the design is German, but everybody used them. Its 8mm Mauser (7.92mm).

Need more info
Military model number often refer to the year the gun was adopted by that military
The only M1831 military rifles were flintlocks
That must be the serial number
A pic would be great
Does it have a bent bolt or straight?
How long is the overall gun?
Is there some type of hole in the butt stock?
Is the mag flush with the stock?

Any of these even close

The third pic is of a Turkish Mauser but there are many many variants of Mauser
If your is a Turk it will have markings on the receiver in front of the bolt that look like a cresent
There should be some markings there anyway
There is another Milsurp with M31 in the name but it is a straight pull and has a large ring at the very rear of the bolt
The only thing about your description that fits the Mosin Nagant is the length
Bu a few Mausers were also that long
