the SF has a Mini gun that is mounted atop an M-1151 (humvee uparmored) Flame throwers were outlawed byt the Haque Accords (law of land warfare) not the geneva conventions (Its a common mistake the geneva conventions mainly covers the treatment of civilans and prisoners in a time of war, as well as listing diffrent statu’s for enemy prisoners caught)
good luck getting Sniper school if you join… even if you do its a hard school to pass My teamleader failed out due to an AD (accedental discharge). All privates are trained on basic weapons systems, the M4 carbine, M249 SAW, M240B, as well as AT-4′s, and hand grenades, you get familirzation with the MK-19 (automatic grenade launcher) and the M2 .50 Cal machine gun.
once you get to you unit (in the army as infantry) youll carry either the M240B (7.62mm Machine gun) or the M249 (Squad automatic weapon), team leaders usally have a M4 w/ M203 attachment, and it depends if you Light Mech or Motorised, Crew or Dismount.

GAtlin guns are now the Miniguns (10,000 rounds per minute) and napalm replaced flame throwers. Ain’t technology wonderful?
Ya gotta walk before you can crawl. train with the basic tools of tour trade.

Flame throwers were outlawed by the Geneva convention and can be as dangerous to our guys as to the enemy so they went bye bye. Gatling guns are still used on helos and anti air weapon systems. As too the weapon issue that is most likely you are issued whatever they want you to have that is usually the M-16A2 then you might upgrade to the M-4.

When you go to basic training, everyone is trained on the basic systems. That is why it is called Basic Training. I believe that all branches today to weapons quailification with the M-16A3. After basic training, you move to your military occupational speciality training where you will be trained on the systems that match your specialty. If you are a sniper, you will train on a variety of weapons since each mission may require a different application. If you are an infantry man, you will be trained on all of their systems and so on.
If there is a specific weapon you feel the need to operate, contact your local recruiter. He or she will make sure you have the chance to shoot it.

not sure about flamethrowers but we use the GE minigun instead of traditional gatling guns. and privates are issued the M16A2. To be a sniper first you have to prove you are an expert with the M16.

Gatling guns are now called mini guns or vulcan guns and are now pretty much only mounted on helicopters and planes like the A10 warthog. As a field piece they were pretty much outmoded around world war 1 by stuff like the M2 50 caliber heavy machine gun.
Flamethrowers have pretty much gone the way of the dodo and were taken out of service around 1982. I’m sure any groundpounder out there won’t shed a single tear. They were cumbersome as hell to carry and a soldier with one on his back was begging for death if a stary round hit the pack.
The military also pretty much figured that flamethrowers were no longer necessary as instead of sending men in to infiltrate bunkers they’ll take them out with MOAB and Daisycutter bombs delivered by a plane instead.

M4A1′s are SOCOM weapons, you dont train on them in Basic. M4′s are used in Basic along with M16A2/M16A4.
Flamethrowers were removed from the inventory due to perception of Cruelty, yet are one of the most effective MOUT weapons, By the way they are Legal under the Hague/Geneva Conventions.
Gatling guns are still in use, the GE M134 minigun in 7.62mm NATO, the M167 20mm Vulcan, etc. their now electrically powered rather than hand cranked
