If the U.S. government in the future became tyrannical, abusive, and violated the Bill of Rights and the Constitution, and declared martial law, and began to form a oppressive police state over the American people. There are an estimated 300 million citizens in the United States, not including the illegals and foreigners.
There is an estimated 198 million firearms in the private hands of citizens, and half of the population in America owns at least 1 gun by household. If the U.S. military was sent to take complete control over the cities and to forcefully confiscate the firearms of all citizens, and crush any dissidents and protesters. If the U.S. military and the gun owners of America went to war against each other, who would win?
All of the branches, reserves, national guard, and special forces units of the American military would number around 6 million. All the gun owners of America, which would be around half of our estimated population would be 150 million citizens.

Dear Military members, You are doing a puke poor job of fighting for the United States. The war is based on lies and to tell you the truth you ( That is those who have died ) are dying for nothing. You military men and women can’t even beat a military who is about as powerful as the Flintstone era people. What a pitiful puke poor shame that is. ( Of course the reason you can’t win is because the war in Iraq is wrong ) The best thing you can do is get out of the military and go to college and get a real job. The job of running around with a gun and killing so many innocent people should have stopped back in Vietnam but here it is 2006 and you young people are once again acting like uneducated people. Shame on you young people for going into the military and fighting for all the lies President Bush has told. Shame on you all.

I understand why Georgia is asking for help, but I don’t understand the reasoning behind the United States’ refusal. Thank you for answering.

For example, the idea of a revolution ever happening again in the United States against the powers at be is completely out of the question. It’s not rifles vs. rifles anymore – its rifles vs. the feds with nukes. Should this cause us to reevaluate traditional notions of the political system, democracy and revolution?

2nd amendment: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
It just says Arms. Therefore if all weapons except rifles and non-concealables (the weapons usually used in crimes) were banned, the 2nd amendment wouldn’t be infringed.
Isn’t this like saying people have the right to choose who is on the jury at their trial? Amendment 7:
In Suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise re-examined in any Court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.

In a country as free to bear arms as the United States, has there ever been a recorded incident where street gangs have had access to sniper rifles or bazookas?

I’m an 18 year old guy and a citizen of the United States. I’m really interested in guns but unfortunately never owned one. I’m perfectly sane, so please don’t try to change my mind. I really like an MP-5 but are we allowed to purchase one?

All I know is Switzerland and Ireland; are they any others?
I know they are banned in the UK (thankfully; only the military and the government should have guns)
In late 2007 the European Union lawmakers adopted a legislative report to tighten gun control laws and establish an extensive firearms database. Passed with overwhelming backing, the tough new gun control rules were "hoped to prevent Europe from becoming a gun-friendly culture like the United States".

I’m doing a project on the topic of "Guns or Butter" and I want to give points of reference so people can understand what the United States chooses to do. I was easily able to find the military spending for the US in 2009 but manufacturing is a different story as I cannot find it. Thanks for the help!

I don’t understand what law we’re supposed to base this on. Do we base it on international law? On United States law? On universal moral standards? I don’t get it.

The United States doesn’t need an army, navy, marines, coast guard, etc, etc. It’s just like the 2nd Amendment — these things were implemented by the Founding Fathers over 2 centuries ago! Back then a military and guns were needed, but today we have no need for either.
Think of the money that could be saved — bring home every soldier worldwide! No more Bush wars, Afghanistan wars, etc. The money saved could be used to provide free health care and help us fight global warming.
President Obama is bringing the change that WE THE PEOPLE elected!

Can you believe this? The United States is the most powerful nation on earth but can’t whip an insurgency who has basic weapons. We have every weapon known to man and all they have is a rifle, Pistol, or a basic bomb that any high school kid can make but they are putting the hurt on the USA. How embarassing. Don’t you agree the USA should hang their heads in abject shame?

China’s military is not the strongest, nor is it the largest nuclear weapons, the United States has the greatest external threat of aggression. Since the success of China’s development of nuclear weapons, China has promised not to take the lead in the use of nuclear weapons, until now.

Resolved: It is just for the United States to use military force to prevent the acquisition of nuclear weapons by nations that pose a military threat?
Would you agree or not?
Details, quotes, statistics, logical reasoning, philosophy, values, and resources would be appreciated!
I would love to get more empirical data, and more details, because so far it seems like ranting coming from some people.

It is just for the United States to use military force to prevent the acquisition of nuclear weapons by nations that pose a military threat.
Please help define terms and state your views supported with evidence. Thank you.
