I have the infamous package deal Remington 710 with the synthetic all-weather stock, steel bolt action, Bushnell Sharpshooter 3-9x40mm optics, with a .270 caliber barrel. I had bought a bi-pod for it, a camouflage sling, and the only ammunition I use for it is Federal Premium Boat-tails 130g soft point. I have experience in this weapon. I had shot my first deer between two ribs, through the liver, then the heart and in between two vertebrae of the spinal column between 225 yards away in kneeling position based on what I observed when I cleaned him. ( That may not seem far but it was my first hunt. ) If it isn’t suitable, what do I need to change on it? I am trying to get a good rifle out of my .270 for long distance target shooting.

I just heard a from a friend that there is more technology used to determine the weather and the predict the weather then the military uses to advance their weapons and technology.
I find this hard to believe but am i wrong? Is this really true??

I’m 15 and have never shot a gun before and have been considering the possibility of joining the military in order to pay for college. One military job that would suit me could be a sniper, as I have patiences, coll wits, and think quickly, and have good intuition. I was wondering how I could go about doing some recreational shooting at long distances and, if I show aptitude at it, how I can get some sort of recognition to help a future military career?
Also, please keep any political opinions on the war in Iraq to yourself, I’m not asking weather joining the military is a good idea or not.
Thanks for all the answers, I didn’t want to seem like college tuition was my only motivation, and I’m well aware that a "sniper" is not as what it is portrayed as in pop culture, but from my understanding I thought my attributes would make me an eligible candidate, and If I joined the military it would be beneficial to have at least fired a gun before, and better yet have a basic understanding of marksmanship. Thanks for your answers and sorry for being so unclear!

I own a few gas air soft sniper rifles and I was wondering how much does a gas air soft sniper, on average, vary in FPS from lets say 110 degrees Farenheit to around 0 degrees Farenheit (I play in many places and where I live the weather changes constantly). Thank you in advance and can you please state the FPS variations for both red gas and propane.

Do airsoft sniper rifles have to warm up during colder weather?
I notice my Airsoft sniper rifle (Mauser from cybergun) first 3-4 shots tend to dip a bit. After the 5th shot it hits more accurate. Is this something to do with the weather? During the summer I didn’t seem to have to" warm up the gun" and it hit where I would like it on the first shot. Right now it’s cold from the fall season. Does the oil in gun tend to gell up from the cold or something?
My second question, would motor oil be okay to lube my gun a bit? The bolt area?

Not the one in Full Metal Jacket. The full version that I will add in just a second.
This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.
My rifle, without me, is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will…
My rifle and myself know that what counts in this war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit…
My rifle is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and damage as I will ever guard my legs, my arms, my eyes and my heart against damage. I will keep my rifle clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will…
Before God, I swear this creed. My rifle and myself are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. We
are the saviors of my life.
So be it, until victory is America’s and there is no enemy, but peace!
It has roots outside of the movie, moron. I just dont know where.
