What Rifle Cartridge is big enough?

March 11th, 2011 by eranio

K I like military type rifles especially ones that use 7.62 ammo (Ak-47, Sks, FN FAL mosin nagant etc.) I hunt deer and was wondering what rifle like this has large enough ammunition for deer. 7.62 would be alright except i need more range than most of these rifles offer. I read somewhere that the FAL comes in .308 but im not a big fan of .308. the wwii springfield rifle is 30-06 which some people i know like for deer. any suggestions would be awesome thanx.

Did the Viet Cong and the Taliban use the Chinese SKS Assault rifle?

November 13th, 2010 by eranio

I know they both use the AK-47 and AK-74, but did/do they use the SKS? i would think so, because it is a pretty cheap gun, pretty reliable, and is an assault rifle, it is close caliber to the AK, almost identical (though the SKS doesnt have a pistol grip, different sights, and just a few slight differences in design) but did they use it? are they still manufactured?

Assault rifle age and buying laws for PA?

October 25th, 2010 by eranio

Me and one of my friends each turn 18 in march, and we each planed on buying our own SKS. would we be allowed to or do you have to be 21? and would it be a simple 10 minute background check (like for bolt action hunting rifles) or would they have to do a special assault rifle check that would take several days?

Thanks

Firearm Appraisers, I need your professional opinion?

September 20th, 2010 by eranio

I have someone currently interested in purchasing my good-to-excellent condition Yugo SKS. It has appx. 325 rounds through it, has the NATO standard 20mm grenade launcher, with an 11.5” bayonet, and the 12-port muzzle break. If I were to sell the rifle with 150+ rounds of ammo, 10 stripper clips, original military rope bore cleaner, and a bandolier, how much should I sell it for? Thanks.

Cheap good gun, that looks military?

September 16th, 2010 by eranio

What is a good, and cheap, riffle that has a newer military look? Have an SKS but want something similar to an AR style gun without the 1200 dollar price tag.

What does "sporterize" mean?

July 22nd, 2010 by eranio

I work for a sporting goods store and we sell collectable military rifles (M44′s, 91/30′s, SKS’, Enfield’s, etc.) Every once in a while I hear a customer talk about how they "sporterized" their rifle, but I don’t know what that means. Please explain.

cheap chinese guns, possibly?

May 16th, 2010 by eranio

i know im just getting my hopes up and it will never happen, but do the chinese have out of date military guns stocked up(like the iron curtain), because supposedly their economy is going to crash in 9-12 months, and if that happens what are the chances of something similar to the cheap iron curtain guns happening again(if their economy goes really bad, like greece)?

also does anyone have any idea of where to get 5.8x42mm chinese ammo?
@eddygordo19: DAMN!!!!!

@Andrews 2.0: the full autos would be brought over in the same way as the ak parts kits, also if the chinese make something for their own county it is supposedly better quality, also i have a chinese sino-soviet sks
george bush banned norinco imports, does that mean if some other chinese place exported it we would be able to get them

WW-2 military Firearm question?

April 10th, 2010 by eranio

Currently, I can see that all WW-2 guns are appreciating in price except Ex-Soviet ones. Nazi was enemy and their Guns like Mauser or Luger are through roof if it has Swastika. Japanese Ariska was junk quality but still they are appreciating. Rarity of 303 ammo doesn’t stop Enfield from appreciating but then how come Russian Mosin Nagant or Nagant M1895 revolver or Tokarev Pistol are actually loosing value? Only appreciating ones are SKS which were not even used in WW-2
Thanks

What is the reason for making so many different AR style rifles in .223, or 5.56?

April 9th, 2010 by eranio

What is the source of their popularity? I know one guy who owns a gun chambered in .223, and from what he’s told me, the only advantage to the round is expense, a .222, 22-250, or 25-06 will outshoot it. Do these guns just trade on looks, or is there an inherent advantage to the AR platform and the .223 round? I have an SKS, not the greatest gun in the world, but the ammo is incredibly cheap, and it is about the most reliable semi-auto action available. I know some people call 7.62×39 underpowered, but to me the reliability and expense make up for any and all deficiencies, if there are any. So I’m not dumping on surplus or military style guns- I know that for a multi-purpose gun, you absolutely can’t beat surplus guns. But it seems as though a quarter to half of the new semi-auto rifles in catalogues are AR in .223. The rounds not underpowered, and I’m sure they’re very accurate, but why so many of the exact same design? Especially since the action isn’t the most reliable.

Question on military rifles?

November 25th, 2009 by eranio

Which is louder, the 5.56X45 or 7.62X39?

Many people say the 5.56 is louder then the 7.62X39 dude to the much higher gas pressure(62,000 psi for 5.56 vs only 45,000 psi for 7.62×39) and that the bullet is almost 1000 ft per second faster. Is this true? I get mixed answers, some say the 5.56 is louder, others say the 7.62X39 is louder.

I know the 5.56 has a sharper sound while the 7.62X39 has more of a duller sound.

Also how does the 5.56X45 and 7.62X39 compare to the 7.62X51 NATO/.308 which has more powder?

Anyone who owns or fired both an AR-15/M4/M16 and an AK-47/SKS could help me?

When I think of surplus rifles I think of the mosin nagant, kar98, springfield, lee enfield, sks, ak47, and other popular military rifles. I want reliabilityy, cheap ammunition, and decent/good accuracy. Whats my best bet? I would like to pay between 0-0 for each rifle.

What is the definition of assault rifle?

November 9th, 2009 by eranio

I have seen many definitions.

One is that it is a weapon that can switch between semi-automatic and fully automatic fire. But, a Thompson sub-machine gun can also do this and it is not an assault rifle it is a submachinegun. Another definition is that it fires an intermediate round, something between a rifle round and a pistol round. An AR-15 fires an intermediate round and it is just a semiautomatic rifle that looks "mean"….I don’t consider it an assault rifle, it is just a semi-automatic rifle to me.

The phrase seems bogus to me. It seems that whenever someone wants to make a gun look "bad" they call it "assault rifle". "Assault" also means "attack" so it also seems like the definition depends on what you are using it for. You could assault someone with any rifle…does that mean a bolt action .22 cricket is an assault rifle too?

I feel that if there is no definite defintion that everyone honors and that we should just make up a new term and scrap "assault rifle".
I pretty much have a good idea of what they are, the definition dosn’t seem to be rock hard to me though. A lot of people seem to like to distort it into being something it isn’t. I tihnk we should make a new term and first thing make an accurate definition. Assault Rifle was supposedly coined by Hitler and was not really defined at the time of it’s making thus allowing for all manner of interpretations. I know several people who thing my SKS is an assult rifle just because because it has a bayonet, a grenade launcher and looks kind-of-ish-like an AK-47.

I just think Assault Rifle has been too over used, over defined and has just become a bad phrase.
Now select fire can’t be right because the MP43/44 is only semi-auto and full-auto. There is no burst fire mode. If we make it have 3 fire modes the original assault rifle will no longer be an assault rifle. If we count 2 fire modes things like Thompson’s will be assault rifles and they are not rifles. I find that every option contradicts itself in some way….this is a very complex problem, we are trying to undo 60 years of error.
