Because some Leader of the Executive Branch signed an Executive Order to ban all Firearms except fo the ones that the Police, and the Military use by effectively doing away with the 2nd Amendment by issuing an Executive Order.*

I decided against going to the military but I was wondering.. Since I am not a very fit person and I want to be fit and have the ability to use various kind of firearms can I enlist to be a Marine just for the training and then Quit?
I heard the U.S Marines are one of the deadliest fighting units so I want the training to toughen up myself.

I have a .410 shotgun and want to start shooting it without going to a range, but it has come to me that it might be illegal to do so, and I just want to be sure. I know differen’t counties have different rules on this and I can’t find the info for my county anywhere. I live in Sarasota county Florida, live outside the city limits, have 30 acres, know how to handle firearms safely (ex military). Is it ok for me to shoot on my property?

i need help! maybe from a current marine?. . .i want to join the military and im in between choices right now. i really want to join the marines, but the Navy is one of my choices also. Im leaning towards the marines, but there is no way I would join if i couldn’t have a job that requires me to handle firearms, like the Gunners Mate does in the Navy. is there any job that will allow me to work with guns all day in the Marine Corps? (for women)

this is only a ROUGH draft. i know it needs a lot of help. does anyone have any good ideas on how to help me?
What is a strength of America? Everyone has their options on what they think is a strength or a weakness. In my point of view the military is one of the biggest strengths America has.
The military has been around for a tremendously long time. Before 1972 conscription (also known as drafting) was used during war and during the peace. After 1972 the military is made up of volunteers willing to fight for there country. All these volunteers make the American military one of the largest militaries in the world.
First, the military has the best technology. This includes all the firearms, artillery, ammunition, armor, ground vehicles, aircraft, robots, and communications. All these technologies make it easier, and safer for the volunteers fighting in the war to come back home safely. Second, the training for a military the size we have is superior. The service members are physically, technically and psychologically trained. Depending on which branch of the military the service member may have to go on for more training. Third, after a member of the military retires from the military this person can now go the college for free, they also now have health benefits. Our military is one of the best taken care of on and off the military bass.
Serving in the military is no longer a drafting thing its pure voluntary. Many of families have lost loved ones, but its nothing to grief over. Its an honorary dead. Think of all the men and women risking their lives to keep America free and safe.

More specifically, how many small arms does each country have in its armories? I suppose that information would be protected for security, but the data must be recorded in some sort of database (can’t have lost firearms, now, can we?). If someone could find a link for me, that would absolutely fantastical. I’ve heard the UN say Europe has 16 million military small arms. They must have gotten that number from somewhere, right?
Jordan’s answer is wrong. This answer is correct, thanks to a link from Google Answers:

It’s EXACTLY what I was looking for. Thank you anyway for your concern.

Have as many high-powered firearms as you want. If a compliant military comes for you, you better believe there are going to send more than 1 guy to your front door. How effective is your AR15 against an Apache Helicopter? The key is what will the military do when an authoritarian government takes hold. Because, honestly, your pistols or semi-automatic rifles wouldn’t stop any military force for long. They don’t quit after you shoot one guy.
If every Jew in Germany answered the knock on door with a gun, the SS would have stopped knocking.
exactly, they wouldnt knowck, they would just shoot first. Its not Hitler would say "gosh, those Jews have some guns…ah forget it, lets just have American style freedom instead."

In an eerie parallel to developments in the seventh century A.D., we are seeing a proliferation of increasingly effective body armor among today’s military forces (as well as police forces.)
It is interesting to note that a thousand years of increasing social regimentation (Middle Ages,
knights owning serfs, state/church one and the same, divine right of kings ect.) only began to end with the introduction of gunpowder weapons making the heavily armored knights suddenly vulnerable to armed peasants.
Note that during the high point of the rise of democracy in the West (18th-19th centuries) body armor was practically non-existent. This was an era when armed civilians could engage professional military forces on nearly equal terms (think Lexington/Concord, ect.) As compared to other historical periods, the last 300 years has been an inconvenient time for tyrants, necessitating massive citizen disarmament to make it work as a general rule – and these regimes tend to be unstable in most cases (perhaps due to the infusion of modern, egalitarian attitudes over the last 300 years – "invincible god-king and his men" thinking is no longer to be found among civilian populations, no matter how compliant they appear to be?)
Armor is, and always has been, a friend of the elite. Firearms have tended to be their nemesis (consider the Samurai of Japan, they preferred armor and swords – which require a lifetime of training to use effectively, unlike guns – to dominate the common herd with. And dominate them they did!) AND notice how governments universally tend to hate and fear the idea of firearms in the hands of the general population… regulating who gets their hands on firearms has been an obsession of governments for 300 years now. (Gee, I wonder why..?)
Now we are in a time where increasingly effective body armor may make soldiers/police/private paramilitary goons impervious to small arms within the next 50 years. Once again, we will have a situation where governments (or petty crime bosses/private warlords with enough money to do so) will have armies of invincible enforcers – just as it was in the Middle Ages. And we can be sure that the weapons needed to defeat such armor (directed energy weapons, or heavy artillery/rockets maybe?) will be unavailable to the public not due to "gun control", but rather because only governments/paramilitary forces can afford them or have the resources to maintain them. And over time , I fear we might see a return of that "The King and His Men are God’s Ordained Proxies" mentality take hold among commoners – thus ending the West’s great experiment with liberty!
So – does the return of effective body armor threaten to push mankind into a new Dark Age? Based on history, I fear the answer is – Yes. What do you all think?

Guns technically have not much other purpose than to hunt or to harm people (out of self-defense or out of intent to physically harm). But in reality its just a tool. Guns don’t kill people, people kill people. A knife and a car could do the same thing. It might be a really redundant tool since it has no actual real life (non-violent) application besides hunting. But I still believe that guns should be legalized. Definitely not military grade small arms such as assault rifles or explosives or incendiary rounds, that should be left to the military and law enforcement.
But however I think the American gun owning populace, should really tone down the fanaticism on the type or caliber of guns they own. They don’t need an automatic AK or 50. Cal Barrett or a Silenced UZI to go hunting deer or practice shooting or home defense. That’s absolutely absurd, that’s just the machismo of the American gun-owning man, proving they have the bigger gun.
Guns are tools, and their purpose is to even the playing field. Where a 50 (5ft) kg woman can be on even terms with a 140 (6’5ft) kg criminal. I’m saying that everyone should have guns, but everyone in the right mind should have the option to have one. It’s only the stupidity and violent people in a community that can make those who guns look bad.
I’m absolutely for banning explosives (unless it’s useful in a required field), fully automatic and silenced weapons to general public but I still think people should have rights to firearm ownership and reduce the firearms allowed to no more that 3 per person. I myself own a Sig Sauer P226 40. which I shoot and the range and clean regularly. But I will never understand the kind of person that owns a 100 round AK47 and goes around blowing up propane tanks or uses a Barrett 50. Cal to hunt deer. You don’t need a chainsaw to cut your sandwich or taking a taxi to get somewhere a block away. Thanks just irresponsible and simply overdoing it. Like I said, guns are merely a tool for defense or hunting (maybe competitive marksmanship, but that doesn’t have any real day to day life value).

I work as a gunsmith, and the commute to work is down right awful. The job isn’t paying me too well to commute, so i was wondering what else kind of jobs i can get into if i got gunsmith experience? Will i be able to work for an armory in the military even though i’m not in a branch of any kind? Can i work on firearms from law enforcement, even though i’m not an officer? What kind of jobs can i get into? gunsmith skills also require having knowledge on working with machines such as mills and lathes.

China is the world’s oldest continuous civilization, in existence for more than four thousand years. In its golden age it discovered matches 700 years before Westerners, invented gunpowder, firearms, rockets, and grenades, developed the first paper from the bark of trees and the first form of wood block printing, sent ships to explore as far as South Africa…And the list goes on and on. Now it’s the world’s largest consumer with the world’s largest military (2 million), the first non-Western nuclear power, and the government wants to turn 100 universities into world class research centers, and the majority opinion is that it will be a superpower within our own lifetimes…What makes the Chinese so ahead of everyone else?
I’m not Chinese, I’m not racist…I’m just wondering.

Here’s the question, how has your luck been with 20 gauge slugs on deer in the past? Say out of a mod-choked 23" bbl? I would like to know the farthest distance you have successfully taken deer at, your preferred ammunition, and what you would consider the limits to be of your preferred ammunition.
Ok, I am going to throw in another question just for the heck of it. So we have had many questions about military rifles, and their use in military combat, the past few days from a certain member of YA! that I have always tried to be nice to and give my best answer to when they asked a question that I felt I could answer. My question is this, do you think that people should post military questions (which contain no hunting references in them) in the hunting forum and then we should get them banned for continually posting in the wrong section? Or what would you consider to be proper course of action to help better the YA! hunting forum?
Thank you Tahoe. To clarify, I am referring to the questions that are talking about the use of those firearms in combat situations, which have no hunting situations or implications.

What comes after bullets? I know conventional firearms will last very long in our military, but with 21st century technology, what comes after bullets? I’m guessing "Smart" bullets or some sort of directed energy weapon. Am I wrong or right?
Also would directed energy weapons be more effective than "Smart" bullets? I think "Smart" bullets would have a huge advantage being able to guide theirselfs to their target. Am I right or wrong?

I don’t care if you take it from a civilian or military perspective, I’m just curious. There are a million m-4′s, AR-15, now there are SCARs, the US military is looking at XM8′s right now, Bushmaster just came out with the ACR, every gun company under the sun has their version of an m4/ar15. If money is no issue, what are the pros and cons of all these straight out of the box? (feel free to add any other 5.56 nato round shooting assault rifles)
Reading the first answer I got maybe I’m not being clear. Yeah no crap about full auto not being legal, I’m not retarded, I’m not 12, I own several firearms of my own. I’m trying to find out the major pros, cons, and differences of all these new assault rifles that are on the market and that are coming out.
Ahem, once again, reading some of the answers, this is not about ammo, this is about guns, thanks
Reading more answers…..I’m NOT asking "What is an assault rifle?" I’m DO KNOW that I cannot get full auto…thanks

I am active duty military stationed in the great state of New Jersey. Being that this is New Jersey, the state with some, if not thee most ridiculous gun laws, I haven’t even bothered to purchase my firearms here. As I am from NH and still hold my NH state drivers license, I buy my firearms there, as it is one of the easiest states to purchase firearms. My question is though, what do I have to do to legally bring my weapons to NJ? Do I still have to get NJ permits and licenses? I know I have to get a firearms ID just to purchase ammo here in NJ. I mean, my weapons are registered with the FBI, it is not like they are illegal, but I do know NJ has ridiculous laws here and would prefer to not get in trouble for having ‘illegal’ (for NJ) weapons…

My brother and i have always wanted to get our gun licenses and permits since we were younger. Now that we noticed that it would be right to have a firearm in your own help incase of home invasion, he has decided to go out and obtain his firearm license.
We know of a few gun shops around town, and i am sure they would greatly help him obtain his license/permit, but before we go in there looking like we dont know squat about firearms, and looking like idiots, we want to know what are the Appropiate Steps/Permits to obtain first before anything?
One of my comrads who was in the military has personally told me much about firearms and the laws here in california, but i just want to be sure. I know he told me about a handgun safety instruction or something like that?
He only wants a firearm to have at home and occassionally the shooting range, we will not be doing any hunting. Thanks in advance.

Well, I just read an answer that said:
"The main reason for the 2nd Amendment is to prevent tyranny in Government."
- Thomas Jefferson
my question is, based soley on this reason, does the 2nd amendement make any sense any more….if therers a military coup, and america is put under an oppressive military dictatorship, how do we fight the military with the basic firearms we’re allowed to have? thoughts?

My eyes haven’t really ever been the best throughout my life time. I’m 16, and my left eye was what they called a "Lazy eye" and now that I’ve gotten older, it’s gotten a lot better. Not perfect, really, but better and sometimes when I’m watching shows or playing games, etc, my left eye would almost come in to focus and I could see part of whatever I’m watching with my left eye. I believe, if I’m right, my left eye is now 20/60 and my right eye is 20/40 or something. I don’t think I’ll ever be out in the battlefield in say Afghanistan or something, I’d like to be.. But I’m sure it’s not that great at all, I just wanna feel like I’ve done something for my country. Now, me with bad eyesight: What kind of, I guess you’d say, career could I have in the military? Maybe a medic or something? But I don’t know anything about that. I don’t know which branch I wanna join, either. I’ve mostly been thinking USMC or the Army. If I had a job in the Army or USMC that doesn’t require shooting, etc, could I still rank up and would I be required to take some kind of physical training (I’m pretty sure everyone would have to do that, I’m just making sure what kind of physical training!) and training in firearms? (e.g. Being able to hold maybe a pistol or something for protection if I were at a base in Afghanistan). Also, what kind of eyesight would you need to join the military, anything specific?

I am an Australian who is also a member of the Australian Military. I am astounded to see the state of affairs with weapons in the USA. The arguments for firearms are coming from people who clearly have no idea what they are talking about. I saw one person say "However, each year gun-wielding citizens kill between 2,000 and 3,000 criminals in self-defense, an astounding three times the number killed by police." The idea that "killing" criminals is a good thing is totally sick minded and insane. The police don’t go out bounty hunting criminals they try to stop crime and kill only as an absolute last resort. That shows that the police are at least half competent at finding resolutions to crime that don’t involve slaughtering thousands of petty criminals. If anything that statistic shows the lack of proper training or respect American civilians have for firearms. One of the most frustrating things by far is seeing American civilians with assault weapons who have no idea what they are doing. They regard the safety on and not pointing the weapon at people as sufficient to ensure safety. Regularly I see them with their fingers inside the trigger guard swinging the weapon around like I would expect a toddler with a water pistol to act. I seriously cannot believe that people think this is sensible. Australia has some of the tightest weapon restrictions on the planet and I am thankful I live here. It is not violent crime with firearms that concerns me. It is the monumental amount of people killed accidentally in America from incompetent fools handling firearms much more deadly than anything they should have access to. Americans also seem to have the idea that shooting is a "fun" and "recreational" thing to do. Shooting is designed to kill, it is not fun, it is a horrible necessity of the world we live in and only people who have had no experience with the horrific real world use of firearms would think of them as fun.
The idea that having a country full of people with assault weapons for self defense is insane. Essentially the only way to ensure you have any degree of safety in America in your home is to arm yourself to the teeth. I don’t want to have my house full of firearms! Is that fair? I have had enough of firearms! If I never saw another firearm in my entire life I would be a happy man! In Australia break and enters are much safer. The person breaking into your house knows he isn’t going to run into a redneck nutcase with an M16 so he doesn’t bother with a firearm he brings a knife. Since people have home and contents insurance if a robbery does occur no one gets hurt and hopefully the police will find the offender and arrest him and since the police have firearms and the offender doesn’t no one gets hurt and the offender surrenders. This is the reality in Australia not a fairy tale! Look at the statistics! Sure there is still armed gang crime in Australia but they tend to stick to themselves it is the normal civilian populous that I am worried about.
I say again, I have had enough of firearms. I don’t want to see another firearm in my entire life. Is it fair to expect that the only way I will be able to ensure my safety is to arm myself to the teeth in my own home? Don’t tell me that that is the only way my own country is a beacon to prove that is not the case.
Am I the only one?
Steven F: I couldn’t care less if you think an assault weapon is a fraudulent concept that’s what they were called and that’s definitely what they were used for so don’t insult my service with your pathetic semantics you insolent bastard.
Icr000: You also managed to have a bloody war amongst yourselves. You have a point, your country is simply not ready for peace yet.

Watch any film noir movie like "The Big Sleep" starring Humphrey Bogart and everyone holds their pistol by their waste with their elbow bent. Was this the way military and police held their firearms during the 1940′s and 1950′s or was this Hollywood’s interpretation? Nowadays we have professional consultants on set for medical, military and scientific scenes.
Yes, sorry the correct spelling of "waste" is "waist". Seems you are not allowed to edit after posting.

Also what round / firearm combo would you use for home defense & which combo for self defense?
I am A military vet, trained in firearm safety and shooting. but I know little of firearms outside of riffles. I have safety classes set up before I purchase my first firearm , I just would like to get some opinions from others more knowledgeable than I.
Thank you in advance.
