Anyone who was in the military?

I was wondering which rifle is louder, the M4 Carbine firing M855A1 5.56x45mmo or AK-47 in 7.62×39? Which sounds louder off in the distance? And don’t they each have a distinctive crack sound to them too?

what type of guns do the armed forces use to practice?

September 10th, 2010 by eranio

I’ve been watching alot of military shows and it looks like they’re using airsoft guns, but when they shoot it gives off a crack of light. Is this due to the attatchment on the end of the gun? Is it not an airsoft gun? Could they be just firing blanks? Any help would be appreciated.

In a military sense, what does a "crack" unit mean?

February 19th, 2010 by eranio

I’ve heard this mostly in historical films used.

They would say something like, "The enemy has 1000 crack rifles facing against us" or "They were attacked by crack troops of the 4th division" something like that.

What does this term mean exactly?

Thank you.

Question on military firearms?

November 26th, 2009 by eranio

Is the M4/M16 louder than the AK-47 due to the higher gas pressure and because of the higher pitched sharper crack vs the lower pitch not as sharp crack of the AK-47? I was told that the 5.56X45 is slightly louder than the 7.62X39 but not by much. But other people tell me the AK is louder so dunno.

How much louder is the 7.62X51/.308 over the 5.56/.223/7.62X39? Is it by a lot or just by a little bit?

I heard the MK-19 is not that loud. But can it still damage your hearing or no?

How loud is the AT-4, the javelin and the RPG-7?
