Do people really think fully automatic weapons are readily available in the United States?

January 26th, 2011 by eranio

The NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT was passed in 1934 and HEAVILY restricted several classes of weapons.
The Act defines a number of categories of regulated firearms. These weapons are collectively known as NFA firearms and include the following:

Machine guns – this includes any firearm which can fire more than 1 cartridge per trigger pull. Both continuous fully-automatic fire and "burst fire" (i.e., firearms with a 3-round burst feature) are considered machine gun features. The weapon’s receiver is by itself considered to be a regulated firearm. Courts have held that where a worn firearm malfunctions in such a way as to fire multiple cartridges one or more times, this makes it a machine gun.

Short barreled rifles (SBRs) – this category includes any firearm with a buttstock and either a rifled barrel under 16" long or an overall length under 26". The overall length is measured with any folding or collapsing stocks in the extended position. The category also includes firearms which came from the factory with a buttstock that was later removed by a third party.

Short barreled shotguns (SBSs) – this category is defined similarly to SBRs, but the length limit for the barrel is 18" instead of 16", and the barrel must be a smoothbore. The minimum overall length limit remains 26".

Suppressors – this includes any portable device designed to muffle or disguise the report of a portable firearm. This category does not include non-portable devices, such as sound traps used by gunsmiths in their shops which are large and usually bolted to the floor.

Destructive Devices (DDs) – there are two broad classes of destructive devices:

* Devices such as grenades, bombs, explosive missiles, poison gas weapons, etc.
* Any non-sporting firearm with a bore over 0.50", such as a 40mm grenade launcher often used in conjunction with military rifles. (Many firearms with bores over 0.50", such as 12-gauge shotguns, are exempted from the law because they have been determined to have a legitimate sporting use.)

Any Other Weapons (AOWs) – this is a broad "catch-all" category used to regulate any number of firearms which the ATF deems deserving of registration and taxation. Examples include, among others:

* Smooth-bore pistols
* Pen guns and cane guns
* A firearm with combinations smooth bore and rifle barrels 12 inches or more but less than 18 inches in length from which only a single shot can be made from either barrel.
* Disguised firearms
* Firearms that can be fired from within a wallet holster or a briefcase
* A short-barreled shotgun which came from the factory with a pistol grip is categorized as an AOW rather than a SBS, because the Gun Control Act describes a shotgun as “…designed or redesigned to be fired from the shoulder…”

* Handguns with a forward vertical grip. It is therefore illegal to place an aftermarket foregrip on any pistol without first registering it as an AOW and paying the 0 "making tax" imposed by the Act.

Violations of the Act are punishable by up to 10 years in federal prison and forfeiture of all devices or firearms in violation, and the individual’s right to own or possess firearms in the future. The Act provides for a penalty of ,000 for certain violations.[8] A willful attempt to evade or defeat a tax imposed by the Act is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a 0,000 fine (0,000 in the case of a corporation or trust), under the general tax evasion statute.[9] For an individual, the felony fine of 0,000 for tax evasion could be increased to 0,000.[10]

Someone mentioned on another question that gun control should be tighter because "Noone needs a machine gun!" Well I have good news for you, as stated above.

And semi-automatic (ONE ROUND PER TRIGGER PULL, AKA AUTO-LOADING) firearms are NOT easily converted to fully automatic!

Most current fully-automatic trigger groups will not fit their semi-automatic firearm look-alike counterparts – the semi-auto
automatic firearm look-alike counterparts – the semi-automatic version is specifically constructed to reject the fully-automatic trigger group by adding metal in critical places. This addition is required by the ATF to prevent easy conversion of Title I firearms into machine guns. Additionally, some fully-automatic trigger groups are also permanently modified in such a way that they can no longer be made to function as fully-automatic fire control devices. The ATF has listed required manufacturing procedures for modifying these fully-automatic trigger groups to make them into legal semi-automatic trigger-groups for civilian sales.

The Assault Weapons Ban had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH FULLY AUTOMATIC WEAPONS! The AWB banned certain rifles, shotguns, and handguns based on certain features, like pistol grips, folding stocks, bayonet lugs (As if there’s ever been a drive-by bayoneting HAHA)

The assault weapons ban was pointless because all it did was ban mostly cosmetic features tha
t have NOTHING to do with how the firearm operates!

Do you know really think that you can just go into a gun store and walk out with a machine gun?!
Natalie: Do you even know what you are talking about? Fully automatic weapons are not ENTIRELY banned, but STRICTLY regulated. You must have permission from the federal government!

Do you think those people want to risk up to 10 years in federal prison and forfeiture of all devices or firearms in violation, and the individual’s right to own or possess firearms in the future. The Act provides for a penalty of ,000 for certain violations. A willful attempt to evade or defeat a tax imposed by the Act is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a 0,000 fine (0,000 in the case of a corporation or trust), under the general tax evasion statute. For an individual, the felony fine of 0,000 for tax evasion could be increased to 0,000.

THERE IS NO LOOPHOLE!
And BTW, I am a SOCIALIST that believes in the right to keep and bear arms.
Wounded Duck:

PROVE IT!

How come my uncle who was a cop for over 25 years NEVER encountered a criminal with an illegal fully automatic weapon?

Most of the guns criminals have are crappy pot metal handguns like Jennings Lorcin, Bryco etc.

What is the Title of this Movie: Unstable military pilot steals fighter jet, lands it, kills his family…?

December 4th, 2010 by eranio

Can anybody help me with a movie title I cannot remember and have trying to figure out for over a year now? It is a film about an unstable military pilot who steals a fighter jet. Before stealing the plane, he forces a female military personel to arm the plane with active missiles and then kills her. Then he steals the plane and flies off to some desert like place where his family lives. He hides the jet by a barn I think, and then goes into his family’s house and takes a shotgun or rifle and proceeds to shoot and kill his family members (a scene one cannot forget). Later he ends up in a dogfight with his old pilot instructor who has been sent to stop him before he launches the missiles. The instructor pilot shoots him down.

I would be extremely grateful if anyone can find out the title of the movie for me. I have been trying search terms in all sorts of combinations in vain!

Thank you very much!

Sincerely,
Stephen
Note: It is not "Broken Arrow" with John Travolta!
In the scene where he kills his family, after shooting his mother and father (who are sitting in their family room when they get shot), the pilot guy then shoots his little brother while his little brother is trying to climb out the window to escape.

Why does the USA need large military bases in Japan?

November 18th, 2010 by eranio

We have large bases in Japan and for what? Go ahead all of you experts explain, please.

Japan has weapons for self defense and a military.
Just purchased f-22 from USA.

Korea? What is the USA going to do if Korea does bomb Japan? Send in troops. We have bases in Korea.

We have wholes families in foreign countries that we are paying to support their living there, why?

These bases are full of things such as golf courses, fine dinning, movies, bowling, private marinas and the list goes on.
Yes, I have been to some of the bases, sweetie. Seems like you have not.

Yes, that is part of my problem. Yolu having so such on the bases and I am helping to pay for it, hello.

China & Korea, so what? we are going to invade with troops? If either one attacks Japan, it will be with missiles, hello.

Japan is in the process of changing the laws on self defense, before replying get some information and then reply.
We don’t need families overseas which we are paying to move there, live there, and have children there. When you join the military, just like becoming a policemen or teacher, you know the pay is low and you have a different lifestyle than a person in the civilian sector.
What the main subject is here is spending, the military budget and having an accounting done to see exactly what we are paying for. in 2005 we paid 11 million dollars for a center on Okinawa, Japan and in 2015 we are all but suppose to be gone from there, with very little left in personnel. People go to the eb site for these bases and have a look at what they have and what we are paying for, besides housing, child care and education for the children overseas. The biggest slice of the taxes goes to the military, hello.

Will Chinese-American relations deteriorate now that China announced a suspension of military exchanges?

October 18th, 2010 by eranio

Because of the US plan to sell military equiptment to Taiwan worth .4 billion (sales of Black Hawk helicopters, Patriot Advanced Capability-3 missiles and other weapons), will this usher in a new and significant non-cooperation in military and economic ties bet. the 2 countries? To what extent could this deteriorate?

THE US military' arsenal of weapons, aircraft, ships…..MEMORIAL DAY?

August 6th, 2010 by eranio

Is it me or is it just incredible the amount of technology the US has..

We have jets that can out fly anti aircraft missiles, we have aircraft carriers that are longer than the empire state building is tall and can carry out an entire assault by itself, we have missiles that can take off in the Arctic ocean from a submarine, and pinpoint a target thousands of miles away, we have artillery that can be fired from mile behind the front lines and accurately eliminate the enemy…..

And the best part is, we have men and women ready to fight until the death to help protect their country…..

I must say, aside from all the Liberals who would rather see our military disbanded and re-direct the money to the homeless in some foreign country that will most likely attack us, We live in a great country…

I am proud to be an American, Happy Memorial DAY all you vets out there and all those that have served, war or not…

YOU ARE A BRAVE! Have a Great day monday!
18,000 die annual of health care issues, gee and i though Mr Clinton made sure that when he sold those plots in Arlington to the Chinese he took care of that problem….no wait..maybe i should support the guy on the street corner begging drinking a 40 ounce not paying taxes on his earned income…I’ll just go back to my 60 hour a week job..thanks..

Should America just reduce its support to Israel to only Military aid?

June 26th, 2010 by eranio

From now on we only give them tanks, warships, missiles, guns…etc

As for anything else we stop it because they are just going to use it for the settlements which they refused to stop building.

what do you think?

When a military pilot fires he says Fox-1=Sparrow 2=Sidewinder 3=AMRAAM Rifle=AGM Pickle=Gravity Bomb. Right?

June 5th, 2010 by eranio

I was playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and an F-15 launched a HARM missile and said "Fox-3". I thought that the correct thing to say would be "Rifle". Let me know.
Devildawg367 my questions is not about the game. I was wanting to know about what pilots say when firing missiles. Therefore it is a military question.

Do right-wing gun owners actually believe they could defeat the federal government and U.S. military?

April 10th, 2010 by eranio

Would all the assault rifles, handguns and ammo in the world stand up against bombs, bombers, missiles, and millions of soldiers and Marines?

How much would you make if you owned a Military Company?

March 22nd, 2010 by eranio

Basically I’m talking about how much would I make if I was owner or part-owner of a military industry featuring all this. Guns, ammunition, missiles, military aircraft, military vehicles, ships, electronic systems, research and development, steel, energy and a private Special Military Corp.
My dream is to one day put all of this into one company. i’ll be the real-life Tony Stark
I want to be a Weapons Engineer when I graduate :)

Have you noticed how certain countries parade around their military weapons?

February 4th, 2010 by eranio

This is something I started to notice recently, how certain countries parade around and show off their military weapons as if they were the focal point of their national pride.

Examples include Russia, North Korea, China, Iran, where they have these massive parades with soldiers in uniform marching along side tanks, and missiles, and some kind of weaponry. Most of these countries also tend to do something similar to a "goose-walk".

The only thing I could think of that is like that in the U.S. would be the Blue Angels that fly at Miramar, but that’s more of a local thing than a national thing, and it’s also more of a sporting event than a nationalism thing (you have to pay to attend). Even so, the jets aren’t armed with missiles or doing dog fights….
