Are the FN Herstal P90 and F2000 ever used by US military forces anywhere?

February 22nd, 2011 by eranio

I think the guns are technologically advanced, and in the case of the F2000, greatly superior to the M4′s currently jamming on our troops in their fight for civility in the middle east. The F2000 is a 5.56 chambered weapon, that has a longer barrel than the M4, but is much shorter. It uses M16 magazines, so it would fit right in with current weapons.

Or, thanks to the way the contracts work, is there no way for troops to recquisition their commanders to let them have better guns, even if they paid out of pocket for them? I’d consider my rifle worth investing in.

I have seen group photos of guys in my recruiter’s office that have weapons that i doubt are commonly issued. And it was the recruiter in the photos, not just a generic promotional photo.

I know SF are well known for giving the military beaurocrats the finger, and using whatever guns they feel best get the job done (H&K’s SCAR-L). Are they the only guys that get a choice in guns?

I’ll be doing 89D EOD in the Army, btw.

Military weapons queston (WW 2):?

March 22nd, 2010 by eranio

I was watching the Saving Private Ryan rerun on TNT and I always had one question regarding weapons references – when they get to the small french town & bridge towards the end that they decide to stay & defend, the american soldiers who have been defending the town up til then mention that they got damaged badly by "german 88′s". There are several other mentions in the film of german 88′s. What is this weapon. I am thinking maybe the twin cannon large caliper machine type gun that the germans carry around on a small trailer behind trucks and half-tracks. I think this was also an anti-aircraft gun but could be cranked down horizontal and used for shoot vehicles or soldiers as well. There are scenes of that occurring during the final fight for the little french town. I was trying to find a photo of that weapon on the internet but couldn’t. If its the one I am referring to it is an extremely large caliber shell, more like a cannon or anti-aircraft gun you’d see mounted on a naval ship. Hopefully someone can clarify what a "German 88" weapon is, or point me to a photo of one on the internet possibly. Thanks.
Holy cow, I looked at the links. That is one nasty large gun, no wonder when it was turned down and used for vehicles and personel there was nothing left of them, a body disintegrator. Thanks to all who answered the question – good and fast responses.

In the military and trying to buy a firearm in the state I’m assigned to?

March 15th, 2010 by eranio

I’m trying to buy a firearm in Missouri, but federal law requires you to show a government issued ID that proves that you have resided in the state that you’re purchasing a firearm from for at least 30 days. My question is being in the military is there anyway around that because I have an Oklahoma driver’s license with an Oklahoma residence on it? According to law it looks as if I can’t even purchase one in Oklahoma either because I am currently residing here in Missouri. The only thing I can think of is bring some bills with me and maybe a copy of the lease which I’m having trouble finding at the moment. The bills I do have I noticed that it only has my address on the stub that you mail in which I already mailed in my last set of bills, so what do I do? Please help!

Thanks,

Justin
I can’t believe I didn’t think of my LES, but when I checked it just now it’s only showing the address on my most recent one and I think I need one from at least 30 days ago. As for my PCS orders I’ll have to look around for them, but I’m sure I have them some where.

By the way, for whoever asked, I’m a SrA in the USAF here at Whiteman. I don’t think you can check out firearms at our BX, outdoor rec, or our armory or I would of heard of it by now for the 3 years I’ve been here do to all the hunters in my section. Our range is for OFUO I believe some bases have rec ranges. Anyways, thanks everyone for all the good insight. I think I’ll go look for my orders so I can possibly get my handgun tomorrow.
I can’t find my orders, so I’m gonna print my LES from 30 days ago since I noticed it has the zip code that it’s based on at the bottom and hopefully that will work for me. If not, I’ll just go to my MPF this week and hopefully purchase an XDM next weekend if the store still has them.
I went to the store today and I asked them this same question and they said there is a new law that became in effect about a year ago stating that the only way I can buy a firearm here in Missouri is that I have to have a photo ID that matches my current address no matter if I’m military or not to purchase a firearm. But I believe it is only another stupid Missouri law, so I guess I’ll have to drive down to Oklahoma and buy it there.
