do shotguns used in law enforcement or military typically fire shells or single projectile slugs?

June 6th, 2010 by eranio

and is it true that a shotgun is typically more powerful at close range than an assult rifle? if so, what makes this so. i’d expect the weapon with more range to be more powerful. if not, what is the purpose of using a shotgun as opposed to a handgun?

Can you keep your weapons after you retire from the military?

June 1st, 2010 by eranio

if i’m not mistaken in the military they give you your weapons (infantry, scouts, snipers etc), so if you’re a sniper, or an infantryman and after 8-12 years you retire can you keep you’re rifle and handgun for hunting and other recreational activities?

Be serious, no answers involving your muscles or video games. And keep the pacifist anti-gun stuff to yourself.
Mine are:
Sniper-Barrett m98bravo or xm500
Assault-FN SCAR Mk17 standard w/ Mk13 gren launcher
SMG-KRISS .45
Shotgun-AA12
Machine gun-249SAW
Handgun-kimber 1911 or glock 21

Is it bad to gain shooting skills before you enter the military?

May 14th, 2010 by eranio

I would like to buy a rifle and handgun to learn learn how to fire, but I was once told by an ex soldier that you don’t want to learn how to shoot the wrong way. I really don’t want to mess up my chances for certain positions because I was stupid enough to learn differently then what some military branches teach you.

In the military and trying to buy a firearm in the state I’m assigned to?

March 15th, 2010 by eranio

I’m trying to buy a firearm in Missouri, but federal law requires you to show a government issued ID that proves that you have resided in the state that you’re purchasing a firearm from for at least 30 days. My question is being in the military is there anyway around that because I have an Oklahoma driver’s license with an Oklahoma residence on it? According to law it looks as if I can’t even purchase one in Oklahoma either because I am currently residing here in Missouri. The only thing I can think of is bring some bills with me and maybe a copy of the lease which I’m having trouble finding at the moment. The bills I do have I noticed that it only has my address on the stub that you mail in which I already mailed in my last set of bills, so what do I do? Please help!

Thanks,

Justin
I can’t believe I didn’t think of my LES, but when I checked it just now it’s only showing the address on my most recent one and I think I need one from at least 30 days ago. As for my PCS orders I’ll have to look around for them, but I’m sure I have them some where.

By the way, for whoever asked, I’m a SrA in the USAF here at Whiteman. I don’t think you can check out firearms at our BX, outdoor rec, or our armory or I would of heard of it by now for the 3 years I’ve been here do to all the hunters in my section. Our range is for OFUO I believe some bases have rec ranges. Anyways, thanks everyone for all the good insight. I think I’ll go look for my orders so I can possibly get my handgun tomorrow.
I can’t find my orders, so I’m gonna print my LES from 30 days ago since I noticed it has the zip code that it’s based on at the bottom and hopefully that will work for me. If not, I’ll just go to my MPF this week and hopefully purchase an XDM next weekend if the store still has them.
I went to the store today and I asked them this same question and they said there is a new law that became in effect about a year ago stating that the only way I can buy a firearm here in Missouri is that I have to have a photo ID that matches my current address no matter if I’m military or not to purchase a firearm. But I believe it is only another stupid Missouri law, so I guess I’ll have to drive down to Oklahoma and buy it there.

How do I legally move my guns with me from Nebraska to Texas?

February 12th, 2010 by eranio

I’m in the military and I was given a couple of rifles and a handgun when my grandfather pasted away. The guns have been stored with my father in nebraska for years because I have been stationed overseas. The guns are not registered that I know of and a couple are older. I would like to have them with me when I get stationed in Texas this summer.

Texas firearm purchase rules for military?

February 6th, 2010 by eranio

Before I deployed to Iraq out of Ft.Hood I bought a couple of rifles. I am still in Iraq,am active duty. When i get back can i still buy firearms like i used to before i went. To clarify I was able to go to the gun store and show my military ID and orders proving I am stationed in Texas. Is this still the norm for military buyers at gun stores? Do all gun stores do this. Will i be still able to go with my orders and id card and buy firearms?
Whats this i hear about having to get CHL just to buy a handgun? I have no intention on concealed carrying mine. Don’t you just have to be 21 to buy a handgun. I heard of a waiting period now too.

Can I buy handgun if I’m 18 but I’m in the military?

January 27th, 2010 by eranio

I read the gun laws in California and they say you cannot own a handgun at 18. However, if I’m in the military, I am still using firearms so it shouldn’t matter if I owned a handgun. Should it?

Why does the government allow assault rifles and shotguns to be sold? I understand handguns but why the others

December 30th, 2009 by eranio

I don’t think people should be allowed to own assault rifles, snipers, and shotguns because those are just mean to fully kill. A standard handgun is ok but why sell military class weapons?

How do I Sell Rifles & Transport a Handgun?

December 18th, 2009 by eranio

I inherited 2 rifles (a single and double barrel) and a hand gun from my father, when he passed away.

The story about them, as I understand it, goes like this:

A friend of his, was diagnosed with Cancer and did not want the rifles around, so he gave them to my father to "hold onto" for him. When he died, my father tried to give the rifles back to his son, who did not want anything to do with them and said keep them. That was almost 2 years ago.

The only documentation I have is some papers from the military that discharges the two rifles to my dad’s friend, years and years ago.

Now, I’ve got them and will be moving from California to Pennsylvania in about two weeks. What should I do with the rifles? Can I sell them? Pawn them?

Now, there is also a handgun that was my father’s. I want to keep that, and take it with me. Is there anything I need to do ahead of time or do I just take it with me when I drive cross-country?

Thanks in advance for any advice!!

If you are in the Military are you allowed to carry a firearm?

December 16th, 2009 by eranio

I am talking about off duty, or on duty. If you are in a uniform or traveling are you allowed to carry a personal handgun?

What guns for the US Military?

November 26th, 2009 by eranio

Fighting boredom here.

Okay, here’s the scenario. The DOD has been reading your answers on the hunting section of YA and they were so impressed that they decided to hire you as their small arms consultant to completely redo their small arms inventory based on your recommendation.

So, what do you tell them? What rifle, handgun and calibers do they get? Don’t worry about money because Ben Bernanke said he will print whatever is needed. He’s got your back on this.
Great stuff everyone, and yes, if you think the current inventory is tops then let’s hear it.

is the only way to use assault rifles and other weapons like that by joining the military?

November 18th, 2009 by eranio

sometimes i think people just join because its cool using the guns rather than pride for their country, lol. not saying anyone could buy them but say like a gun collector or maybe having a permit or license like how owning a handgun or shotgun is for hunting and things like that? i wouldnt even care if the assault rifle was loaded or not i would just be happy having the real thing. is it possible? thanks.

Are tactical sniper rifles illegal to own?

November 11th, 2009 by eranio

I was wondering if sniper rifles fell under the class III or whatever category. Or is it easier to get like a handgun? Thanks for all the help in advance! =]

The kind I’m talking about is the m40a3 and the likes.
