What are some recent scientific breakthroughs and developments that could be applied to military/espionage?

I am a writer trying to brainstorm special tools and equipment for my main character. The main character is sort of like of secret agent. What are some recent breakthroughs and developments in science that might be useful to such a character? I am looking for things relating body armor, fabrics, less-than-lethal weapons, communications equipment and whatever a battle ready spy might need.

What kind of less the lethal weapons does the US military use?

Does the US military use less than lethal weapons?

i know military police might, but aside from them, does our military use any less than lethal weapons?
I know in combat, where you need to destroy the enemy , you wouldn’t need LTL weapons.

but i am saying, like maybe a UAV or something spotted some high value targets that we could use to better our selves in war, but they are heavily armed, but we do not want to kill them,

sounds weird , but what if there was a situation like that.
