Obtaining the Appropiate Gun Permits/Licenses in California?

January 29th, 2011 by eranio

My brother and i have always wanted to get our gun licenses and permits since we were younger. Now that we noticed that it would be right to have a firearm in your own help incase of home invasion, he has decided to go out and obtain his firearm license.

We know of a few gun shops around town, and i am sure they would greatly help him obtain his license/permit, but before we go in there looking like we dont know squat about firearms, and looking like idiots, we want to know what are the Appropiate Steps/Permits to obtain first before anything?

One of my comrads who was in the military has personally told me much about firearms and the laws here in california, but i just want to be sure. I know he told me about a handgun safety instruction or something like that?

He only wants a firearm to have at home and occassionally the shooting range, we will not be doing any hunting. Thanks in advance.

how powerful is a 50 cal sniper rifle?

January 26th, 2011 by eranio

just curious, could a 50 cal sniper rifle really rip a foot wide hole in someone or is that some myth? my brother keeps claiming how powerful a 50 cal sniper rifle is and says it could rip someone’s head off if they were even shot in the neck. I just want some truth to everything he is saying.

Do gang members have military weapons?

November 11th, 2010 by eranio

I watched a documentary by Vangaurd called Fully Automatic America. The reporter showed many confiscated weapons that looked automatic and military. My brother said that those weapons only look military but they really aren’t. For instance, an AR15 is supposed to be the civilian version of the M16. I Understand that, but I wanted to know if by chance criminals have military weapons in their possession. Please list sources. Thank you!

Who would be a better shot:Someone taught to shoot at an early age, or someone taught to shoot by the military?

November 9th, 2010 by eranio

I started shooting with my brother and father when I was nine. My Dad sort of explained the front sight and the back sight and that was it. I was not the favored son, ( I was small, weak, and not incredibly masculine) so the only thing my Dad would do is scream at me if he thought I was being unsafe, when he and my brother were shooting. My Dad and Brother would have fun shooting together. I was usually dumped off in some small canyon not far away with a brick of .22 and told not to shoot in their direction. I was an "oops" baby late in my Father’s life, and he was exasperated at having to raise another kid when he was 50. I often wonder if I would be a better shot today, if instead of teaching myself how to shoot, I actually had correct instruction from the beginning.

And here is the part that made no sense to me: I had about nine years of shooting experience before I went into the Army. At 18, you could have handed me almost any gun in America, and I have a pretty good idea what it was, and how to use it. Guess who the Firearms Training Sergeants yelled at the most? Yeah. Me. They constantly kept screaming about how I stood, how I held the gun, and how I pulled the trigger. I had absolutely no problem qualifying. I wasn’t a great shot, but I could qualify, no problem. Why didn’t they yell and scream about the people who couldn’t qualify? I shot well enough to qualify the first time I fired the M16. Did it make any sense that they would scream at ME to change my style if I could qualify?

I have a homemade ghillie suit my brother made before he went into the Army. I definitely will not lie and say that I was in the military if someone asks……………….and I won’t carry a rifle.

hunting new rifles vs old rifles ?

September 8th, 2010 by eranio

From what ive heard, to get a good new rifle now a days is around 0-0 if you want something pretty good…..

My question is how does this stand up to military issued guns ? For example you can get a very very nice springfield 30-06 for 0 with a scope and a m1 garand/svt-40 for around 0 if you look around. All these guns shoot amazing and are much cheaper

My question is why do people buy new guns if the old ones are quite a bit cheaper and better ? Do people just buy him just because there new or is there another appeal ? Also which (new or old) do you recommend for hunting because a springfield 30-06 for 0 that can drop a moose sounds like anything better than I can find at academy
Yes some of the older ones do (the one my brother got for 0 doesn’t) but don’t crappy subpar 0 ones at sports stores do the same thing even worse ?

Does my brother seem interested in joining the military?

May 8th, 2010 by eranio

My younger brother is 16 and has always been fascinated with everything military. especially planes. he watches the military channel all the time, and makes ghille suits in our backyard, and likes to learn about guns and crap like that. he’s a really brave, tough kid who can endure almost anything. i’m afraid he might join after he graduates high school. i have asked him but he just shrugs. and my dad and mom won’t talk to him about it. how can i tell if he’s really interested? it upsets me.

Where does the military creed “This is my rifle” come from?

February 8th, 2010 by eranio

Not the one in Full Metal Jacket. The full version that I will add in just a second.
This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.

My rifle, without me, is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will…

My rifle and myself know that what counts in this war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit…

My rifle is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and damage as I will ever guard my legs, my arms, my eyes and my heart against damage. I will keep my rifle clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will…
Before God, I swear this creed. My rifle and myself are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. We
are the saviors of my life.

So be it, until victory is America’s and there is no enemy, but peace!
It has roots outside of the movie, moron. I just dont know where.

Do Americans really believe if the government takes the guns away it means they’re next step is fascism?

February 3rd, 2010 by eranio

Do Americans really believe their brother and neighbors in the military would turn on them?

And what would be the point to becoming a fascism? The government wouldn’t want that any more than the citizens. So why do people constantly refer to that ridiculous reason to have guns?

Ps, if or some bizarre reason the military did attack the general populace, a bunch of obese people with hand guns will not stop them.

If there are people in the US crazy enough to believe this, should they still be allowed to own a gun? Even when they talk about shooting up congress?

What is the best ‘sniper rifle’ for a girl. I have been looking at remington 308 rifles-not sure tho-?

November 16th, 2009 by eranio

I am almost 5’7, medium/slim build and do have some experience shooting rifles…I am not to bad a shot!
Here’s some more info-NOT looking to take out any person! I dont know a lot about guns, I have a friend who reloads his 308 cartridges, & said in general 308 ammo is cheaper, he said I could learn to reload my own as well, that is why I thought of going with a 308. I LOVE to target shoot, and am thinking about trying hunting deer this fall. I grew up shooting 22′s and recently shot some semi auto assult riffles of my Dads and fell in love with the power of them compared to the 22′s. I want to get something I can target shoot from long distances-I enjoy it, especially with my guy friends who like to assume I cant! I do like military guns and that is part of it too….I don’t know much about any of it however. I have been told by my boyfriend that I should stick to a 308, and that he prefers a bull barrel and synthetic stock. I like to figure stuff out on my own so I am checking other peoples opinions. Let me know if you need more info from me! And thanks for all your help!
Oh ya, almost forgot. I dont want to spend much more than 0-0.00 to start with. I know this may not include a scope.
Here is some more…my boyfriends brother just bought a remington 700, 308…I forget the rest, but it is a bull barrel, and he bought a scope for it, but it is HEAVY! He said it will kick a lot more than any gun I’ve shot yet (I havent shot that many really). Some of your answers have mentioned some different caliber rifles, what is the big deal between them and a 308? And no matter what gun I went with, would I have to take it to a gunsmith and have it adjusted correctly? It sounds like if I went with a remington I would not have to maybe, but if I went with a Salvage or another kind, I would be better off to do that. what do you all say?
