So far from what I know, is that Army Rangers are the only force to be using this new rifle (Replacement to M4/M16). I could be wrong, I’m just going on what I heard and read about in articles. I was wondering if any other service members have been using it such as regular infantry (Marines or Army) or any other spec ops like PJ’s, SEALs or Force Recon.
And I would also like to know when you think it will be a standard issued weapon to regular service members besides special operation units.

weapons on their standard infantry guns. For example the US military and NATO nations predominantly use the 5.56mm round instead of the7.62mm round.M16 and M9 are preferred and phased out the M14 and G3 rifles.
Joshua the M16 has a burst fire mode that guarantees a kill the M4 has a fully automatic mode. Like you said most sniper guns like the M24 use the 7.62 round
Joshua machineguns are used for cover fire but they do have to be effective. The M240 are seeing more use than the M249. M240 uses the 7.62 round and the M249 5.56.Difference in ammo capacity is 100 vs 200 rounds

Im interested in buying an AR15 or M4. I’ll target shoot with it (not competitivley) and probably wont use it to defend the home (got the Mossberg 500 for that
but its one of those gotta have guns and im looking for a rifle in .223 anyway, so might as well consider these. Theres so many variations, but im looking for one of the ones thats clean and generic of a military version. Im not really looking for an all out custom crazy look that some of the upper end ones have that end up costing 1500- infinity dollars. I know i can expect less accuracy farther out with the M4, but personally, I like the way to looks…….Any thoughts opinions on different makers, what company to stay away from, which to buy from etc etc. Half of the fun in buying a new gun is researching and learning something of what everyone else knows. Thanks for any serious input, anyone who says get the AK47 you’re truly worthless.

Fist of all how many men are in a platoon and how many are in a company? How common is the M240 machine gun in a platoon/company?
And secondly is the M4/M16 and AK-47 both equally loud but with a distinctive sound? And which is louder at a distance?

What changes can I expect in the US Military by the time I join around 2016? A new Combat rifle replacing The M16/M4? Better technology, giving more power to Infantry and units?
Or not much at all… your thoughts?

Hey every one,
This is my first question on yahoo. I’m 20 years old, and want to be a police officer. Its a long process, and I got really far into it. Things where looking good, and promising, tell I was notified today that I was not going to be considered for the job. I cant reapply for two years now.
On that note, I am really thinking about joining the military. I shoot on a tactical rifle team (with M4′s and such things) and our team also shoots Airsoft for training. I like helping people, and as always the guns and toys. Although I was thinking of the Army, all my team members (who most have been airforce) tell me I don’t want to join the army, and the airfoce is the way to go.
My biggest fear of joining the airfoce is that Ill be stuck some where in the green zone and not get to do anything. No one wants to get shot at, but I do want to see some action.
Every one talks about how much better everything is in the Airfoce. Is the Army really that bad?
Ill also add that I have my GED and my COMP TIA A+ (although I’m not that interested and doing computers in the military) I didn’t have any problems passing the agility tests for the police force, and when maxing out, come very close to the airfoce requirements for max points.
any info and feed back from you all will really help.
Thanks,

I asked earlier preference between M4/M16 and M1A and someone said that the M4 is classified as an assault rifle and the M1A as a battle rifle.

I want to buy either an M4 or an AR-15. I was wandering where I can purchase one of these guns. My credit is above 750, I am white, and I have some money saved up. I just want the gun for personal use and family protection (I am looking at worse case scenario with the state the nation is in right now)
Just stating my ethnicity. Hell, if I was Muslim, it would be a red flag to most people. I am as equal as they come. To answer your question, no criminal record.

The article indicates that the M4 has been failing at the worst times during heated battles. If so, then what gun should our military be issued?
@shadow: would an AK fail under similar circumstances?
The Galil combines reliability and accuracy.

The military has needed a new rifle for a while now. The soldiers have been saying it. Many of the top brass have been saying it. There have been better alternatives to the M16/M4 for many years now, even simple upper receiver swaps that would improve the current system dramatically. So why is this test even necessary?

Haven’t the last four decades been test enough?
If it was up to me, I would go for the Magpul Masada.

I’ve learned from multiple military sources that the M16 and M4 are the current infantry rifles issued to soldiers in the American Military. I assume this applies to both the Marines and Army. However, I’m curious as to why these two weapons are both circulated through the military, and in what quantity they’re present in, respectively. Of the two, which is more common for a soldier to be issued?

I realize that many soldiers use the m4 or m16 but do they have any red dots or scopes? Or is the specializations only for certain situations or certain military groups.
P.S i dont play video games i want to know certain information to enlist.
i need to know this for safety reasons. i believe todays technology, equipment and specializations could save anybodys life
A red dot will increase your accuracy by a whole lot making the enemy being killed before you. I consider that as being a safe item.

I’m 18 years old and I live in Gainesville, Florida, can I legally go to the local surplus store and buy an assault rifle (M4, P90, AKs and such)??? or Do I have to be 21 in order to do that. Same question with the ammo.
I’m not planning to buy one soon, I’m just curious bout the laws.

I was in the military and just got out, I would want something similar to my government issued M4. I believe that would be an AR15, I would also be interested in an AK47. Is there a certain manufacter, store, or website to check out? Is there one to avoid? Thanks

If a person is ranked higher in the military would they have a choice of what kind of weapon(of the available ones) or do they have to use a standard one? Also, can they personalize their weapon to their liking with certain scopes and what not?
I mean general soldiers and much so if you’re a captain or such would you be able to choose between an m16 or m4, maybe possibly choose a different weapon class like an smg

The Colt M5 was one of 3 rifles that Colt entered into the SCAR competition a few years back. Since then they have refined it into what they now call the LE1020. They plan (or planned) to market the rifle to law enforcement teams.
Have any agency (military or law enforcement) put serious thought into purchasing this weapon or placed an order for it?
Are any military units using it (in however sparing numbers) like the HK 416? Will it be in any more military trials, like the competirion between the M4 and the FN SCAR and HK 416?
IS IT FINISHED???

I’ve known many people who’ve kept their weapons, such as M4′s, M14′s, Garands, and service pistols from the military, and I’ve asked around if those are still government property or yours to keep. I’m under the impression that the weapon must be licensed to you during wartime in order for you to "own" it. Anyway, I’ve been looking around for an answer. Thanks, and any answer is appreciated!

I read up on this and I saw that the Bushmaster Adaptive Combat Rifle (ACR) Assault Rifle is replacing the M4 in the second quarter of the military in 2010. Is this true?
The M4 is definitely not ancient, esecially compared to the M1911 (Colt .45), which was in service in 1911 and is still being used now.
The Army Rangers use both the M4 and the Scar
The M4 came out in 1997
