Do you get gun rights/licenses after honorable Military service?

March 20th, 2011 by eranio

I’ve always wondered the answer to this question… If you have served in the U.S. Military and completed your service HONORABLY, do you get licenses that might be difficult for civilians to obtain for yourself? (Like the right to own/carry a handgun, last time i checked that was REALLY hard to obtain). It would make sense, right? You trained with one, you know about all the safety, you are a gun expert, you know how to do anything with one, and you were trusted with one in the defense of this nation. It just seems right. And does honorable military service also grant you the right/license to own a rifle/shotgun? I know you can’t keep your guns that you were issued because they are property of the U.S. Government, but can you be given to go off after your service and by your own guns (Handguns and Rifles/Shotguns)?

Man with M16 rifle will always win battle against man with handguns?

February 10th, 2011 by eranio

M16 rifle vs handguns.
Even Military police with handgun would lose fight against guy with M16 ?
Isn`t it impossible to fight against man with large rifle by handguns?
Handguns and shotguns can`t shoot that far, and it takes time to shoot 1 bullet.

Who would win ? guy with AK47 , MP5 or M16 ? IF they were all well trained soldiers.

What are some valid points?

February 7th, 2011 by eranio

I am an avid shooter and fire arm collector. I have been shooting from almost 25 years now. I am in the military. I do compete in some shooting competitions(not professionally nor am I a sponsored shooter). I am asking though what are some valid points of why people should not be able to possess firearms? Not possess silencers / suppressors? Not possess semi-automatic pistols, rifles, and shotguns? Not possess assault rifles (semi automatic rifles or not always considered assault rifles? Not possess fully automatic rifles?? I am not going to be foolish. I do agree not everyone should possess a fully automatic rifle nor does everyone need to. Some people own them cause they are fire arm collectors and like to allow public citizens a chance to shoot some military firearms. There are shooting events across the country where people can pay to shoot rounds through an automatic rifle. I also know some of you are saying why do people need suppressors if they are not going to do anything wrong. Again some people just want to own it so they can. I collect weapons from ww ii and vietnam.

What kind of mother buys her 14 y/o son a 9mm assault rifle?

January 2nd, 2011 by eranio

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071012/ap_on_re_us/student_arsenal_5

lock her up too.
I see we have a couple of yahoos who think I am anti-gun. Not the case, I have about a dozen guns, rifles, shotguns, pistols. And I got my 1st gun at 10 or 11 yrs or so. Sorry to sink your boat. We’re talking a 9mm assault rifle, not a .22 or a .410, which is what a 14 y/o may be responsible enough to handle. Take a look at the cache they found in his bedroom. You gonna tell me mama didn’t know that stuff was there? And what did she thin he was going to do with it? A 14 y/o DOES NOT need that kind of stuff, period. Anyone who would argue that his is an ok situation is either really out of touch with reality or just arguing to be a smartass.
oh, yes, I am a parent, to a 14 y/o & a 17 y/o. Both know how to hangle a weapon, but have access to light firearms, when I unlock the cabinet.

Can you answer this question regarding NJ Firearms ID and permit applications?

December 13th, 2010 by eranio

NJ law states that you are to be issued your ID or permit within 30 days…

I applied 9 months ago… still no ID or permit.

After the first 5 months, I was informed there was a paperwork problem. So they fixed the problem and "sent everything out". It has been about 3 months since then, and still no word back.

I’m a military vet (just got out in march when I applied for my firearms ID and permit), I have a super clean record except for a no seat belt ticket, I’m a security guard, and I’m trying to become a police officer. I don’t understand why it would be taking so long.

So my question is: What should someone do if their application for a Firearms ID and purchasers permit goes over the "30 day" limit?
I’m applying for a purchasers permit for a handgun and the normal firearms ID to own/buy rifles and shotguns, not a permit to carry.

Why does the U.S. military reject shotguns as primary weapons?

November 27th, 2010 by eranio

They have great stopping power. Slugs have more power than a 5.56mm round and the average engagement for U.S. personel today is 75 yards or less. Slugs have an effective range up to 125 yards and sometimes more. Even buckshot would have effective firepower for putting down lead down range. The Usas 12 Full Auto Shotgun has a 50 round drum that can fire birdshot,buckshot,slugs, and even 40mm rounds with effective range up to 200 yards! Why wouldn’t the U.S. use shotguns for combat instead of door breaching?

Is it true that some of the 700 series Remington rifles go off by themselves?

November 2nd, 2010 by eranio

What do you think and what is your experience.

Barack H. Obama vs the Second Amendment?

October 18th, 2010 by eranio

Is this a big deal to anyone? Just want to get some opinions. I have 12 guns, I have shotguns / single action cowboy guns / semi-auto rifles / carry guns older military rifles. I just like my guns, it’s one of my hobbies. That is why this is a big issue to me. Can somebody convince me that Obama will not be a gun grabber if he wins office? Here are some articles I found so far on Obama vs the Second Amendment.

Stop unscrupulous gun dealers dumping guns in cities. (Jul 2007)
Keep guns out of inner cities–but also problem of morality. (Oct 2006)
Ban semi-automatics, and more possession restrictions. (Jul 1998)
Voted NO on prohibiting lawsuits against gun manufacturers. (Jul 2005)

How many crimes are actually committed in the US using an 'assault' rifle? I can't remember seeing many news?

October 2nd, 2010 by eranio

stories of crimes involving the use of assault rifles. Handguns, yes, but rarely an assault rifle. But my memory isn’t infallible. If you know of some, please tell me, or give me a site that lists them.

This arose because I thought the amount of effort spent debating about banning assault rifles was disproportionate to their actual use in crimes, including crazy shooting sprees. So for the purposes of this question, please do not include hunting rifles or shotguns. That’s a larger question.

Thanks.

Australian Gun Control Facts?

August 28th, 2010 by eranio

Since Australia banned private ownership of most guns in 1996, crime has risen dramatically on that continent, prompting critics of U.S. gun control efforts to issue new warnings of what life in America could be like if Congress ever bans firearms.

After Australian lawmakers passed widespread gun bans, owners were forced to surrender about 650,000 weapons, which were later slated for destruction, according to statistics from the Australian Sporting Shooters Association.

The bans were not limited to so-called "assault" weapons or military-type firearms, but also to .22 rifles and shotguns. The effort cost the Australian government about 0 million, said association representative Keith Tidswell.

Though lawmakers responsible for passing the ban promised a safer country, the nation’s crime statistics tell a different story:

Countrywide, homicides are up 3.2 percent;

Assaults are up 8.6 percent;

Amazingly, armed robberies have climbed nearly 45 percent;

In the Australian state of Victoria, gun homicides have climbed 300 percent;

In the 25 years before the gun bans, crime in Australia had been dropping steadily;

There has been a reported "dramatic increase" in home burglaries and assaults on the elderly.

Why do people think guns are illegal in the UK?

July 13th, 2010 by eranio

We just do not have a right to bear arms here. Only certain types of firearms are outlawed such as handguns, semi-automatic, pump-action centre fire rifles, military weapons firing explosive ammunition, short shotguns that had magazines, and both elevated pump-action and self-loading rifles.

But you can obtain other firearms as long as you have a license. The catch is that it must be hard to get this license as you must have a very good reason and self protection can not be one of them. I’m guessing the elite easily gain these licenses.

What do you think of older guns?

May 6th, 2010 by eranio

I like older mail order/kitchen door guns and older military guns. I just started getting into single shots and older guns. I know what to look at when buying them and how to check to see if there safe to fire. I had my eyes on a Spanish Imperial in .38 Special after handling it, It had way to much play in cylinder didn’t function in SA sometimes and trigger was way to lose and needed parts that would have had to be custom made. I asked what other handguns they had around 0. He said since he knows I have a thing for old guns I would feel like I was at a history convention. I was soon looking at a counter full of old top break revolvers from yester year in .32 S&W and .38 S&W. Most where Iver Johnson/US Revolvers with a one H&R and one S&W. After a few minutes I had a Iver Johnson third model top break in .38 set a side for my dad to pick up on Saturday. I put my the S&W and H&R and a .32 Iver hammerless on my list. Any ways why do people not have and interest or like these guns? I mean all these new tactical guns the have in the show room but if they know you enough you can go in the back room or corner behind the counter and dig threw military rifles. There are great prices like a unissued MAS 36 for 0 and a K-31 for 5 these took a while to get off the shelf I guess just me and a few collectors are interested in them but these AK and AR style rifles along with the new plastic pistol or anything "tacti-cool" flies off the shelf. They have a basement full of older shotguns and rifles that just gather dust down there. I mean I once seen a guy interested in a Winchester 1200 and was offered a Ted Williams 200 for less but he payed the extra money for a Winchester logo and chipped stock. I mean why not give the attention to these old guns they deserve? I’ll admit most of them are out dated but we wouldn’t be where were at with out them. Most of these were every where and highly advertised. You might say single shot shotguns for example are a dime a dozen. I look like each one of those has a different story and unique in there own way. If those guns could talk about there travels and all they saw I could listen day in and out. I see AR rifles and tacti-cool guns as bland and underneath those thirty pounds of accessories there all the same.

Any way what is your personal view on these older/mail order guns? I’m pretty interested to the answers here.

Guns – Which fire underwater? If you shoot into water from land, how far down does the average bullet go?

April 4th, 2010 by eranio

I understand that there are thousands of kinds of guns, but do all, most or just a few fire underwater? How about if you fire into the water, what generally happens to the bullet? Does it go far into the water, bounce off, angle off, or what? I am more interested in handguns/ military weapons rather than shotguns/heavy artilary.

What is a good book with a lot of information on guns?

February 17th, 2010 by eranio

By this I mean stats and information on the operation of Handguns, Rifles, and Shotguns: Military, Hunting and Citizen Owned. I already know the basics of firearms but would like to learn more about specific guns themselves. And any other books on Firearms would be greatly appreciated if listed! Thank you!

How are individual weapons assigned to infantry in the military?

February 1st, 2010 by eranio

More specifically, how is it decided if a soldier would carry an automatic rifle, or a shotgun? For instance, in many Vietnam and later war movies (e.g. "Platoon") most ‘grunts’ carry M16 or similar automatic rifles, but there may be one or two soldiers with shotguns instead. How is it decided if you’d be issued a shotgun or the standard issue automatic rifle?

January 16th, 2010 by eranio

Muzzle loaders, Self reloading, Military rifles, Shotguns don’t count. I’m talking about legal hunting/shooting rifles for civilian use with store bought cartridges.

I just want your opinion not the exact 100% hands down correct answer. Keep your thumbs down to yourself its an open forum.

Why does the government allow assault rifles and shotguns to be sold? I understand handguns but why the others

December 30th, 2009 by eranio

I don’t think people should be allowed to own assault rifles,snipers, and shotguns because those are just mean to fully kill. A standard handgun is ok but why sell military class weapons?

what is the difference between an automatic shotgun and an assault rifle?

December 27th, 2009 by eranio

it fires rapidly and can fire a single shell as opposed to pellets. what exactly characterizes a shotgun as opposed to an assaul rifle or machine gun?

Every cop car should be equipped with automatic assault rifle?

December 9th, 2009 by eranio

Criminals are becoming more brazen, opening fire with automatic assault rifles on police officers armed with only semiautomatic pistols and sometimes shotguns. Should our law enforcement officers have automatic assault rifles in their patrol cars, so they can fight back when they come under attack by a deranged individual intent on massacring the police?
steven_c, I am only glad to hear that if you are a cop.
I looked up AR-15 on Wikipedia and learned that it is a semiautomatic rifle based on the M-16. I suppose the AR-15 is good for police work, especially in the hands of a shooter who can make every shot count.
