To Veterans, thinking about a career in the military.?
I am a 6’2 210 lb male 16 year old birthday 8/3/90. I have always admired and had tremendous respect for people in the military. I have trouble with endurance and am overweight but I can be extremely determined and can make decisions under pressure. During school testing I scored in the 99th percentile for English, I am also pretty aggressive. I am a great marksman and have a passion for firearms. I messed up during high school and will have to get my G.E.D. Will this hurt my chance for recruitment? My police record is clean other than 1 arrest when I was 14. The charges were dropped because of an illegal search and seizure. I also have a perscription for Adderall (adhd). No serous medical problems but I do see a psychiatrist but I have always been careful what I say to her. Since I know what I say will be documented and effect the rest of my life.
What service would you recommend for me? And do you think anything listed will keep me from being recruited?
Thank you for your time and opinions.

To begin with your not that overweight and if it was Marine boot they would work it off you. The hgih school mess up might be a problem unless you hve already got a GED and then that shows them that you can stick to it. Criminal recods do play a part in your enllistment, but at 14 I am not sure they can gie out that info. The hardest part is the adhd andthe psychiatrist…..that might keep you from getting in. But you know what, I say try it anyway, you can’t catch fish if your line isn’t in the water!

i dont know much about recruiting…but i do know if you go in the military with a GED you have to have atleast 12 college hrs under your belt. My brother has ADD and he’s in the army…he takes his med’s also. so i guess that wasnt a problem for him.

Military service can be great. But before you join ask yourself if your opinions mean more to you than your career advancements. People who tend to go with the flow and do what they’re told without asking questions advance quicker and easier than more opinionated people. The military is good for your career but if your views aren’t already super patriotic then maybe your view of society will take a turn for the worse. Politics plays a very big part in society as it is, in the military it’s multiplied ten fold. I’m speaking as a veteran of the US Navy. It can be fun, but it can be a mistake. If you want to advance your career and have a head start on life in the "real world" then join. But if you want to "give back" or "serve your country" then there are other ways to do it.

you got to have at least a G.E.D.you can get that.the charges that were droped are still on your record, they can waiver that if they want to.you seeing a psychiatrist may hurt your chances.just talk to a recruiter he will help you. good luck.go ahead and start running 2 to 4 miles a day,you will be glad you did.

If you are taking medication for adhd, you are not elligible to enlist in any branch of the service. If you stop taking it and a doctor will write a consult stating that you no longer suffer from it you will be able to get a waiver. The Marines, Army and NG will take GED’s under certain circumsyances ( Dont ever let anyone tell you that the Marines have higher enlistment standars)
If the charges were drop persuant to ANY kind of a deal or agreement, the military still considers it a conviction. However, a criminal charge doesnt necessarily mean you are disqualified. It all depends on the charge

your weight is not a big issue. but now the only branch accepting GED is the army and marines, and there are other additional requirements that must be met. Go talk to a recruiter and they will set you on the right path. http://www.navy.com http://www.army.com http://www.marines.com and the air force is probably completely out of the question.
