I’ve read that military surplus 5.56mm NATO ammo may be unsafe in standard bolt action hunting rifles chambered for the .223 Remington cartridge. Any truth to this? I’m checking out a Stevens model 200 for my son but want to shoot surplus and economy ammunition in it. Is there anything to be concerned about such as pressures, cartridge length, bullet weight or bullet seating depth? Will the Stevens shoot milsurp safely and without jamming the rifle?
I am looking into buying one of these rifles and, in all of my research, couldn’t find out if it is capable of firing a standard NATO round in addition to something like a .223 Remington. Thank you.
I’m looking for a .223 Remington or .308 Winchester rifle that costs between 0 and 00 and has military style iron sights as well as a mount for optics. M1A’s are a bit out of my price range and I’d rather not buy a modified California legal AR-15, but I’m still trying to buy a rifle that I can work on improving my marksmanship with an M16. Any suggestions? Thanks.
