I am looking for a book about a tracker who is called on by the military to find a creature.?

March 29th, 2011 by eranio

Fictional book written between 1998-2005. The CIA/Militrary has a lab. They inject a soldier with something and it transforms him into a superhuman creature who kills everyone. This"tracker" (who just located a lost child in either the mountains or the dessert) is called in to help a Special Forces team track and kill this creature. This creature is hard to kill because the more he eats, the faster he regenerates. At one point in the story the SF team shoot this creature with 50 cal rifles and it seems to slow the creature down. There is also a women in the story (I think she is part of the SF team). I am not sure of her name. The story moves to a few locations, but the monster is hunted in possibly the South Pole, the jungle, or a dessert.

So how has your luck been with 20 gauge slugs?

February 16th, 2011 by eranio

Here’s the question, how has your luck been with 20 gauge slugs on deer in the past? Say out of a mod-choked 23" bbl? I would like to know the farthest distance you have successfully taken deer at, your preferred ammunition, and what you would consider the limits to be of your preferred ammunition.

Ok, I am going to throw in another question just for the heck of it. So we have had many questions about military rifles, and their use in military combat, the past few days from a certain member of YA! that I have always tried to be nice to and give my best answer to when they asked a question that I felt I could answer. My question is this, do you think that people should post military questions (which contain no hunting references in them) in the hunting forum and then we should get them banned for continually posting in the wrong section? Or what would you consider to be proper course of action to help better the YA! hunting forum?
Thank you Tahoe. To clarify, I am referring to the questions that are talking about the use of those firearms in combat situations, which have no hunting situations or implications.

Building Marine Corps M40A3 sniper rifle. How much will it come up to and what are the specs? Trying to budget

February 11th, 2011 by eranio

I know it has a 25" schneider barrel. A McMillan A4 stock. Harris Bipod. Trigger guard and various parts from DD Ross, and that it is built on the Remington 700 short action. But what I don’t know is which Remington 700 model, there’s a 100 of them out there, and the price for one. Since I’m budgeting I’m hoping to get one for under 0…preferbly 0 or 0. Also the cost to true the action, and the kind of various work that needs to be done on the rifle by gunsmiths, with the cost as well.

With all of the new .223/5.56 assault rifles coming out, what are the pros and cons of them all?

February 9th, 2011 by eranio

I don’t care if you take it from a civilian or military perspective, I’m just curious. There are a million m-4′s, AR-15, now there are SCARs, the US military is looking at XM8′s right now, Bushmaster just came out with the ACR, every gun company under the sun has their version of an m4/ar15. If money is no issue, what are the pros and cons of all these straight out of the box? (feel free to add any other 5.56 nato round shooting assault rifles)
Reading the first answer I got maybe I’m not being clear. Yeah no crap about full auto not being legal, I’m not retarded, I’m not 12, I own several firearms of my own. I’m trying to find out the major pros, cons, and differences of all these new assault rifles that are on the market and that are coming out.
Ahem, once again, reading some of the answers, this is not about ammo, this is about guns, thanks :D
Reading more answers…..I’m NOT asking "What is an assault rifle?" I’m DO KNOW that I cannot get full auto…thanks

Why is the Tea Party trying to make budget cuts to the Military and our Veterans and their families?

January 23rd, 2011 by eranio

WASHINGTON – Back home, tea partiers clamoring for the debt-ridden government to slash spending say nothing should be off limits. Tea party-backed lawmakers echo that argument, and they’re not exempting the military’s multibillion-dollar budget in a time of war.

That demand is creating hard choices for the newest members of Congress, especially Republicans who owe their elections and solid House majority to the influential grass-roots movement. Cutting defense and canceling weapons could mean deep spending reductions and high marks from tea partiers as the nation wrestles with a .3 trillion deficit. Yet it also could jeopardize thousands of jobs when unemployment is running high.

Proponents of the cuts could face criticism that they’re trying to weaken national security in a post-Sept. 11 world.

House Republican leaders specifically exempted defense, homeland security and veterans’ programs from spending cuts in their party’s "Pledge to America" campaign manifesto last fall. But the House’s new majority leader, Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va., has said defense programs could join others on the cutting board.

The defense budget is about 0 billion annually. Few in Congress have been willing to make cuts as U.S. troops fight in Afghanistan and finish the operation in Iraq.
Really how could you people do that to our veterans and their families ?

Ex military who like the AK 47 over the M16 (ar 15)?

November 13th, 2010 by eranio

I am ex-military and own an ak 47 (bought it 8yrs ago) and I love it! I like the idea of not having search and search for the right ammo and know the weapon will always fire no matter what. I also feel that the ak 47 is very unjustly accused of being very inaccurate! I am able to get 1.5 to 2inch shot groups at 100yds. I was watching the Hitler (ummmm) history channel special on the m-16 and man did they play that gun up.They even went so far as to call it the "most powerful assault rifle" so far. I laughed so hard, had to stop the treadmill or would have went flying! Anyway, being prior military I know this is not the case. Every chance we had we were cleaning our m-16s. I thought it was just military discipline but now know that it was that the military’s understanding that if m16s weren’t clean – they may very well jam. Not trying to re-hash the ak47 vs m16 debate was just wondering . Ex or current military only please!

could it be the Iranian version of Oliver North that is delivering weapons to Iraq?

November 12th, 2010 by eranio

we kept denying delivery of weapons to Contra and Iran. why our media and/or our military and/or administration doesn’t mention such a possibilities. should we make all Iranians accountable if their"OLI" kinds takes the law in their hands. would the Iranian"OLI" become a hero and even get promoted just like the USA version did?how is this any different with the way we interfered in Nicaragua and else where in the world?
MR charles, you didn’t aswer the question. the Iranian OLI will justify his action. ie; to stop USA imperialists, etc. also your son and other people’s son are addicted to the cocaine he brought to USA. MEANS JUSTIFIES THE END? THAT’LL B ALL OLIVER NORTH KINDS EXCUSE!

Who would be a better shot:Someone taught to shoot at an early age, or someone taught to shoot by the military?

November 9th, 2010 by eranio

I started shooting with my brother and father when I was nine. My Dad sort of explained the front sight and the back sight and that was it. I was not the favored son, ( I was small, weak, and not incredibly masculine) so the only thing my Dad would do is scream at me if he thought I was being unsafe, when he and my brother were shooting. My Dad and Brother would have fun shooting together. I was usually dumped off in some small canyon not far away with a brick of .22 and told not to shoot in their direction. I was an "oops" baby late in my Father’s life, and he was exasperated at having to raise another kid when he was 50. I often wonder if I would be a better shot today, if instead of teaching myself how to shoot, I actually had correct instruction from the beginning.

And here is the part that made no sense to me: I had about nine years of shooting experience before I went into the Army. At 18, you could have handed me almost any gun in America, and I have a pretty good idea what it was, and how to use it. Guess who the Firearms Training Sergeants yelled at the most? Yeah. Me. They constantly kept screaming about how I stood, how I held the gun, and how I pulled the trigger. I had absolutely no problem qualifying. I wasn’t a great shot, but I could qualify, no problem. Why didn’t they yell and scream about the people who couldn’t qualify? I shot well enough to qualify the first time I fired the M16. Did it make any sense that they would scream at ME to change my style if I could qualify?

AR-10 how reliable are they in bad conditions?

November 8th, 2010 by eranio

I am looking at buying an AR-10, probably a DPMS or Armalight, for an all around rifle (personal defense, hunting, zombie attack etc.). I want the AR-10 over the 15 because of the added knock down power of the .308. Many people have recommended an AR style rifles for their accuracy and reliability, and to be the "go to" firearm for the US Military it has to be good.

The only bad thing I have heard from AR users, both civilian and military, is that if it gets the slightest amount of dirt in it it will malfunction horribly. I was wondering if any one had any input on this. I know that with proper and regular cleaning most guns will behave properly but if I were stuck out in the woods for a few weeks without a cleaning kit would I be in trouble with an AR? If so would there be an alternative any one would suggest in or under the ,500 range that would have the same or similar stopping power and tactical accessory options (rails for lights and optics etc.)?

P.S.
I really want to steer away from the Kalashnikov family. I have heard too many stories of people loosing self defense cases due to the negative stigma surrounding the firearms because of their history of being used by the "other side" in so many of the conflicts that our country has been involved with over the last half century or so. That said I think the AK and their clones and variants are excellent and reliable firearms.
Thanks Mack…Tho that reminds me, How do they do with water. Obviously Im not gonna go swimming with it but do are they ok with brief exposure to the wet stuff? Im thinking river crossing or a canoe overturning.
Thanks Chris. I am kinda sold on the .308 but would a similar upgrade be a good idea, or even help, in the AR-10 ( sorry I have little experience with gas powered firearms)? I have used a .308 and the recoil and follow up time is not bad at all for me so that’s not really a concern.

Why do adults always treat me like crap?

October 28th, 2010 by eranio

I am 25, I graduated from a very good college. I have never done drugs, and don’t drink. I am very clean cut and because I run a lot I have very low body fat and am not muscular. I am about 5’6" and less than 160 pounds soaking wet.

I work in the retail business and run my family’s stores. I have done this since I was 18. It never fails that people think they can pick on me. Adults always talk to me like I am stupid and try to take advantage of me. They never believe that I am not in high school or that I own the own business.
When I have to be assertive at work or in my life people think they can physically intimidate me. I have had guys literally square off to me and try to fight me.

The worst part is that due to my business I handle a TON of cash and am allowed to be armed by the police. I am always carrying a gun and have done a ton of firearms training (with military and law enforcement) as well as a bit of martial arts training. I DO NOT want to get into a fistfight with people because they are going to get hurt very bad.

Should I grow a beard?

What are your feelings, if any, on the removal of Biblical references from military weapon sights?

October 27th, 2010 by eranio

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_military_weapons_bible_references
Ricky!: General Jack D. Ripper: "Nineteen hundred and forty-six. Nineteen forty-six, Mandrake. How does that coincide with your post-war Commie conspiracy, huh? It’s incredibly obvious, isn’t it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That’s the way your hard-core Commie works."
-Quote excerpted from "Dr. Strangelove……"

How does “Thou shalt not kill” apply to Christians in the police force and military who kill our enemies?

October 8th, 2010 by eranio

There are many Christians in the military, just read their dog tags. I didn’t know how the "Thou shalt not kill" commandment applies to Christians who are police officers who kill criminals in the line of duty. Or soldiers in the military who kill the enemy with a rifle or fly fighter jets that drop bombs on other nations.

Can someone tell me how this commandment applies to them? Is there a bible verse that explains it and if so, what and where is it?
The Roman Catholic Church uses the translation ‘kill’ (less specific) instead of ‘murder’. – quoted from Wikipedia

So do Catholics not believe in killing in anyway?
Thanks to everyone who has responded so far.

"martina" wrote : "Everyone mentioned it above that it is murder not kill and the Lord knows our hearts and intentions!

And you must know that just b/c you are in the police force, military ect.. does not mean you will kill anyone."

Yes I understand what you mean but I’ve also been told by Marines and cops that they have a saying, "You don’t have to kill anyone, but you have to bring your gun with you."
Tiki’s Friend wrote : "….or the firemen who go into burning buildings to save your life? Or the mothers who die giving birth?……….GROW UP. Learn how to separate truth from fiction."

I find it interesting how you compare a fireman risking his life and dying in a burning building comparable to a police officer who empties an entire round into a drug dealer. Or a pregnant woman who wants nothing more than to have a child of her own being compared to some Kamikaze pilot dropping a nuke on an entire city.

Tiki’s Friend you must sacrifice so much by the way you talk. I hope I can be just like you when I grow up. What a big man you are.

If we are so worried about Iran getting weapons, why ?

October 5th, 2010 by eranio

why is our own govt. shipping military weapons to Iran ?
"
Sanctions are intended in part to frustrate Iran’s efforts to build its military, but the U.S. government’s own figures show at least 8,000 worth of unspecified weapons and other military gear were exported from the United States to Iran during Bush’s time in office. That includes 6,635 in military rifles and ,760 in rifle parts and accessories shipped in 2004, the data shows.

Also shipped to Iran were at least ,000 in "aircraft launching gear and/or deck arrestors," equipment needed to launch jets from aircraft carriers, according to U.S. records. Iran’s navy is not believed to own or operate any carriers."

http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/07/08/iran.us.buying.ap/index.html

Why are we arming the axis evil ? That’s feeding evil with evil which would make us an accomplice of evil ?

What’s the reason for arming them when a conflict is possible (soon) ?

How old is my Smith and Wesson Model 10 (Military & Police) .38 Special Revolver?

October 1st, 2010 by eranio

Hello, I recently purchased a Smith and Wesson Model 10 revolver and I am trying to find out what the estimated manufacture date is. On the topside of the barrel, it says "Smith and Wesson,Springfield Mass" with 3 patent dates in 1906 1908 and 1914 with "38 special ctg" on the side. The serial number is 4869XX (486,9XX). Based on this serial number range, can anyone tell me roughly what year(s) this firearm was made? It is in good condition for it’s age, I believe it is also known as the M&P "Fourth Change" model. Thank you for your help!

How do US military tanks operate submerged?

September 26th, 2010 by eranio

Some US tanks are able to operate when underwater to a depth of about 2 meters over the turret, I think, when equipped with a special snorkel device and perhaps a periscope. I saw a half-second video clip of a tank driving underwater once; all I recall is millions of bubbles. How, in fact, is this done? How do they empty the main gun of water when they come up on the opposite bank of the river and have to fire at the enemy?
The idea that the tank operates with water over the turret came from my reading a military specification for a (particular) tank, one that is now long obsolete. The half-second video clip looked like an Abrams, so I assumed that this idea was still being pursued.
I did not assume the tanks could float. (I’d known about the WW2 tanks with inflatable "bloomers", developed to allow LSTs to drop off tanks farther from shore, & the tanks would go like boats until they touched shore. The bloomers tended to burst in use.) I was asking about tanks traveling on the river bottom from riverbank to riverbank.

What are the drawbacks of the M16A4?

September 24th, 2010 by eranio

I heard the US Military are looking to replace the M16 and its variants because of its "aging condition". I mean it doesn’t have to be out of service because it’s old. As long as it is effective it’s still in use right?
That means there are some drawbacks or negative things to the weapon? What are the "drawbacks" of the current issued M16A4 rifles? Like jamming or heavy or short in ammo or stuff like that.
