I was going to invest in a new .308 Winchester rifle and have ,000 to spend (not including scope, bipod, etc.). I have heard good and bad about the Remington 700 and want some suggestions. I was particularly interested in a rifle that the military uses, but will settle for something else. Thanks.

M1A’s are a bit out of my price range and I’d rather not buy a modified California legal AR-15, but I’m still trying to buy a rifle that I can work on improving my marksmanship with an M16.
