Why don't more rifles/handguns have matching calibers?

February 14th, 2011 by eranio

I was reading about how cowboys and lawmen in the past would often have the same caliber for their rifle and pistol so they could use the same ammo for each gun and eliminate confusion. Looking around though it’s pretty hard to match calibers today (ie. I have a 30/30 but can’t find a matching caliber handgun, esp in semi-auto). Seems this thing would be especially useful in places like the military. Truthfully I don’t know much about guns, but why aren’t there more options for using the same ammo for a rifle and a handgun? What do you think is the ideal matching set?

November 14th, 2010 by eranio

I think that the most populars calibers used are the 5.56 and the 7.62..
but can anyone tell me and give me info about the differences and ballistics of each? like the 5.56 nato, the 7.62×51 and the 7.62×39, or the Russian bullet..and the rifles that perform the best in each caliber..thanks!

I don't know much about civilian models of military rifles but how much would a civilian model M4 cost?

November 7th, 2010 by eranio

I am looking for a plinking rifle. bigger than my 10/22. just something to have fun with.

I have also heard you can buy different uppers recievers to fire different types calibers. so If you wanted to fire something bigger than a .223 you could do so.

Utilizing firearms: the usage of weapons or even your non-lethal? ones…?

July 23rd, 2010 by eranio

Guns have different calibers. Is it more humane, in your opinion, to use smaller or a larger caliber?

If you only want points, go away and GTFO!
If your military or a police officer, I wouldn’t mind to know your opinion, since your life is on the line via situation. Also, I understand if you don’t wish to answer so do whatever is best for you.
No asshole. There’s really no such thing, but you do have your tazers, pepper spray, or even rubber bullets or w/e!
Guns are your tools of death; sorry for your history of such. Non-lethal means are your Pepper spray, tazers, and whatever those rubber rounds are used in prisons and stuff.
Word of advice if you don’t know how your Y/A works. Don’t insult the asker. You don’t get anywhere. Not chatting, was asked to clarify my words and great example of your proper ways to ask for clarification. Thanks Bernice. Are you a troll tosser. One that insults a asker. Is this how you want to explain your sad, dear lord how much can I say: existence.
Dam! I’m a vet too, but my branch went to your .40 for a reason in comparison to just a .9 mil. I’m thinking practical. One shot is your center mass. If that doesn’t stop them. The second there not coming up for; since it’s fatal!

What round would you prefer for our standard issue service rifles other than 5.56 Nato?

April 19th, 2010 by eranio

I personally would prefer a 7.62 in an AR frame similar to the sniper rifles used by Delta. I know that is highly improbable because of the reduced amount of rounds per mag, but the extra power would be really nice. What is your opinion, and which round that is being researched for the future do you think will be implimented?
Please answer with calibers that are useable in a light service rifle. Not .50. Something like that is too heavy. This Q is for military personell with experience in shooting.
thanks for your service in nam runnin, in relation to your answer, I had 18 M16 mags, but would have settled for 6 with 7.62 b/c you dont have to shoot 3 times to kill 1 hadgi

What guns for the US Military?

November 26th, 2009 by eranio

Fighting boredom here.

Okay, here’s the scenario. The DOD has been reading your answers on the hunting section of YA and they were so impressed that they decided to hire you as their small arms consultant to completely redo their small arms inventory based on your recommendation.

So, what do you tell them? What rifle, handgun and calibers do they get? Don’t worry about money because Ben Bernanke said he will print whatever is needed. He’s got your back on this.
Great stuff everyone, and yes, if you think the current inventory is tops then let’s hear it.
