I’m 16, and I want to join the military. I’m very competitive, have a high SAT (around 2000 on the 2400 scale), and am in pretty good shape. I’m in NJROTC at my high school, and scored a 269 (out of 300) on my first PFT of the year, though that score is probably a bit off b/c I had mono at the time. I’m on my unit’s PT Team, Orienteering Team, and Air Rifle Team. I want to be in a combat arms MOS, but whether I’m enlisted or a commissioned officer doesn’t really matter. Any thoughts?
My grades are decent, but not great. My current GPA is 3.29. Probably not good enought to get into a service academy, but you never no…it’s their job to say "no", not mine.
And I’m male…
In response to Jeff M, I mostly like to be outside. I love things like orienteering, camping, running, playing sports, and competing at just about anything. My number one goal on a PFT (or anything else like that) is to be better than everyone else, period.
As for the PFT requirements, I did 71 push-ups in two minutes, 78 sit-ups in two minutes, and ran the 1.5 mile run (short run, I know) in 12:03. At the time I had mono, so I wasn’t really exercising regularly, although I am now. I’ve got another one coming up in April. Hope that helps, and thanks for the advice.
And as for branches, I’m thinking Army or Marine Corps, no Navy or Air Force. I’m also thinking combat arms, if that’s specific enough.

I want to return to the military after I received my Bachelors degree. I plan to be an officer. I was enlisted in the Army, but now would like to go to Navy OCS or Coast Guard OCS. I was discharge because I had a condition that existed prior to service. I was not able to fully qualify on my rifle. I plan to go towards the Navy or Coast Guard because they are not much battle orientated. The only thing stopping me is the recruiter. For me to get back into the military, I would need to get a waiver. Unfortunately, recruiters are not willing to go through the effort to get a waiver for me since there are many other recruits out there that do not require a waiver. Does anybody have any suggestions or tips for me to get a recruiter to get off his ass and not be lazy to get a waiver? I thank you very much everyone who helps me out with this.

I want to know what everyone even if you are not military thinks about it. Saving lives firing weapons the whole she-bang. what do you think about letting them into combat jobs like 11B or even special forces and rangers.
Didn’t mean for people to be offended or think i was against it. I am a PFC medic in the army i just was curious about what peoples views were.
jesus guys i know they are not allowed into positions like those i want to know what you think if they started allowing us into combat like that

I am in the US Air Force Security Forces and am a few months shy of completing a four year enlistment. I’m thinking about getting a tattoo and would like it to be military related. I can’t really say that I’ve done anything worthwhile that would be worth commemorating in a tattoo. I haven’t been to any special schools and while I’ve deployed twice they’ve unfortunately both been to friendly countries nowhere near the AOR.
I can’t really think of anything Air Force that doesn’t look completely fake or have any meaning or history behind it. Even the skull with beret and crossed rifles that you see in tech school looks stupid.
I’m trying to think of something generically military. I’ve considered a battlefield cross maybe. My dad seems to think that’s more of an army thing. Didn’t think so myself.
Any opinions on this or other ideas?

I’m 16 and I’d like to become a sniper in the army, I was going to apply in two years when I turn 18 but I’d like to get further training with the weapons, I’m already an extremely good shot, my eye sight is 20/20 and I’m exceedingly fit. Any other details I won’t note down. So is there anyway of further training?

I started shooting with my brother and father when I was nine. My Dad sort of explained the front sight and the back sight and that was it. I was not the favored son, ( I was small, weak, and not incredibly masculine) so the only thing my Dad would do is scream at me if he thought I was being unsafe, when he and my brother were shooting. My Dad and Brother would have fun shooting together. I was usually dumped off in some small canyon not far away with a brick of .22 and told not to shoot in their direction. I was an "oops" baby late in my Father’s life, and he was exasperated at having to raise another kid when he was 50. I often wonder if I would be a better shot today, if instead of teaching myself how to shoot, I actually had correct instruction from the beginning.
And here is the part that made no sense to me: I had about nine years of shooting experience before I went into the Army. At 18, you could have handed me almost any gun in America, and I have a pretty good idea what it was, and how to use it. Guess who the Firearms Training Sergeants yelled at the most? Yeah. Me. They constantly kept screaming about how I stood, how I held the gun, and how I pulled the trigger. I had absolutely no problem qualifying. I wasn’t a great shot, but I could qualify, no problem. Why didn’t they yell and scream about the people who couldn’t qualify? I shot well enough to qualify the first time I fired the M16. Did it make any sense that they would scream at ME to change my style if I could qualify?

My nephew loves anything military. He wants to join the army and be a scout. He is eleven and this is the question he wanted to put on here. Any military guys, or girls, out there have any info at all on the history or logistics of the M16, please let me know. Thank You!
Just wanted to let the anti-gun nuts on here know that my nephew is actually home schooled and they don’t allow uneducational television in their home! His interest in the military comes from a long family history of military members, Air Force, Marines, and Army, so if you are offended just don’t answer. He just wants to be educated on something that has been a part of his family for generations!!

I would prefer someone who has used the weapon in real life, but people in the army who just know about it, or even a really good link to a website would be fine.

I have a homemade ghillie suit my brother made before he went into the Army. I definitely will not lie and say that I was in the military if someone asks……………….and I won’t carry a rifle.

Hey every one,
This is my first question on yahoo. I’m 20 years old, and want to be a police officer. Its a long process, and I got really far into it. Things where looking good, and promising, tell I was notified today that I was not going to be considered for the job. I cant reapply for two years now.
On that note, I am really thinking about joining the military. I shoot on a tactical rifle team (with M4′s and such things) and our team also shoots Airsoft for training. I like helping people, and as always the guns and toys. Although I was thinking of the Army, all my team members (who most have been airforce) tell me I don’t want to join the army, and the airfoce is the way to go.
My biggest fear of joining the airfoce is that Ill be stuck some where in the green zone and not get to do anything. No one wants to get shot at, but I do want to see some action.
Every one talks about how much better everything is in the Airfoce. Is the Army really that bad?
Ill also add that I have my GED and my COMP TIA A+ (although I’m not that interested and doing computers in the military) I didn’t have any problems passing the agility tests for the police force, and when maxing out, come very close to the airfoce requirements for max points.
any info and feed back from you all will really help.
Thanks,

I was wondering if it is possible for me to join the army, 2 years ago I got charged with Check Fraud, Forgery, and Theft by deception. I was put on 6 years first offender probation, but my probation officer told me that if I pay off all the fines, it would be possible for me to get off probation, I know I can’t join while on probation. I also have a misdeanor gun charge and I was ARRESTED for possession of firearm by convicted felon but that charge was later dropped. I scored a 54 on the asvab, am I eligible?
Once off probation, I won’t be a felon anymore due to the First Offender Act, and the charges won’t show as a conviction.

I am not talking about the heavy stuff the army uses, I mean stuff available to the public i have heard the Remington (forgot the number) modified bolt action that everyone practically has used for hunting is still regarded as the best.

If it was up to you, what would you select (air, sea, land, personell) to dedicate resources to in a 10 year plan to develop better weapons of war for the US Military.
Im sure some systems have reached their pinnacle (plane speed or payload for example) using existing tech, but some areas must be lagging behind.
Would you focus on Airforce, Navy, Army, or elements to benefit them all?
*If funding was not a issue and there was a few hundred billion thrown to the effort.

I was going to join the Army (US) several years ago. But I can’t be around guns, and with my mental health issues, they weren’t going to touch me.
What about you guys?
Stupid teenager answers are acceptable. lol I’ve always wanted to go sky diving.
Well "devil", that’s kind of offensive. It’s not like I woke up one day and decided to have mental issues.

The military has needed a new rifle for a while now. The soldiers have been saying it. Many of the top brass have been saying it. There have been better alternatives to the M16/M4 for many years now, even simple upper receiver swaps that would improve the current system dramatically. So why is this test even necessary?

Haven’t the last four decades been test enough?
If it was up to me, I would go for the Magpul Masada.

I’ve learned from multiple military sources that the M16 and M4 are the current infantry rifles issued to soldiers in the American Military. I assume this applies to both the Marines and Army. However, I’m curious as to why these two weapons are both circulated through the military, and in what quantity they’re present in, respectively. Of the two, which is more common for a soldier to be issued?

I love to travel (would not mind going anywhere in the world), I love guns (training would be great), I like to stay fit (even though I have not been doing that lately. And basically I would like to experience something new in life being 25 and not heading in any direction. Any advice? I was thinking perhaps Army or Marines, my career is Information Technology. And I am an adrenaline junkie if that means anything.

option A: an elderly, distinguished gentleman who has 18 years of military service in the United States Navy, served his country as a prisoner of war, and led his colleagues in the United States Senate on several important issues, including increasing funding for national defense, the promotion of firearms and reductions in taxes
option B: a young, inexperienced son of immigrants from another continent, who has never been in the army, never shot a gun, and is of a different race and ethnicity than the majority of American citizens

It has been my boyfriend’s dream to join the Navy or Marines since he was young. He migrated to the US in 2005 when he was 18 years old but just three months later got in trouble with the law. He got caught with 0 dollars in counterfeit money and was charged with 1 count possession of counterfeit money and 2 counts of possession with intent to pass or use 0 in counterfeit money. One charge of intent to pass or use was dropped but the other along with the possession charge wasn’t. In the end, he was given 3 years of probation, 50 hours of community service and asked to pay 0 fine.
When he got arrested, he was already scheduled to take the ASVAB for the Navy. He really did not know that the money was counterfeit, it was given to him by some friends who were also arrested with him but somehow got off and were never charged with anything. He was new to the country, barely spoke the language and didn’t even have the money to get a lawyer.
He was recently released from probation and has tried to speak with recruiters from the Army and Marines, he knows that it’s impossible to join the Navy with a felony but that the Army and Marines might be possible with waivers. However, he has been quite unlucky as no one seems to want to go through the trouble of helping him.
Recently, he found a Marine recruiter who was willing to help but he said my boyfriend first needed to get a waiver of the gun control act which prevents all felons from possessing firearms but he didn’t tell us how that can be done.
If anyone could help us by giving some tips on how to go through with this, it would be great.
