Was the Tommy gun used a lot during WW1? Was it good for military use then? How does it stack up to today’s FAs?

Firearms. How about it’s use in WW2?
ME to! Give me a tommy gun anyday over a M-16. I know the M-16 is the better gun but I like the Tommy gun better.

The Thompson sub-machine gun was developed for WW1, but the war ended before it could reach the battle field.

Great gun. Stable and reliable. It fired the 45 cal. pistol round, so it had a lot of stopping power. It could take a man’s arm off. I am told that the Japanese, German, and Italian soldiers knew the sound of it and feared it.

It was also more difficult to manufacture than the other submachine guns of the time, so there were never enough of them.

It is much heavier than modern assault rifles, and does not have selective fire, It is always full auto. So, I guess the M-16 or Ak-47 is better.

But if there was a Zombie outbreak, I’d want a Thompson.
    I’m a sucker for 1940′s nostaligia.

The Thompson wasn’t produced until 1919, the year AFTER the end of WWI.
