Why do we tolerate gangs in America in the first place?

November 12th, 2010 by eranio

This seems really dumb. Other countries don’t have nearly the gang problems we do.

In Singapore, if a group of people tried to form a "gang," and walked around with firearms committing crimes, the military would round them up (shooting those who resist), and the rest would be hanged.

Why don’t we do this in America?

Instead, we have entire cities like New Orleans that are urban warzones, or cities like Chicago where six people are shot dead in a single night.

That’s ridiculous. Let’s just deploy the military, round these scumbags up, beat confessions out of them, then hang them the next morning.

Why are we such cowards in America? Why do we let the criminals win?

I want to join the military and took the AVSAB practice test. Personal history DQ'd for Corpsmen option.?

November 12th, 2010 by eranio

I got an 80 on the practice test and the Navy recruiter said that it was good.
I told him I wanted to do Hospital Corpsmen and he said that since I was arrested (not convicted, not on record) when I was 15 for marijuana that I would be disqualified from that (as they are responsible for drugs/anesthetics).
It was kind of a disappointment since I’ve been a straight edge kid for six years (in fact, since that day I haven’t smoked a cigarette or taken a sip of alcohol, I am very against drug use).
He said there was no waiver or process to even request a waiver in that situation.
He said I could enlist and after two years request to switch over to Corpsmen though and that it wouldn’t be that hard as long as they had room for more Corpsmen.
My intention was to be a Corpsmen and then be attached to a Marine Corps infantry unit.
This was I could experience the sea and ground. And help Marines in combat survive.

Anyway, assuming I score an 80 percentile on the actual ASVAB and my line scores are solid, what other similar or interesting jobs would I still qualify for besides Corpsmen while waiting for the change to lateral into it?
Anything on the ground or fixing/manning guns/artillery on a ship?
(I’m not just looking to shoot people/things, I just happen to be a firearms enthusiast and fixing guns is one thing that I’m actually pretty good at, besides writing and reading.)

Would I be better off seeing what the Army could do for me? I really had my heart set on being a Corpsmen attached to a Marine unit though….

Are Blanks Entirely Harmless?

November 10th, 2010 by eranio

I understand this is not a military question but I figure people here might know about firearms.

We’re shooting an indie film for my freshman year at film school and one of our crew is using a gun with blanks; a 9mm.

Are blanks entirely harmless? I know nothing comes out of them but I’m still afraid of it.

AR-10 how reliable are they in bad conditions?

November 8th, 2010 by eranio

I am looking at buying an AR-10, probably a DPMS or Armalight, for an all around rifle (personal defense, hunting, zombie attack etc.). I want the AR-10 over the 15 because of the added knock down power of the .308. Many people have recommended an AR style rifles for their accuracy and reliability, and to be the "go to" firearm for the US Military it has to be good.

The only bad thing I have heard from AR users, both civilian and military, is that if it gets the slightest amount of dirt in it it will malfunction horribly. I was wondering if any one had any input on this. I know that with proper and regular cleaning most guns will behave properly but if I were stuck out in the woods for a few weeks without a cleaning kit would I be in trouble with an AR? If so would there be an alternative any one would suggest in or under the ,500 range that would have the same or similar stopping power and tactical accessory options (rails for lights and optics etc.)?

P.S.
I really want to steer away from the Kalashnikov family. I have heard too many stories of people loosing self defense cases due to the negative stigma surrounding the firearms because of their history of being used by the "other side" in so many of the conflicts that our country has been involved with over the last half century or so. That said I think the AK and their clones and variants are excellent and reliable firearms.
Thanks Mack…Tho that reminds me, How do they do with water. Obviously Im not gonna go swimming with it but do are they ok with brief exposure to the wet stuff? Im thinking river crossing or a canoe overturning.
Thanks Chris. I am kinda sold on the .308 but would a similar upgrade be a good idea, or even help, in the AR-10 ( sorry I have little experience with gas powered firearms)? I have used a .308 and the recoil and follow up time is not bad at all for me so that’s not really a concern.

Why are people so big on Gun Control? What has Gun bans really done, but really disarm innocent civilians?

November 8th, 2010 by eranio

if gun control works so well, what about new york? they have a big crime problem and still have gun control. No the majority of gun violence isnt from citizens who buy from a licensened federal dealer but when they steal from honest citizens via burglary in home, office or car. but mostly through illegal guns on the black market. but think about this. if all the citizens have their firearms removed and only the Police and military are armed then what is the result? Its called a Police state. is that a smart move? sounds a little totalitarian to me. also, for the rural areas where Police have a longer response time? How could u defend your life or loved one’s lives? what just reason with a rapist/mugger burglar not to hurt you? beg them to be nice until police arrive? how about the thousands of cases where just the PRESENCE of a firearm detered a violent assualt or murder or rape?! the biased news media wont tell you that will they? 2nd amendment rights!

Why do gangstas hold their guns sideways?

November 5th, 2010 by eranio

I have fired a few shots in my life and I have come to realize that firing a pistol in this fashion is not very effective. I think if it were, we would see military and police training their members to do this.

I think we should sponsor free firearms lessons for gangbangers, maybe then they would be able to hit each other more, and not injure so many innocent bystanders.

Do guns kill people or do people kill people?

November 3rd, 2010 by eranio

Pennsylvania: An auxiliary officer for a local police department was killed when a machine gun discharged at a private gun show in Blair County.Michael Kurty, 36, of Hollidaysburg, was killed Wednesday night during a gun expo at the Hollidaysburg Sportsmen’s Club.

Police said a Gatling mini-gun attached to a Humvee fired a few thousand rounds earlier in the evening before it discharged and released a fatal shot to Kurty’s head.

""What appears to have happened is there was some sort of a jam and when they were trying to clear the jam is when the gun actually went off," said Pennsylvania State Police trooper Jeff Petucci.

A military official was expected to disarm the Humvee on Thursday.

Officials said Kurty was proficient in all types of firearms and conducted training for many local police departments."

Where near Kansas City, can I film in a forest using a prop gun?

November 2nd, 2010 by eranio

I am a film student located in Kansas City, and I am filming a project very soon. I need a public forest that would be good for filming in using a prop gun and some guys in military garb. The parks that I have contacted have stone-walled any filming with firearms of any kind. So I need some good public forest areas that I could film in using fake weapons. Any suggestions??

Hand guns and hitting what you are aiming at?

November 1st, 2010 by eranio

I am 68 years old and looking for my first hand gun for protection. I learned to shoot and handle firearms in the military. I believe I can get a permit to carry a conceled weapon. I have read that even experienced officers are lucky to hit a barn using a full 9 mm at 5 feet when the "juices" are flowing. If I shoot, I want to hit whoever I’m shooting at and I want them to fall down and go boom! They have a lot of stuff on tv using lazer sights. It looks like pointing your weapon like a flashlight and you hit where the light is, without even using sights on the gun. Is that true? What kind of weapon and gear do I need. By the way I will NOT stand around waving my weapon til someone takes it away from me and jams it …

Would this be an alternative to Universal Health Care or Socialized Medicine?

October 29th, 2010 by eranio

Most reasons we end up needing health care are preventable.
Too fat and out of shape, leads to high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, heart disease, etc.
Wouldn’t it be better to help people get exercise and eat better foods?
AIDS sickens (and kills) lots of people. Needles for junkies, or drug rehab programs; lot’s of subsidized rubbers if you can’t afford them. End this culture of sex and promiscuity, AIDS goes way down.
Car accidents injure (and kill) a lot of people. Crack down on drunk and drugged driving, aggressive driving, no seat belts. Less accidents is a good thing.
Gun violence. End the gun culture. Too much access to cheap firearms of a military style. Only sporting arms, all registered, all secured. With rights comes RESPONSIBILITY.
Smoking sickens and kills many people. While you maybe shouldn’t ban cigarettes, they are too cheap and too advertised. Let smokers pay for their own health care.
Bottom line, much of the money spent on healthcare is from PREVENTABLE causes.
Why not take care of these problems at the root cause? That would be bad news for the health care industry.

Why do adults always treat me like crap?

October 28th, 2010 by eranio

I am 25, I graduated from a very good college. I have never done drugs, and don’t drink. I am very clean cut and because I run a lot I have very low body fat and am not muscular. I am about 5’6" and less than 160 pounds soaking wet.

I work in the retail business and run my family’s stores. I have done this since I was 18. It never fails that people think they can pick on me. Adults always talk to me like I am stupid and try to take advantage of me. They never believe that I am not in high school or that I own the own business.
When I have to be assertive at work or in my life people think they can physically intimidate me. I have had guys literally square off to me and try to fight me.

The worst part is that due to my business I handle a TON of cash and am allowed to be armed by the police. I am always carrying a gun and have done a ton of firearms training (with military and law enforcement) as well as a bit of martial arts training. I DO NOT want to get into a fistfight with people because they are going to get hurt very bad.

Should I grow a beard?

Silver Stars without Champagne: Why is the legal drinking age 21?

October 27th, 2010 by eranio

In the United State, citizens get more rights as they get older: When one turns 16, they can get a provisional drivers license. At 18, they become "legal adults" and they get the right to buy firearms (but not handguns), pornography, tobacco, spray paint, lottery tickets, and most importantly, the right to vote and the right to serve in the military.

Now why is it that an 18 year old can join the military, recieve Silver Stars and Purple Hearts for valor in combat, but cant come home and go to a bar in downtown Washington, DC? How come the US government can trust the 18-21 age group with owning firearms, bearing the burden on defending freedom, and choosing the nation’s leaders but can’t trust them with the responsibilty of drinking alcohol? What is the reasoning behing this logic and why did the US government change the law back in the 70′s from 18 to 21? Why did the government feel they had to hold federal highway funds from states that didn’t obey?
And for all the morons who don’t know anything about anything… Purple Hearts are awarded for being WOUNDED in combat, not necessarily dying (but you do get one for that, too) My 83 year old grandfather and former 101st Airborne paratrooper recieved two.

The question is why can an 18 year old enlist in the Marines, serve 2 tours in Iraq, get his arm blown off, and not be able to come back home and have a drink? Why am I able to choose the leaders of my country but not be able to have a drink? Doesn’t it seem to you that the legal drinking age is suspiciously misplaced when compared to the more serious right you get when you are younger?

Would Jesus own a firearm if he was living as a man in today's world?

October 26th, 2010 by eranio

In the New Testament, Jesus chastised those who took up arms to fight. He berated Barabas and asked him to forgive the Romans and to love his enemies. Jesus also spoke harshly to Peter for chopping off the ear of the guard who seized him and healed the man’s ear.
Yet today, many people who call themselves followers of Jesus Christ carry firearms. They hunt animals for sport, killing deer and bear for the thrill of the kill. Some of have killed people, and through some technicality in the law, are now free and worship in Christian churches unashamed.
What part of thou shalt not kill allows for carrying firearms and using them repeatedly?
If Jesus were to transcend himself again, would he join the military, stock his home with firearms, and explain away all manner and form of how to "kill" has exceptions to it?
How the Greeks have different words for taking a life in battle, as opposed to self defense, as opposed to murder. How this is true in other languages besides English.
And so they put their own personal caveat into God’s Law to ease their minds and justify their actions.
Can we say that to steal of a man is hungry is different than when a man is not hungry?
Therefore, can we say that to kill with a cause is different than when a man has no cause? Is the blood of his victim a different color in each case?
Barabas called himself a patriot who was defending his home and his nation of Israel.
Jesus said love your enemies and forgive those who persecute you.
If a man slaps you in the cheek, turn the other cheek.
Those who take up the sword, shall perish by the sword.
The sword, the gun, a rock, it’s all killing and it’s all immoral, shameful and damnable.
The Amish are pacifists. They say that they follow this Christian teaching.
How do you call yourself a Christian also, yet do not obey God’s commandment
Thou Shalt Not Kill?
Jesus also was a friend of Mary Magdeleine. Does that mean that he condoned prostitution? Jesus never killed anyone and he berated those who took arms even to defend themselves and their loved ones.
How can you go around killing and call yourself a Christian?

U.S. Army or the Marines Corps?

October 25th, 2010 by eranio

I’m a 17 year old eagle scout from a upper middle class portion Long Island with a 3.5 gpa. I have no desire to go into college and I actually want to join some form of military to assist those who are defending our freedom. I feel as if I live in an incredibly sheltered life and I just want to get away from it all. I’ve got mixed philosophies about life ranging from nihilism, what might be viewed communism, existentialism, and agnosticism. I’ve grown a large interest in firearms and the military in general. Can someone maybe talk to me about this or give me a suggestion as to where I should go with this? my sn is JMCarroll1991 if you want to im me.
I appriecate the answers but a little detail would be nice.
Half bro is in the marines by the way, really put his life on track. He is currently enrolled in the New York City police acedemy.
I’ll define my social beliefs to clear it up a bit.

Nihilist: everything is based on perception and therefore there is only nothing. I usually seek a means out of this mind set by devoting large amount of thought to specific subjects.

Communist: I believe people are all equal and all are thus all worthy of respect. I believe that people are all basically the same, with only our backgrounds and how we grew up making us who we are.

Existentialist: We live, we die. Why not try to get the most out of it. Religion is simply a lie to give us some type of false sense of purpose. Life should be about achieving personal goals above all.

Why are guns legal?????

October 23rd, 2010 by eranio

As far as i can tell there are many answers to this question but there are a few that completely confuse me. The first is to keep our government in check, I don’t understand how even a large population armed to the teeth is supposed to fight a government that has enough nukes to blow up the entire planet. Second is self protection, we have all heard about the horrible crimes committed every day yet the stories of people successfully protecting themselves with firearms are few and far between. Another reason i have heard deals with protecting our country from foreign invasion, I don’t think the redcoats are coming back any time soon. Now don’t get all pissy with me if you are pro-gun because I don’t want to take them away from you I just don’t see the reason for so many guns in this country. I can see if you are a businessman transporting large amounts of money or if you are a hunter and want to own a hunting rifle or shot gun or military and police and you want a personal firearm to take to the range, but why should anyone that wants an assault rifle or powerful concealable handgun be able to get one especially if there is no need for them to own it other than just to have a collection.
I was being sarcastic with the nuke thing I guess i meant the most powerful military in the world which could easily control imports and exports, air space, etc.. As far as protection from foriegn invasion I don’t think any country would be foolish enough to try an actual all out invasion. I think a war of that magnitute would probobly involve the U.S. against another nuclear nation and an armed population wouldn’t matter in that case my point about that is that the days of Napoleon and the Redcoats are over I think the framers of the constitution realized the need for an armed militia but if they new that we would someday be this powerful they would have rethought the need for a completely armed population for protection.
I don’t agree with the notion that if a thief was going to break into a house he wouldn’t rob a gun owners house stolen guns are very easily sold for quick cash making a gun owners house even more tempting.
I like the argument about liveing in a rural area and owning a gun for protection that’s a very good reasonable point. Now for the gun owner that has a gun for protection when the police are minutes away (large population city setting) I don’t quite agree with, because if you are a responsible gun owner that has a gun locked away in a safe place how would you get to that gun at a moments notice especialy if your house is broken into unexpectedly.
People that successfully protect themselves with a gun wouldn’t be on the news??? Have you seen the news lately??? I think the news would eat a story like that up.

Millionaire plaintiff vs. national unconstitutional gun control law? Who wins?

October 22nd, 2010 by eranio

The unconstitutional gun control law I do not agree with is the Firearm Owner’s Protection Act of 1986 aka "Restricting machine gun ownership for law abiding citizens law". I believe that this gun control law can be defeated through our court system. I am surprised to know that the NRA has not done anything to overturn it. I am surprised to know that it was a private citizen from the Cato Institute, Mr. Levy, who stood up in court and defeated the unreasonable gun control laws of Washington D.C.
I have told God that if I become rich within my lifetime, I will fight this unconstitutional law in court, hire the best of the best attorneys, and overturn it by legal means. Criminals do not obey the law and they own machine guns, this law makes it very hard and extremely expensive for good law abiding citizens to own a fully automatic firearm. I want every citizen to be able to fully exercise his rights and to have the choice to own the same firearms that our military has. If God blesses me with more wealth and I take this to court? Who do you think will win?

How do I know if a man is a metrosexual?

October 17th, 2010 by eranio

I’m seeing this one man, he usually is very up to date with fashion, dress neatly, have his body and arms waxed, and have ton of personal hygiene products such as lotion, hair products, and other things. He like to cook, read a lot and keep his place totally spotless and looking very neat.

On other hand he do boxing, wrestling, and several other martial arts, rock climbing, shooting, collect firearms, travel to third world or offbeat routine, and studies about military and history. He have a lot scars as well.

He show a lot of affectionate when he’s around me but he’s usually aloof and cold toward others.

Is he actually a metrosexual or not? I really don’t want to date a guy who will turn out like all those whinny metrosexual feminie guys.

October 11th, 2010 by eranio
